  1. I am helping a friend build up a budget (and I do mean budget) HT system, which will incorporate three KG2.2s which I swapped out of my own system. One option is to select larger front L&R which would have to be responsible for most bass output. There probably will not be enough $ to buy a powered sub if we get larger mains. I was thinking about some KG4s, which can be had off Ebay for $200-300. Do you think they would be able to produce enough bass so that listeners could at least appreciate (albeit modestly) some movie LFE effects? Also, would they integrate well (timbre-wise) with the 2.2s (sufficiently for a "non-audiophile" listener)? An alternative idea is to get two more KG2.2s for fronts, which are pretty cheap ($75 or so on Ebay) and thus may allow the purchase of a powered sub. Would that option be preferable to the one in the previous paragraph? I personally have a RW-12, but that is out of the $ range for my friend. Which subwoofer model, if that option is pursued, would be affordable (i.e., among the cheapest available) and effective in a KG2.2 (x5) system? Thanks for your recommendations.
  2. I don't know if this is the same, but I received my first RW12 which was DOA. I tried every possible connection and nothing worked. Sent it back to dealer, who opened it up and found that one of the wire leads to the speaker had disconnected. Got a new one, shipping reimbursed, everything OK. Last night, added a new center, and began test tones to reset levels. Discovered the sub had no output. I flipped the auto/on switch (auto to on, then back to auto), and it came on. I'm not sure why. You may check out either of these possibilities.
  3. I am enhancing my existing system of Forte mains, KG 2.2 rears, and KG 2.2V center with two Forte IIs which will become mains, with original Fortes moved to rear L&R. I have read dozens of posts here about recommended centers for Forte IIs. Practical limitations rule out another Forte, Heresy, or other large speaker as center; limited availability of the Academy rules that out, at least for now. Many of you recommend KV-3, KT-LCR, or KLF-C7 as centers for Forte IIs. I don't think any of them share the same or even similar drivers to the Forte IIs, so the timbre match seems to be hit or miss. Interestingly, the KG2.2V goes down to 50 Hz, while all the others only go to 65 or 75 Hz, including the KLF-C7s with the larger 8" woofer. Because I cannot audition any of these without buying them, i.e., trial and error, my main question to those of you in the know is, Would any of the three smaller centers make any significant improvement over my existing KG 2.2V? My next question concerns my Yamaha receiver's 5-band equalization function for the center channel, pretty clever actually, since most systems/users have a smaller center than front L&R. Has anyone ever used such an equalization of the center with success? Which frequency bands would likely be the most critical to adjust? Thanks for your advice in advance.
  4. What part of the country are you in (to know if pick up is even a possibility)? If it is not, what shipping methods would you prefer, and estimated cost? thanks
  5. Here's my first post, to get advice from the experts here. With upgrade to Dolby Digital receiver, have began wondering what to add as a rear center. Current set up is Forte mains, KG2.2v center, and KG2.2 rears (all walnut). Assuming I will not find a single, used KG2.2 in walnut for sale, what current models would blend best with l&r rears? A second option may be to move KG2.2v from center to rear center, and get a new front center (that must fit on top of projection TV; hopefully not much bigger than KG2.2). Can you audio wizards help? I read many past similar posts, but new models may be out, previous recommendations outdated, etc. Thanks in advance.
