  1. It's not that we don't want it, but personally, I can't afford it!:-) Jim
  2. "check out the other thread on this topic....it got quite warm....." Where was the other thread?
  3. I have to vote for reliableaudiovideo. I just bought a complete reference system from them and had a problem with one of the speakers. They were easy to deal with and offered me options. I was happy with the service and the price. Frankly, I've had more than my fill of audio snob stores. Audio is a personal preference. All you'll learn from most audio sales people is their preference, which has nothing to do with you. Obviously side by side listening has some advantages, but I think it's over-rated. Listen to every system you get a chance to, make up your mind and buy it online. Jim
  4. My new Kenwood 7080 Home Theater system seems to be lacking something with the original R3 setup (RC3, RF3's RS3's, KSW12). I like the sound and I really like the speakers for music, but it was very light on rear movie effects, such as Gandalf leaving the barn in LR2. The Amp has some sort of a virtual rear center channel that can also be used for a sub(?), depending on how you set it up on the Amp. I put it on the "rear" setting and hung a big old Fischer on that output and it seemed to give me a little more kick on rear effects. So, I'm thinking I should put an RC3 back there. I think an RS would also work fine, but can't seem to find them except in pairs. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks! Jim
  5. I just bought an RX3 set that was supposed to come with RF3II's RS3II's and an RC35. The dealer commented that he really didn't like the RC35 and recommended using an RC3II instead, so I went along with him. I love the system! The RC3II is still widely available, so I wonder if that wouldn't be a good replacement for the RC25? Just a thought. Jim
  6. Here's a couple real rookie questions: First, my Kenwood 7080 uses a db scale for volume. It runs from about -48 to +13. At 0db, it's pretty much rockin'! What does this scale mean, if anything, in terms of power output? Second, My new R3 system (2-RF3II's, 2-RS3II's, RC3II and KSW12) was delivered this week, and I've pretty much ignored the breakin period. I haven't knocked any pictures off the wall, but close. How much trouble am I in? (sorry, but I shouldn't have put on Momentary Lapse of Reason...my finger simply ignored my pleas to stop raising the volume!!) (I did post this question in another thread, but I don't think it was relevant to that forum, so I thought I'd try it here) Thanks!

  8. I agree. The thread is ended. Thanks for all the "advice", but more so for the entertainment! By the way, Reliableaudiovideo has offered the afforementioned $100 for me to repair the speaker, awaiting confirmation from their management. When/if that is accomplished, I will be making the "toothpick repair". Thanks again! Jim

Isn't it a little hard to screw the wood screw into epoxy? Do you use a specific kind or brand of epoxy? Do you just fill the hole and then drill it?
  10. What, Gorillas have no special interest groups? Jim
  11. OK, I think I've got a handle on it. My options are: A new speaker, toothpicks, gorilla glue, cotton/glue, or drill the hole to 1/4" and press/glue a 1/4 dowl in the new hole, then drill the dowl. Now I have to decide what it's worth to repair the speaker vs getting a new one. What's the magic number? The RF3II is only a $300 speaker, so I was thinking if they gave me $100 I'd be OK. That would save them the shipping both ways plus the cost of a new speaker. Even the most complicated fix would probably only take me a couple hours, and the toothpick or cotton route only a few minutes, so I'm thinking I'll offer them the option: $100 or a new speaker. Reasonable?
  12. They use a really strange torx head screw, so I'm sort of stuck with the original screws to keep it original. The only thing I could think of was to drill a quarter inch hole, glue in a dowl and drill a new hole in the dowl for the original screw. Any idea how that would work in the MDF material they use fo the cabinet? Jim
  13. I recently purchased a RX3 system (2-RF3II, 2-RS3II, RC-3 and KSW-12). When one of the RF3II's arrived, the upper cone speaker was hanging out of the cabinet. Three of the screws holes in the cabinet were stripped out, and there is slight damage to the black paint on the front of the cabinet. The speaker itself seems undamaged and it does work. I bought the system from Reliableaudiovideo.com, and they have been very helpful, actually far surpassing my expectations. (so far so good!) They are willing to adjust the price if I fix it myself or send me a new one. My question is how to best repair the stripped screw holes if I decide to do it myself. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the replies. I just ordered an R-3II system with the KSW12. I've heard before that I probably won't be happy with the KSW12, but the premium for the RSW was a bit over my budget. I figured I'd give the KSW a try, and with the way Klipsch prices are on Ebay these days, I could probably sell it for more than I paid! I did check the prices at goodguys.com, but they were about $2100 and they didn't have everything in stock. I ended up buying it from Reliableaudiovideo.com for $1679, including shipping. I've heard both good and bad about these guys, but Carlos seemed knowledgable and the price was the best out there. We'll see if they deliver.
  15. I've been looking to buy an R-3 system, so I've been tracking the prices on Ebay and various price comparison sites. Over the past month, the average price on Ebay for 2 RF-3's, an RC-3, 2 RS3's and a KSW 12 would be about $1580. Reliable Audio has a package price of $1495 for: RF3II's RC35 RS3II's KSW12 Are these speakers a good match? What am I missing here?
