  1. I really like it so far, too. I got a free copy of the CD with the tickets I bought for one of the Allstate arena shows in January. I also get a free download of my show. It's the closest thing to pre-Black Album Metallica they have put out. I was hoping this would be a vinyl purchase for me but if it isn't any better than the CD I will spend my money elsewhere. Isn't it ironic that in their attempt to give us loudness, they take away our ability to TURN IT UP?!
  2. This is the key. Everything he touches rocks hard and has a bottom end that punches you right in the gut.
  3. Peaked with the black album? OB, go back a couple of releases and find an entire mountain coming at you. And better yet, get those early releases on the new reissued vinyl. Kill'em all anyone?
  4. I have done this a few times and as recently as last weekend and I have never had this be an issue. Don't wait. Do it. It is so much fun and your guests will be blown away. I haul the Corns and the H2's and the SVS out in the back yard. I show the movie on a 9 X 5 screen that the original owner of the projector was using in his living room. I play music all day. I was shocked to discover that this is where my stuff sounds the best. The Corns really open up and are able to stretch their legs as I fill the neighborhood with some sweet sounds. Add the popcorn machine, and that's what I call backyard movie night.
  5. I am part of the wave. I was never into vinyl before. I went from 8 tracks to cassettes to CD's. I was even resisting now until a friend of mine gave me a very nice turntable. He was doing the going to estate sales thing and grabbing every classic album he could. This did not appeal to me. However, when I made the recording quality connection and was able to see how I might enjoy albums, I was hooked. I still have made a pledge to not try and get every CD I own on viny, but for new stuff, I love it. Also, the artists are getting creative with their releases. Beck released his new one on vinyl and inside there is a code for a download of the album in "high quality" MP3. The download is not just a digital version of the songs, it is a digital recording the vinyl being played. It sounds great and you get the hear the needle hit the record. Very cool. The Black Keys put a copy of the CD in with their latest release on vinyl. Yes, that's right guys, artists producing great music with some great marketing, too. I am willing to pay money for that and would not be satisfied with a crappy burned copy of it from a buddy! Check out Music Direct. Those guys are making some great stuff and are very helpful. If you are in Chicago and can go down to their shop, they have a couple of $1 bins where you will find something you will like. They are also doing the remastering for Warner Brothers on some reissues they are putting out. The Metallica remasters have been outstanding. So, I am hooked and will forever enjoy my vinyl. It's not an either/or decision for vinyl vs. CD's. Every man (or woman) deserves both!
  6. Dump the entertainment center idea. You will be sick of it in 3-5 years, looking to get rid of it, and guess what, your speakers will still be gone.
  7. I got a nice tabletop unit at Costco for $129. I haven't noticed the noise yet, but the light can be a little annoying if showing something on the projector. Also, you have to get the flavacol salt to make it taste like real popcorn.
  8. Just picked up tickets for The Black Keys at the Metro on 7/31 the night before I will see them at Lollapalooza. I guarantee the show at the little Metro will be better than the next night.
  9. Blind Melon-no, the singer is dead. Dokken-maybe, they were technically my first live band ever because they opened for Judas Priest circa 1984.
  10. Who cares? If the masses can support the speaker company we love so that they can remain a viable entity and keep making the products we enjoy, I am all for it. I say put em on every corner. Also, upgradeitus is a real disease. Maybe it will strike and inspire a few of the masses to go up the food chain, or not, but once again, who cares?
  11. Cheers Aurora. Stan Makita's donuts are my favorite. I bet you have never heard that one before. You don't need to do anything to "make" it a better center. They are perfect just as they are. A killer HT system would be 5 Heresy's and a good sub. You will want to stick with the Heresy 1 line for an exact match. I am unsure of the years of production, but it is in here somewhere.
  12. Your only choices in this situation are a third Heresy or an academy in that order. Or, I suppose you could go Cornwall, or maybe a pair of Cornwalls and move the heresy's to the rear and get a third Cornwall, or maybe a pair of K-Horns..........Oh no, I'm doing it again.
  13. I stumbled across this, too. It was awesome. I am now looking forward to the new album in September. It is being produced by Rick Rubin who instructed them to forget they are Metallica with all the hits from over the years and get to work!
