  1. The only place along the front wall that the sub can go is next to the TV on either side. If I move the front speakers closer to the tv than the 95" screen will not be able to be lowered. Is the Ultra2 sub magnetically shielded? I am going to try everything under the sun tonight to see what I can come up with before I start experimenting with front wall placement. I will take a more up to date picture this weekend and post it so you can get a more accurate representation of the current setup.
  2. The problem with the volume knob is that it is disabled once you turn on the thx switch. The light above the volume knob turns red, indicating that the knob does nothing. The volume of the sub is now soley controlled by the THX Ultra2 receiver. I have the sub off to the centre just in front of my cabinet (inbetween my cabinet and left front speaker, probably 2-3' from the left speaker). If I move it to the front inbetween my TV (centre channel) and left front speaker will it sound better? I have attached a very old picture of the room right when I finished construction of the basement. It still shows the RF-35's and b&W sub next to the cabinet. But it gives you the idea of how the area is laid out. The room has a 95" screen that comes down in front of the 51" RPTV when I watch movies. Thanks for the suggestions, I really apreciate the help.
  3. I just installed my new Ultra2 sub/ 1000 amp and I am having a hard time setting it up. My system is as follows: KL-650-THX x3 Front center and Left KS-525-THX Side surrounds SCW-1 inwall back surrounds KW-120-THX sub (one) KA-1000-THX sub amp Pioneer Elite VSX-47-THX Ultra2 reciever I used to have a B&W ASW1000 sub that the ultra2 sub replaced. When that sub was in the system the bass was fantastic and the levels on the sub were barley at 1/4 volume and the receiver set to -10db on the sub level control. I have now set everything up to THX specs letting the receiver handle all volume etc.... levels. I find that I have to have the sub level on the receiver set to +6db to get anything decient and it still is not as room filling as the B&W was. On a positive note: the bass peek level was set to -25db with the B&W before it started to bottom out, and the Ultra sub is set to -5 before bottoming out (at least I hear something different that I am assuming is the sub over exerting itself). Should I setup the sub as if it was not connected to an Ultra2 receiver and do all the adjustments on the amp? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having all the THX standards and settings to hear what the THX people want you to hear accuratly? Should I redo my accoustic calibration with the microphone? ( I am pretty sure it does not dial in the sub). I am very confused and would like some help from people who own the ultra2 subs. Lastly, does this mean I need to buy the second sub too be happy? My room is 1600cubic feet and I beleive one of these subs should be enough to fill the room.
  4. "gibby214" The flat white ceiling accually does not cause any reflection problems at all. I can acually watch a movie with one of the table lamps on and the colors do not wash out (very minutly). The granite color walls help alot with the reflections and darkining of the room. When the lights are off I can barley make out my speakers at the front. I would have loved to do a black ceiling but I was given 2 choices by my wife on colors. If I wanted a black ceiling she would only agree if I had a light pastely color on the wall. If I did white I could do the granite color. I think I chose the right selection. Well my Ultra2 are complete except for the sub and back surrounds. I placed the horns on the inside instead of outside like before and the front sound stage is 20 times better than when I had them on the outside. Now with the centre in place and the surrounds in place the sound is truly out of this world and none directional. It is killing me that I am going to have to wait on the subs for a little while, but my B&W is not having a hard time keeping up too much. The back surrounds unfortunatly will not be changed to ultra2's because they have too be inwalls as shown in my pictures. With the couch against the wall it is the only way too get proper 7.1 imaging without it sounding weird. If I put another set of KS-525's on the back wall they would shoot over your head and not sound like they were behind your head. Also my wife already thinks we have too many speakers in the room that are visible that if I put another visible ste on the wall she would kill me. With the inwalls, once I painted the grills they disapear into the wall. The only thing with the back surrounds is wether too place the horns on the top or the bottom? Currently they are place on the top. It sounds pretty good but I was curious if it was worht turning them upside down to have the horns closer too my head? Anybody have suggestions?
  5. Thank you Bongo4. It took me 1 full year to complete the project and I am quite happy with the results. My back ordered Centre KL-650THX is in so I will be picking it up monday or tuesday. NOw my only big dilema is how too get the ultra2 sub and amp. I have exhausted all funds with the rest of the speakers. The only way I might be able to pull it off is if I down grade my Monster HTS5100 power centre to a basic Panamax DBS-sat wall mount unit with basic filtering. My dealer would give me full money back for my monster centre and that would buy me the ultra2 sub amp. I would then try to sell my B&W ASW1000 sub for about 500-600 and come up with the difference for the ultra2 sub. Do you guys think it is worth giving up my HTS5100 power centre? AM I going to notice a difference in picture and sound without it?
  6. sorry this is a double number 3
  7. These are older photos. They are missing the new 525 rears, blinds for the windows, centre channel stands etc... These are just too give you an idea of how the setup is like.
  8. One more with grills off.
  9. These are very basic renders and are missing a lot of things in the room. Baseboards, crown moldings, windows, french doors, equip cabinet etc....
  10. 26 is too much in that it would be a few inches higher than ear level. My ear level is 32/33" high when I am in a comfortable sitting position in my sweet spot on the couch. If I were to sit staright with proper posture (unrealisitc) than my ear level would be about 35". The center of the horn tweeter is 9" from the bottom of the speaker cabinet. If you take 9 away from 32/33 you get a speaker stand requirement of 23/24". Know the catch is I have a 3 seat couch on the right side wall that has an arm rest that is about 26" high which sits 5-6' away from the front right speaker. Also next to that arm is a 19" high end table with a lamp on top. The right speaker is directly in front of the table by about 3'. Know 22" or higher is over the height of the table so that should not be an issue, except at 26" the lamps shade starts to get in the way of the horn. I borrowed two sets of stands two days ago and did some testing. The first stands were 24" B&W metal stands. The 650" seemed too sound good at that height without improper imaging. I did notice however the sound was very different than the RF-35's that these speakers replaced. I do not know how too describe it but it was a very different sound than I was used too. Yesterday I tried a set of Infinity 21-1/2" stands and they sounded good at that height as well. I do not really know which sounded better but the speakers definatly looked better at that height than any higher. This time my wife and kids and I watched a full movie with this setup and it took me about just halfway through the movie to get use to the difference in sound. Could this be because I have not yet reset my parametric eq with the mic and my eleite 47TX receivers auto setup? Or should I change the right 650 to the left and left to right to have the horns on the inside of the speaker so the horns are not interfered as much with the couch or equipment cabinet on the left wall? Are these speakers suppose to sound this different or am I just hearing things? Also my centre channel is still the RC-35 so I do not know if that is what is effecting the unusually different sound That I am hearing (mixing the 650's with the RC-35). I will be getting the 650 centre in the next couple of weeks as my 3rd 650 was on back order when I picked up the fronts. On a side note: when I repleace my RS-35's with the KS-525's the difference was incredible, a more natural and smooth surround sound than before. I will attach some renders I did of the fronts set on the 22" sanus SF22's with my 95" screen between.
  11. I am curious about which speaker stands owners of the ultra2 line are using. I just purchased the set (- sub, lack of funds) and am having trouble deciding on which stands to go with. I am concerned about the possibility of the KL-650's toppling onto my 2 year old or 3 month old if they get to close to the speakers. The only stand with a wide base plate is the steel foundations line from Sanus. THe base is 15x12 which matches nicely with the footprint of the 650's. The topplate is not a concern because I have a friend manufacturing a 12x8 top plate that has a back bracket that will match up with the omnimount hole locations on the back of the speakers which I will bolt the top plate too. Also these stands seem good but they only come in 22", 26", 30" and 34" high. After calculating ear height and sofa arms/ lamps in the way of sound travel I need a stand that is 24" high or 23.5/23 high. Is it safe to buy the 26" set and have them cut down to the size I need? Is 22" too low because it is 3" below my ear level and the sofa arm cuts into the sound zone by about 2"? I really am confused and would like too make a decision soon because I really want to get the system calibrating so I can start enjoying my new toys. Any pictures of peoples front three setup would be appriciated as well.
  12. Thanks for the advice guys. I think I will go with the 650's for sure (I had the same worry of the 525's lacking). After all I will be going from the RF35's to the 650's. THe 35's to the 525's I think would be too drastict a change in mid's. The subwoofer is going to have to be last simply because of the amplifier having to be purchased seperatly for a heafty price. The sub itself is not a big deal because selling my b&w will nock down the price of the 120 sub by more than half. My new surrounds have arrived yesterday but I will not be able to pick them up untill monday or tuesday (I can't wait). I think I will be able to replace the center by the end of the month or the first couple of weeks of June. The front mains will have to wait untill about end of july or middle of august unless I get some more side work (computer jobs) that I occasionally get before then. THanks for all of the suggestions, I will keep you posted on my progress and how the changes sound in comparison to the 35 series.
  13. Let me step in for a second and make an observation. The 3000 sq.ft quote is incorrect. The correct number is as follows: THX Ultra2 - 3000 cubic/ft and up (volume) TXH Select - 3000 cubic/ft and lower (volume) My room is 18dx12wx7.8h which = 1684 cubic ft of volume and 216 sq.ft of floor space. I demo'd the Ultra2 speakers at a local dealer in a dedicated room that was roughly 16wx26dx8h which = 3328 cubic/ft and 416 sq.ft. The speakers were connected to a 2007 aragon amp and stage1 pre-pro. The sound was out of this world and I swear brought a tear to my eye. I am now on a quest to upgrade my Reference 35 series setup to the ultra2 setup. My new ultra2 KS-525 rears should be in by tommorrow (I can't wait). I think I will be able to upgrade the front 3 by at least november (funds permitting). My only delema is the sub and which fronts to go with. Klipsch recommends that in a smaller room you use the KL-525's for the fronts instead of the 650's. So I am not sure which ones to go with. The sub requires the amp be purchased seperatly and that more than doubles the price of the sub, so I think I will not be able to upgrade the sub till next year. I just hope my B&W asw 1000 can keep up with the ultra2's. I hope the above info helps clear up any confusion in this forum as I did a lot of research and phone calls to figure this stuff out.
  14. I am thinking of upgrading my RS-35's for the THX ultra2 KS-525-THX line. Would this be a good idea, and would they mate well with my RF-35 and RC-35? I just want a little better surround then I am currently getting from my RS-35's.
  15. TheEAR Do you think I should go for the RW-12 then. What about saving up for the RWS-12? I really like the way the RW-12 looks with my system as well (considering it is from the same series speaker). I was also thinking about eventually getting a second RW-12 if I go with it. In the basement on concrete I think the extra 12 would help.
  16. I have the following: RB-25 RC-35 RS-35 B&W ASW1000 12" SUB I was thinking of upgrading my sub to the RW-12 to match the rest of my speakers. I brought home the RW-12 to demo against my B&W ASW1000. Well I find the RW-12 to be more tight and cleaner then the B&W but their is a problem. My current setup is as follows. My Elite 47TX is set to 80HZ crossover, the channel level of the sub is set to -10 (the lowest setting) and the sub is set to 1.5 volume gain (out of ten). With these settings I get good low bass that rattles everything in the room and hits very low. When I substitute the RW-12 I have to set the volume on the sub to 3/4 total power and the channel level on the receiver is set to +3. Also with the RW-12 the bass peak level is set to +1 where as the B&W is -25. My concern is does this mean the RW-12 is not as efficient as the B&W. The klipsch gives cleaner bass then the B&W but with the settings it has to be set at their is not much room for adjustment if I move the theater into a different (Larger) room. What should I do? Should I upgrade or stick with the B&W?
  17. I had checked the brass binding post as well and they are fine. I might also consider getting a 47TX since they are going to be discontinued soon. Would the 130w/channel be too much power for my speakers? RB-25 rated at 75w RC-25 rated at 125w RS-25 rated at 75w SCW-1 rated at 50w Also no one has any info regarding using the inegra line with klipsch reference instead of the pioneer as for as sound quality for music/movies goes.
  18. bruinsrme, Could you tell me what the MCACC settings are for your center channel. Who knows maybe the settings you are using might be what I need or need to start with.
