  1. Thank you for the information. Do any of you like a particular audio (and maybe video) magazine? You said that bass management was not sending bass to your speakers which would mean sending it to the sub, I'm guessing. In order to do that, do you simply make the adjustment on your receiver? For example, I have the Yamaha 5560 receiver and have a setting in the menu to send the bass signal to the mains, the sub or both. I would guess that while this is one adjustment you can make, there must be many more. My receiver may also limit me to some degree. Thanks again for the reply.
  2. Ear, in light of your earlier post, I am guessing that you don't have any pics of your setup(s), but if you do, I would love to see it! David
  3. The warranty is not transferable. (I checked w/Klipsch)
  4. I joined the forum a couple of weeks ago and have been constantly amazed at the level of overall knowledge on this board. What would you recommend for regular reading, resource materials and just general ways for someone at the beginning stages of this hobby to learn more about it?
  5. I am trying to feed the audio/video through my receiver so that I can listen to the digital tv through my speakers. That is what has been confusing me. I could get an the audio to output to the speakers, but not the video to the television. "You must connect the audio to the tv as well. The red and white jacks." I am a newbie, but not a dummy! lol thanks for the help... David

    Def Leopard

This really should get posted in another forum-not yet created-called, "Are you jealous yet? Hmm are you? Are you?" That would be an unbelievable experience. Backstage even, eh? (yes, I am from michigan...) Was it a total party, or more laid back now that they are older? I saw them in concert when I was in high school just for the Hysteria tour. There wasn't a bad song played all night, and it was probably the best concert I have seen. David
  7. Ya know, that may be the problem. I am running an rca input to the television from the cable box and an s-video line to the television. I do have another line out on the receiver though, which is also running to the television. That one is an rca that is connected to the line 1 input on the television. I will try this out tonight and let you know... Thanks for the help, guys. David
  8. I agree w/the last post. I just purchased the reference system myself (7's) and have absolutely loved them. When I was shopping around for them (I have been looking for the past few years, more seriously the past few months) I compared most closely to the definitive technology line. I was looking at their upper speaker, I don't recall the model number, but physically it stands about 8" or so above the RF-7's. My conclusions are following, but you need to determine what type of music you will be listening to and any other applications-home theater, etc. I found the deftechs to be a wonderful speaker. I found them superior to the klipsch system when listening to vocals, especially in two channel listening, where their design allows the speaker to fill the room with music. Very nice sound. On to rock/country... In these two categories (my wife is the country buff, but I do like shania...lol) I found the klipsch system was able to recreate the "feeling" of being at the live event. The sound was better than that of the deftechs by a larger margin than the deftechs sounded better than the klipsh in terms of vocals. On to home theater... I listened to the scene(s) from The Matrix where neo and trinity enter the lobby and get into the gun battle with the police force. There is another scene right after this where they place a bomb in the elevator which is also good. Anyway, I listened to the dvd on the klipsch system first. I found that the louder the volume, the better the sound and the overall experience of watching the movie. I listened to the scene from beginning to end (the tremendous explosion) with a huge perma-grin on my face. Rewind scene, enter deftechs. I will tell you that I did not even listen 1/3 of the way through the lobby scene-the difference was staggering. Explosions, gunfire (that actually sounded like real gunfire), voices etc., all sounded much, much better on the klipsch system. If I had only heard the deftechs, I probably would have been very satisfied bringing them home. But I heard the klipsch system and the margin between these two is like comparing a PC speaker system to the reference line from klipsch-not even close. There is a reason that klipsch speakers are in (what 80%?) of the movie theaters in the United States. When you take these puppies home, you will not need to go to another movie!!! (Although you may find yourself looking at overhead projectors...addictions, addictions addictions...) Bottom line for me: Deftechs will yield an absolutely wonderful sound. They truly are a good speaker. Their design allows the music to simply fill the room, especially in two-channel listening. Wonderful sounding for vocals and not bad for the rest. Klipsch just annilated the deftechs in home theater applications and was stunningly superior for rock and country. Bottom line for you: Take your favorite music with you (along w/a dvd or 2 if you plan on home theater applications) to you local dealerS. (Emphasis on plural). Listen to the same songs on each speaker system and you be the judge...You're the one that will be listening to it!!! But buy klipsch or you're a mo-ron...lol Just kidding, let me know what you think... David

    Playstation 2

If the shoe fits... lol, j/k Let's put it this way: I bought SOCOM last November and got online capabilities in late December or early january. I have not played another game since then and I play almost every night. But I don't play the single player version very often, just online. The attraction with the online gaming is that there is no A.I. (artificial intelligence). In single player games, even socom, you get to a certain point and then start over. When you start over, you always know what the moves of the characters are going to be, so the real challenge is to just get to the next step. With online gaming, you are always playing with other people who never (except newbies) do the same thing over and over. Even better, you get the mic and can talk to your teamates. I have played with some of these guys since late January and now consider them friends. You need to dust that thing off and get movin'. The best experience is online gaming w/the mic. When the mics are down or people aren't talking, you really know what you're missing. Try it. I promise you that you will not be dissapointed, although the beta has some quirks to it that have already been fixed for the final game. David

    Playstation 2

My sentiments exactly (regarding SOCOM online). Run, don't walk, run to the local game store and reserve your copy of SOCOM II today. I promise you that you will not be dissapointed, especially if it is as good as the first. You will also need the network adapter, but you should be able to pick up a used one for less than the $40 they go for new. SOCOM is the most popular console game right now. jzoz-sorry if I misspelled... Which server do you play in?
  11. I am trying to hook up my cable tv (digital, if that matters) to my receiver in order to utilize my speakers. There must be a signal coming from the cable box (motorola) because I can get sound from the speakers but I cannot get a picture on the television. I am running s-video from the receiver to the line 1 input on the television. I am also running the cable directly from the cable box to the cable input on the television. I can get a picture and sound through the television with the input directly from the cable box, but when I switch over to the line 1 input on the television, there is no picture, even though there is sound. (video cable is plugged in from cable box to video in on the receiver) Any ideas for troubleshooting this? David
  12. I am in the same boat here. My RF-7's arrived yesterday and so I pulled them out of the box and just hooked them up right there. I was a bit dissappointed in the sound quality of the speakers when compared to the same RF-7's in the local dealer's store. However, I did notice that the placement of the speakers had a large impact on the overall sound quality. Try moving them around a bit, and see if that helps.
  13. Pete, I am somewhat of a newbie at the HT thing, although I have had an interest in music and stereo equipment since high school (wired my room w/speaker wires in the walls, etc...) Today I am happy to tell you that I picked up part of my order from Klipsch. (My RF-7's came in). I eagerly await the Rc-7 and the RSW-15-hopefully I'll get them shortly!!! Congrats on your purchase! david
  14. Moon, If your wife would rather have a car stereo for her birthday than the interior decorator, I'll bet there are a bunch of guys out there who would like to meet her sister!!! My wife sounds very similar to yours...Ain't it great?! (Well, most of the time...lol) dkp
  15. I am an online video game junkie/addict lol. My game for the last year has been (on the PS2) SOCOM. If you haven't played this, you guys should really check it out. The game comes w/a mic, so you can talk to your teamates when you are playing. (The mic is on a real lightweight headset.) Game play is 2 teams of up to 8 players on each side. I personally haven't played some of the games you have listed here, but many of my online friends have, and they swear by this SOCOM game. Try it, but beware of the addiction to socrack...lol Since the game has been out for a little over a year now and SOCOM II coming out in November, you can pick it up fairly cheaply. SOCOM II will be out November 4th, so that may hurt the number of people playing SOCOM online, but I promise you that you will love this game.
  16. I spoke with the National Accounts Manager at Klipsch before I purchased my system and he told me that there are about 3-4 of them. I don't recall the others, but one is goodguys.com. (I believe that goodguys will only sell, or are only allowed to sell, online to people in their area).
  17. You need to understand that there are only about 3 or 4 authorized online Klipsch dealers. The vast majority are unauthorized dealers, which means that more often than not, the serial number tags have been removed from the product and thereby voided the factory warranty. Some of these dealers will provide you with their warranty, but my concern would be who is actually working on your high-end equipment. I would urge you to jump on the Klipsch website and print out a list of the authorized dealers within x number of miles from your home. Call a bunch of them for the best price on the equipment that you intend on purchasing. Be as up front with them as possible. The RSW-15 retails for $1,800, but you won't have to pay that for the sub. So you need to ask yourself how concerned you are with the product and warranty that you are getting. I would personally be leary of paying only $1,000 delivered for that sub. (the 15) Try working with your local dealer a bit and see what you can do there.
  18. I hope that I am posting this in the right forum. If not, just let me know. I noticed that my local store now offers the Infocus Screenplay 4800 projector for about $1,400. They will usually dicker with you a bit, so I'm guessing out the door for about the $1,400 price tag. Any comments on this projector? It will not do the HDTV, but it doesn't cost $6,000 either. I have a 32" Sony right now, so it would be a definite upgrade at a moderate cost. (I would also have to add in the cost of the screen, mounting, cables, etc so total price would be around $2,000 I am guessing...) Go Wings!!!

    ONLINE SALES

I would urge you to work with (or just plain work) your local dealer(s) a little bit. I am getting ready to order the Reference 7 system (RF-7, RC-7, RS-7 & RSW-15) from my local dealer. When I first started working with the salesman there, I was quoted a price of a shade over $5000 for the system above. I got online, called a number of the unauthorized dealers for their best prices and also called a number of the Klipsch dealers within 300 miles of my home. My best prices were: unauthorized dealer: $3900 shipped authorized dealer: $4000 shipped authorized dealer w/in 1 1/2 hours of home was around $4300. I took these prices back to my local dealer. They agreed to sell me the system for $4,000. A little bit of perspiration on your part may get you not only the product you want, but the product you want with the factory warranty.
