  1. Don't hurt yourselves with all this high technology!
  2. No, but the Briggs and Straten Snow-Blower patent, THAT'S a concern! DM
  3. Nah, this one is a table-saw variety. Piece of cake. Policies concerning the use of the "device" are subject to State and Local jurisdictions however, Federal law requires that the following warning label be attached to each said device: Warning: This loudspeaker is intended for musical purposes only. Using this loudspeaker for any other purpose, including any the following is strictly prohibited: a) removal of paint, plaster, wallpaper or other interior finishing products blowing or the removal of yard debris, barbeques, or outside lawn furniture c) aiming at windows, pets, or people without proper FAA approved hearing protection d) drying hair, clothing, rugs or carpets e) demolishing of existing abodes, establishments, or domiciles Any use other than musical use shall constitute voiding of the warrantee, which ain't much anyway. DM
  4. Bruce! Suprizingly provocative and naughty of you! Anyway, speakers won't EVER tell you to take out the garbage! And as we all know (spanking aside), we (men) will actually LISTEN to speakers!!! HA! Man - I kill me! Dana
  5. Get ready to say hello to the Jubilee's evil-twin brother on steroids (or crack)! Oh, what the heck - steroids AND crack! DM
  6. Launched #4 off today. Will post pics later. DM
  7. Hey, that's funny! My MC300's meters are incremented at divisions of 3, instead of 1 like yours, so I tend to listen to mine peaking at 0.3 watts! It's the psychological aspect of what the meters say and how it effects our listening that that I think is funny! Or odd, at least. DM
  8. Yes, you do. Speakerlab didn't make those - those are actually EV under the label. However, what you really "want" is the T-350's shown above. DM
  9. As I said previously, add to that the possibility of the frame reflection at 200-250 and there you go! Attached is an example. It is a far different matter when listening to music. You will never hear the dips in reality - or perhaps better stated as - you will never recognize the dips as being there! To take it a step further, a totally flat response would probably be "boring" - technically correct, but dissatisfying. I think PWK was right with "dirty curves". They give "life" to the performance. As to altering it in the Jubilee, add some absorptive material to the back chamber behind the driver to suppress reflections from coming back through the cone. Add some fibrous absorptive material to the bottom of the back chamber to suppress standing waves from developing between the top and bottom (the height of the enclosure) being the only parallel walls in the enclosure (from submultiples of frequency wavelength that would fit between the two parallel surfaces). Lastly add "wings" to the outside of the mouth channels, ala "Little Bast@rd" to lessen difractive effects and slightly increase your LF response. DM
  10. Number 4 is done! I'll post drawings here when I send it off... Hint: think major "spank" (or is it "severe beating"?) dual 15's! ...or 4-12's, or 6-10's (or any other combinations you can think of)! DM
  11. The thing drops like a rock below 60Hz! Am I missing something here? Other than that, yes, quite impressive the rest of the way up. Brings up a problem, this type of speaker cannot be effectively measured outside of a room corner, and therefore, everyone ends up literally testing the room with the enclosure in it. A nasty little thing... Add to that where, exactly, does one measure it from. Most use 3 meters and "adjust" from there. It ain't the same if you don't actually SIT and LISTEN at exactly 3 meters... DM
  12. Exactly. It presents an insurmountable problem by its existance. Many $$$ of research have gone into the basket! (ha!). Just look at any curves supplied by the manufacturer. The flatter the response, the more the driver costs, and you can bet its not a stamped frame! Bass reflex applications tend to cover it up as both sides of the cone are used. A front-loaded horn (infinite baffle) won't, and neither will most "accepted" manufacturers testing methodologies (again an infinite baffle of exceptional size). DM
  13. My opinion is that that 200Hz dip is a consequence of the driver FRAME, believe it or not. It is not likely that the horn itself has any detrimental behavior at 200Hz, and this also assumes that it isn't exagerated by room "suckout". It could also be a reflection from the back chamber in addition to the frame, however, if you look at any speaker specs, they ALWAYS show a dip in the response, and THIS is from the frame reflection(s). See any Eminence speaker for an example... DM
  14. Roy, unfortunately no. Wish I did (or NOT, depending)! Sometimes, ignorance really is bliss! DM
  15. Ok, those of you who are so inclined, like myself - Commence Soiling! ;-) Needs a name - any ideas welcome! DM
  16. Here's the new one (I appologize for the poor jpeg quality, it looses alot in conversion)... PG 1 of 4. DM
  17. You mean you wouldn't be HONORED if I actually showed up?! SHOCKING! DM
  18. I understand about the drivers. The SL woofer (W1508S) ain't too shabby, and the top end is most likely an EV T-35 or a T-350 if you're lucky (the SL "Super-K" model) along with the traditional Atlas mid. Crossover is your basic "horrible". Wonder about the mid horn - it was a metal casting with "Speakerlab" cast in large letters along the axis. DM
  19. There it is! That's what I was looking for! Why don't you guys come up here instead? I could afford that! DM
  20. DM I'm not sure what your point is here as far as: I didn't hear a resounding "yes"... it's not quite convincing? Just to make my personel opinion clear for you. The Jubilee I bought (this includes the K402/K69A also) is not just a lateral shift or just a different sound to me. It was a clear and meaningfull improvement in Sound Reproduction over my KHorns! and it was important enough to me to make every effort to obtain the Jubilee since Life is short and I wanted to enjoy them while I can. What I wouldn't do is be irresponseable enough to talk someone else into them when they say they really like what they have now. mike tn Mike, granted. However, having and sharing an opinion, is NOT irresponsible. Why won't anyone answer the question: Does the Jubilee "Kick" or not? Yes or no. Dana
  21. I didn't hear a resounding "yes"... it's not quite convincing? Brings up another point about things in general, once they get so good, or the performance is at such a level, there are only differences, not a complete re-ordering of the universe! It's not that one totally eclipses the other, rather it's a lateral shift, more akin to personal preference than a striking difference in performance. DM
  22. I've talked to Mike in Tenn. I have an eclectic mix. No techno or rap, though, which I find to be monotonous, boring and generally too horrible to allow on my system! I listen to orchestral, jazz, rock, etc. No one particular type, but "good" recordings definitely preferred. The Khorn's have very good bass, I think. Take a Khorn bass bin, change the driver so it can kick when needed, enlarge the slot to full throat size, make it fold in a single plane, and swap the top cabinet entirely with a single horn and direct it as needed to create a soundstage, cross it over at 600Hz, and that's pretty much what I'm used to listening to. What or where I think the Khorn lacks is a feeling of "solidity" in the bass. I think this is the K33E driver. However, it is very "transparent" sounding, too. I've found that you tend to give up the "transparency" when you go for the "solidity". It's definitely a trade-off. But I'll take the "flashy" dynamics and punch over the extreme lows. It's more realistic and therefore more exciting and fun to listen to. DM
