  1. Who the hell is Mike? I just pulled that pic off the internet somewhere...heck, I can't even remember where I found it!
  2. I know, but you were going to remove the link sooner or later, so I just figured by changing my signature -- you wouldn't feel bound to leave it. I don't think I can really do the rule of thirds (I am familiar with it). Though the wall behind me is some ways back, there is a king sized bed a foot or two behind my listening chair.
  3. I know this has come up before, but can't find the thread. Bob Gassel even jumped in with some numbers. Does anyone remember the formula for this? It has to do with the total area of the ports in relation to the wall behind them.
  4. Actually, I slam Forrest and Ranger all the time. I'm still waiting for an audio related post from either of them. Forrest is a Fascist, and likes to call some of us fools, dimwits, and *******. Ranger just wants to see lots of dead people, and will probably be in the thick of it here soon enough. But Prodj101, you -- are simply foul. Seriously, you all need to chill out a little. I'm glad for all the varying points of view, and though I don't agree with bombing Iraq back to the stone age, I do agree that he needs to go. It's just that before we send people like Ranger over -- we need to make sure we got every angle covered. It is not a part of the world you want to screw up in. Anyone know the history of the 'Fez'?
  5. Hmmm. I'm certainly interested in tapping into 25 years of experience dealing with room acoustics. Of course, I don't have K-horns -- just the pitiful excuse for a horn RF-7. So, since you are done with these guys for a while, how about a professional opinion on my setup? The sub is now gone, as well as most of the equipment in the rack. I'm now using SET and a 6SN7 based preamp. The speakers and rack are in the same place. The rear wall is about 15 feet behind my chair. Thanks, uhg. Picture is in my next post -- I couldn't get it to attach to this one.
  6. "if any of you Klipschies want to bring some KHorns or other "real" Klipsches..." What the hell is that all about about? You don't think RF7's and SET from 8 feet away can be musical? Bigot:)
  7. Nice Post Ed -- very well thought out. However, I feel compelled to challenge you to a game of tic-tac-toe.
  8. Hoping for the best -- preparing for the worst. It would be nice to be pleased.
  9. This is what your Dynacos will look like when you get them:)
  10. For all intents and purposes, the Klipsch Reference cones are "ceramic". Read the Infinity White Paper on C.M.M.D. technology. http://www.infinityspeakers.com/home_audio/technology.asp As far as the RB5's go -- I consider them to be some of the best sounding speakers I've ever heard. Good bite and grip, without overwhelming you. You also get the smooth response of a two way -- which is hard to beat.
  11. "Take any given amount of money, and put it into 2 channel instead of multichannel -- and the increase in quality of sound is considerable." Of course, I'm speaking in context of what the average person is most likely to be able to afford, say $10,000 or so. Take that amount and build a multichannel system -- then give me the same amount of money, and I'll build my two channel system.
  12. Kelly, those amps that you listed...are not really designed for the masses. Yes, any of those amps will probably sound better than the great majority of solid state receivers of the middle 70's and forward. I was really thinking about the two channel receivers that had huge transformers, and were chock full of discrete components. At whatever point in time IC's were incorporated into these things -- is pretty much when the downhill trend began. The spec frenzy can be tied to this same time period -- probably 1975 -1977. My point about HT, had to do with taking a given set of dollars, and making it stretch to cover more than twice the amount of speakers, twice the amount of amps, and a sub. "Average" consumers are not going to spend $10,000, or even $5000 on a HT system. To get all of this "stuff" at a price they can afford -- there has to be some serious compromises in quality. Take any given amount of money, and put it into 2 channel instead of multichannel -- and the increase in quality of sound is considerable.
  13. Yeah, you need the work the problem -- she loves you man!!
  14. I'll tell you what happend: "Video Killed the Radio Star". How do you cram 5 amps in a box and sell it for a price the average person is willing to spend? To do multichannel MY WAY -- I would have to mortgage the house and sell off my firstborn. So, you got this general problem, and it goes like this: "Hey Dean, I want to do HT -- what should I buy?" "How much you going to spend?" "About a grand." "So, you want 5 speakers, a sub, a DVD player, a receiver with 5 amps, and a built in processor -- for a $1000?" "Yeah, I can do that right?" "Sure, but take that same $1000 and put it into 2 speakers, DVD player, and a 2 channel integrated amp -- and it will crush your multichannel setup in every category." "No way dude!" "Yeah, it will." "Man, I gotta have 5 speakers and a sub!" "Well, go to Circuit City and buy KLH."
  15. Well, we'd all like to get back what we put in -- but it don't work that way. The general rule of thumb for near mint, used speakers -- is 40% off the retail price. This is the standard at both AudiogoN and eBay. So, basically $1100. There are some RF7's for sale right now on the forum for about the same price -- and they retail for $2200. There is also an ENTIRE KLF home theatre setup for $1800.
  16. Well, you did tell her about the door. Bless her heart -- but she should have paid closer attention. Why don't you let her see what she has in mind. Women have this uncanny ability to factor in abstract variables. Hell, you might end up liking it better than the door. If is doesn't work out -- you can always put the door in later. How big is the opening? Can you make an archway out of it?
  17. I think I'm going to have alot more to say after I strap it to the Heresies. The Scott isn't going to sitting with the RF7's, and I mainly did it just so I could get a good baseline by comparing it to the Apollos, and to what I remembered about the SuperAmp DJH. I heard what I was desperately hoping for -- warm and rich, cause them Heresies are going to need it. I'm building a "system" -- and that's what I really want to write about. Most here are Heritage owners -- and I have a feeling that this thing is perfectly suited for the obnoxious, shrill, overbearing squawker
  18. Is is starting to look like that most vintage stuff has it all over the new stuff. Better build quality, discrete components (instead of ICs), etc. We forget the trend to cut corners and keep down manufacturing costs. Now we now have 7 channel receivers that don't weigh any more than a toaster. It's funny, you pick up an old HK for $100 -- that if you built one that way now -- would probably cost you out the wazoo.
  19. Hey man, I just got to do my part, or you'll where out your new soldering iron -- and then what the hell are you going to do!!
  20. Yes, someone will get a great deal. but your'e a turkey cause you won't answer my questions. You sure don't have to worry about being flamed for deciding you didn't like them -- everyone here will certainly respect you right not to like them, and your opinions sure ain't going to change my mind about them. See what you did now...you still have to answer the other questions, and now you have to tell us what direction you are going in as well:)
  21. Gee, I wrote a great post with cool links -- but since you are finished...

  23. I'm getting some Heresies next week. If I hate them, I will sell them. I would then be tempted to look into your RF7's. If I like the Heresies, I might start saving for some Cornwalls or K-horns. At any rate, I'm sure to post an opinion by Friday. It is difficult for me to imagine someone actually wanting to sell those. What's "wrong"? What are you driving them with?
