No, the receiver does not have to be True HD capable. All you need is enough external inputs to accept the analog 5.1/7.1 hand-off from the BD player (if it has them). I also have an earlier generation PS3, but the fan on it sounds like a jet engine during movies so I was glad to find an alternate BD player as well. My understanding is that the first generation PS3s could decode the TrueHD/MasterHD formats with the firmware upgrade, but I could be mistaken and it's only the newest generation. Can anyone confirm?

I can hear a difference, and so can my wife, which is meaningful as she often doesn't hear other differences. I didn't want to upgrade my AVR, so I got a Pioneer BDP-320 player with 7.1 analog outputs. You can get it now for less than $200 (easily) - why not give it a try?

I think you've tripped to this, but since you're using analog exterior inputs on your Denon, all the processing is taking place in the BD player so you need to make all your settings there. I have a similar setup, feeding analog in from my BD player to a Denon. It absolutely kicks ***, especially on HD audio streams.

Get a sub. You can find them used in many places. I have Forte's, love the bass, but not enough to handle the really low stuff in movies AND music. I am now using an SVS 20-39 (tuned to 20hz) and had also used a Velodyne HGS-15(?). Both really round out the bottom end.

Spider - Speaker matching refers to matching the timbre of the speakers, not the impedance. The KV-3 is a good timbre match to the KG-4. I've used that combination and it worked fine. A KV-2 would also work, but the KV-3 is better.

I think it's something you really just need to try out and see if you notice a difference. If you can do it with no risk (e.g. able to return), why not? I was driving my Forte's with a Denon AVR that did about 100wpc in 2-channel mode. It sounded great. Then I put an Acurus 200x3 in to drive them (which bench tests at about 325wpc IIRC) and they indeed did "come alive." Everything, especially the bass, was just more authoritative.

That's a question better left unasked unless you're willing to spend the rest of your life trolling garage sales and internet forums. What started with a pair of KG4s has, for me, now grown to a collection of 8 pairs of Klipsch speakers - all built before 1990. Each is terrific in its own right. For the time being, just enjoy the ones you have.

Great post! Thanks for sharing your thoughts/emotions. My first pair were KG4's, bought brand new in the mid-80's. I still have them. They are terrific - was using them with my 35wpc Fisher tube integrated amp until a year ago. Enjoy!

I believe you are correct - the MSDS for it says the following: The following materials are non-hazardous, but are among the top five components in this product. Raw Linseed Oil 8001-26-1 Resin Solution NOT AVAILABLE Hydrocarbon Resin 152698-66-3 The MSDS also lists mineral spirits as being present. They do look nice, for sure. I use Watco Rejuventating Oil (from Home Depot) - apply a few coats with a vigorous rubdown inbetween.

Since I'm over 50, and can only hear up to about 15k, who can describe this noise? I'd like to know what I'm missing.

Having a tall glass of bourbon and waiting until tomorrow to call Klipsch is the right way to go. I, too, bought an open-box CS700 from BB and it was complete - we checked the items against the list of items in the owner's manual before I left the store (well, it didn't have the pair of white cotton gloves but I got over that for the price I paid for it). Hooked it up and found a problem with the Unit Code switch on the woofer module, plus it buzzed when operating, and Klipsch replaced it right away under warranty.

Nice score! Far less than I paid for all those items myself! I think you'll like them over the KLF's....

Search the forums at www.avsforum.com and see what "they" have to say about those models. There are probably 1000's of posts, but you can get a sense of them by reading just a few pages' worth...

In the same boat as you. I opted to get a Pioneer BDP-320 - about $220 - rather than buy a new preamp at this time, plus I wanted to get something quieter than my PS3 whose fan noise is rather distracting. The 320 fit the bill for me. I don't need Netflix/Amazon/Blockbuster streaming (got the Tivo HD for that) and I have a total of 5 SACD's so I was not willing to spend the $500 on an OPPO. It's probably just my imagination but the HD audio sounds outstanding, and it seems to me it does a better job with Bluray discs than the PS3 does.
