I don't think Klipsch needs a spin off company, but something like "The Klipsch Custom Shop" would be a good idea. Since Heritage are basically special order items anyway -- just announce them as such. The Klipsch Home Page should always have a picture of a Klipschorn, Belle, or LaScala on it. The page should be redesigned with more pictures highlighting the different lines. People love pictures. Currently, Heritage is all but invisible, and you know what they say -- "Out of sight, out of mind". I think it's the kiss of death from a marketing perspective. The more exposure the better. Klipsch needs to increase sales volume to support future projects. If they can't do it with Reference or Heritage, they should do it with Synergy. Klipsch should start by offering Synergy in a variety of vinyl finishes. Some people like black, but not eveyone -- I sure don't. There is nothing worse than trying to make your black box stand out when it's sitting with all the other black boxes. A speaker that looks good, sounds better. I'm telling you, the average consumer walks into Best Buy, sees all that crap, and just says -- "Where's the Bose?" A little bit of advertising wouldn't hurt either. I would actually stay away from the audio and video magazines, and I think Klipsch should seriously consider advertising in Newsweek, Time, and some of the other weekly magazines. One good paragraph, with carefully chosen verbiage, devoid of hype, and some premium photography -- would pay huge dividends. I think you can be aggressive without being obnoxious. Maybe Paul Klipsch didn't want as much of the market as JBL, or present day Bose, and certainly cared more about putting out a quality product. OTOH, I don't think PK wanted Klipsch going back to working out of that shack he started in either. At any rate, we, the "Elite" Klipschters sure are noble aren't we? We be the diehards. We bleed Klipsch. With that in mind, let me ask you something: When was the last time you bought a new set of Heritage from Klipsch instead of eBay? ---------------- 73' vert CWs, 75'Horz CW's, 73' Heresy,......and in 93' new Heresy 2's.....What is left? They are particularly impressed with the La Scalas. They *claim* that their 2 watt amp played "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (AKA Theme to 2001: A Space Odyssey) to thrilling levels. Only someone delusional would make his first choice for playing an extremely dynamic symphonic work a 2-watter. Gimme a break. I don't doubt that these hi-fi dudes were so thrilled to hear a truly high-efficiency speaker that they lost their objectivity for a while and figured they could do anything now with low watt amps. They let their enthusiasm cloud their judgment about what they were hearing, that's all. Jazman, if you would be so good, please explain to me how a 2-watt amp could give the listener drawn in that ad the benefit of 115db peaks. ---------------- Thank you Paul. tc

The CW will not get you evicted any faster that a Heresy. Been there. Two CWs, small complex. Tenants were dancing in the parking lot just before I was evicted. You Klipsch guys oughta be buying the pro-sound and motion picture theater speakers, like the Altec and JBL guys have always done. Those are the only products Klipsch is now making of interest to a fanatical horny. I imagine one of those theater speakers with the double 15 bassbin and large-format driver on the big tractrix horn would sound very good. ---------------- You'll never see a home Jubilee........ T, you got that right. I feel that the memory, the efforts and design of PWK are being flushed. That pisses me off, but I will continue to view this BB because of it's members. (although some of us might be dropped due to our comments) The King is dead....Long live the King....and for the love of money (and quick turnover) To repeat myself.....IndyKlipsch, consider changing the name of the company... Must be bastards or mods.....If they are PWK's, they could be very rare....$$$$$ Years ago, I entered a bar in Little Rock AR. where eight CW's were bolted to the ceiling, (MeggaSlam) but I have never known of commercial CW's. 8. D**n Smilin, Why don't you say what you think? ..... maybe thats what we all think!!!!!! The balls and the brains are in the grave. tc
  9. Thank you Ear. The image of new Klipsch is becoming "mass-market". Make all the money that you can in the consumer products at Best Buy. No one has a problem with that. The low end lines should generate enough margin to produce a small quanity of "what the company was built on". Every company needs a Flagship. It is not a loss-leader. It is the thing that low $ buyers strive for. If Paul Klipsch designs are not available....maybe the company name should be changed. tc

Klipsch should not abandon their best stuff just because it poses certain problems. Overcome the problems! ---------------- Tom, Ham,Kev,and Paul, All of you have hit the nail on it's head. Do the IndyKlipsch crew think that people were lined up at PWK's door to buy a Khorn 50 odd years ago? it's not just about money boys....It is about him and the design, Paul's final "gift"..... 13. I have made a few "direct" statements in other threads in an attempt to bait the IndyKlipsch crew into a statement. PWKs last contribution is lost to fast turnover. Its all about ****ing money. Not about the difficulty in building the wood horn. If they won't build it, give us the bass bin on auto-cad and we will build it ourselves! Paul must be rolling over. At a typical listening distance of 10' that will be about 10dB short of what a symphony is mid-hall. Richard Heyser measured the Klipschorn at 101dB in the 1989 review, this was referenced to 8 ohms, and the speaker clearly drops below this in the range where music has the most acoustic power. 1.5W is 1.76dB higher than 1W, add 3dB for the second speaker = 105.76dB at 1M peak output for the pair. 10' subracts 9.67dB. Average orchestral music can hit 105dB mid-hall. This does not sound very loud at all because of the very high peak-to-average ratio in this kind of music, on the order of 20dB or more. I like 'BIG' stuff like Copeland, Berliotz, Stravinsky, etc. It gets louder. A friend of mine has some 107dB speakers I built for him. Most of the time he listens at less than 100mW. On a couple of Sheffield Lab direct disc recordings his +22dBW amplifer comes up way short of making the drums sound 'real'. Most recordings sound so flawed you cannot listen to 1W. ---------------- Well Yah...... Tube-ie sounding Lux M-117 in BTL at 440wpc makes the drums sound sort of "real" into four CWs. But still looking for the Tube Top and SS Bottom. tc

The results you will get using a cw tone will be meaningless! If you use a simple meter, you need a warble tone or a set of 1/3 rd octave filters and a noise gnerator! It is not uncommon to see as much as +-20 dB variation. The best you can expect of a speaker is +-5 dB using a swept warble tone. If you look at the response curve of my modified Belles that I have posted on my "stereo stuff" below, you'll see what I mean. The curve was made with a swept warble tone, a log amp and an x-y recorder. A lot of that quipment was home-made. Al K. ---------------- I agree with John and Al. The Rat Shack SPL is fun at the Spring National Drag Race, but not much use in the sound room. TC

  22. Ear, Colin, & 101, Considering the collective number of posts from you guys, I am surprised by your comments. I believe that most of us have driven our wives and families to violence due to the Looks of our audio obsession. Looks are nice. Do we really give a S*** about Looks compaired to Sound? If so, I will sell my audio and buy myself a nice little oil painting to look at. Ok, I did go from decorators to walnut. Jim's statement does not surprise me in the least. He owned CWs before Klipschorns and I bet he missed the CW slam. Some of us are willing to trade that wonderful smooth Khorn sound for the "in your face" explosive "boot in the chest" sound of that the ugly Cornwall box. ( I guess four CWs stacked is twice as ugly) I have owned all of the Heritage line except for Belle. IMHO, in a good room, two channel, I would match four Cornpones (tweaks & all) against any two cornerhorns and knock your sox off. Regards, Terry
