  1. I started a new thread only because the last one sort of got me nowhere... i am in Australia and its availability that had me looking at that particular cap... it reviewed well. I am certainly asking for suggestions and recommendations for other caps.. What are the ones you are thinking of?
  2. The budget is less of a concern, i really just want to get them up and running for now so that i have reference point to work from. I may upgrade the crossover and tweeters down the track. i suppose the best value for money at this point
  3. i have just purchased a pair of 1972 corner horns and i am stoked! Been dreaming of these all my life and lucky enough to purchase as a"barn find'!!!! Will be married with my Dynaco mark 3s and Audio Research Pre Amp However the crossovers (type AA) are in need of attention. Firstly I need to recap....Has anyone used the obbligato capacitors in their crossover in either oil cap or premium film? Which would be better suited? i need 2uf they don't make it from what I can see so should i opt for the 2.2 or get two of the 1uf? Also need 13uf. Whats better a 12uf or two x 6.8uf? These are from DIY HIFI Supply Sure there will be many more questions on this journey and look forward to your ideas and expertise.
  4. Hi thanks for all your replies. is there any particular caps i should be looking at. Suggestions on the best way to make up 13 mfd would be helpful. and 2mfd. I'm having trouble finding anything. i just want to know what brand and values. At this point i only have the old crossover with dried caps so no reference point. i just got the horns last week. At the moment i am using my DYNACO mk 3s

  7. just got a pair of 1972 corner horns in all original state. Have played them and they sound bad. i can't hear the twitters. THE crossover is 45years old so i will need an up grade or recap. Any suggestions? What do you suggest for tweeter upgrades?

For improved bass response it would be advisable to replace the existing K-43E's in there with K-33E's ($129 apiece) from Klipsch parts. You can sell the K-43E's to someone here on the forum to recoup the cost of buying the K-33E's or sell them on eBay if you get no takers here. Price range is very dependent on cosmetic and operational condition the range would run from $500 - $1250 for the pair. The industrial models just aren't as attractive the beautiful bare wood versions in a home decor. ---------------- Thanks Frzninvt, what crossover would I expect to find in an 85 LSI model as the back is closed Do you recommend taking the back off before purchasing to inspect their true contents!!? Cosmetically they appear in fair to good condition, but I suspect that they may have been used for band purposes, could this effect their sound if using them for home hi fi as I'll be running them on Dynaco mk IIIs in triode mode?
  9. I'm considering purchasing a pair of LSIs for home use. They're an 85 model. Can anyone tell me roughly what they're worth these days and how they compare with the 'home' model in terms of both sound and price?
