  1. Hmm....so, you would characterize it as like a civet cat clawing its way out? [|-)]
  2. The Canon A-series (A480, A560, A590, etc.) are good, and in the $100-$200 range; they give complete control to who wants it or can be left in fully automated mode. Pull the card out, take it to the Walmart photo kiosk, and print the ones you want. I selected this model for my 80 yr old father to give to his 75 yr old girlfriend, and she loves it.She does not download files to a computer, just prints from the memory card directly. I have one myself, but I use it in manual mode with specific settings selected for the shot. Update: One of the positive things about it is it takes 2 AA batteries, instead of an expensive dedicated battery. I have only used 2650 mAh NiMH rechargables, and they last a very reasonable amount of time. Regular alkaline AAs may not last a very long time in any digital camera.
  3. While we are at it, another common problem is "loose" ('looss') vs. "lose" ('looz'). "Loose" is an adjective or condition, e.g., She is a loose woman; or, your spade connector to your speaker is loose. "Lose" is a verb, e.g., Don't lose your mind. So, take it from Dr. Grammar, don't be loose with lose.
  4. I am sorry you are having difficulties; I have the same setup, but do not think I have ever heard what you describe. I listen at levels (some in music, some in movies) that might be 90-95 dB, so maybe less than you do. On one of my sub cabinets, I have a little "aesthetic" display, which includes a small southwestern rug or placemat sized fabric. One corner of it, with fringe, hangs down 2 or 3 inches in front of the middle 1/3 of the port. When a loud, deep passage occurs, boy does that fabric flap like a fan was behind it. If you bought the system new, from an authorized dealer, then ask Klipsch tech support about it. Unfortunately, if you bought it used, like I did, they won't help you one whit (but maybe someone else here can help).
  5. At least you are spelling it right, unlike some Heresy owners from this forum who have spelled it "Hersey" or even "Hershey" (mmm, chocolatey!).
  6. While you may be attached to your speakers, rebuilding them with new woofers, crossover components, etc., may cost more than they are worth. I have seen them sell on ebay for anywhere between $250-$400. It seems that some are listed there nearly every month or so. I empathize, as it may be a tough choice.
  7. I feel for you, as this is a vexing problem. Having it continue, with more than one receiver, and with your close examination of connections, does suggest that it is not in the receiver. Is returning the speakers to BB an option? They should honor any return or warranty policy. Do I understand you to say that whoever bought and returned them previously cut some wires? If so, the speakers should not have been sold in that condition. I would hope that BB should take the info you have presented above, along with documentation that you attempted to solve the problem with their geek squad, and give you a refund. I don't know anything about that model, but it sure sounds like it is in the speakers themselves. Could you find or borrow some other speakers to test, and therefore confirm that the problem lies with the 500s? I wish I had more to offer you. Good luck.
  8. I have an older Yamaha receiver, and the only time it has ever shut off like that is because I accidentally allowed the + and - parts of the speaker wires to touch each other. This may also happen when other RCA connectors are touching somehow. The speaker connections on the back of the receiver may be where the problem is, if it is a + - grounding issue, because any loose individual strand of wire may have separated from the main wire and be touching the opposite pole connection next to it.
  9. As I look at those '80s ladies, I hear an ABBA soundtrack in my mind.
  10. What about those marionette adventure shows: SuperCar, and FIreball XL5? I think there were others, too. Anybody remember that 1968 one-season, superhero spoof TV show called "Captain Nice?"
  11. There is no D540, I assume you must mean D40. That camera requires an AF-S lens to autofocus, which you have purchased. Other lenses will fit but in manual focus only. Some older lenses may not even meter with the D40. I have a D40 as my 2nd camera and love it. I got it about a year ago from Amazon w/kit lens for $409. Already have an arsenal of lenses, so I sold the kit lens on Ebay for $100. Not a bad price for such a good camera. If your camera is not working properly after the fall, check on www.photo.net for recommendations for repair shops. It seem like the Nikon repair service is variable; some like other independent repair shops much better.
  12. Your DVD player should also have a set up option for specifying no sub. It may then combine the LFE channel into the mains. If you tell it or your receiver that thare is a sub, then they will likelyl send those signals to nowhere, and you will be missing them.
  13. I liked it because the plot was simply what they did (defuse bombs and IEDs) and their respective personalities, strengths, weakness, humanity. It was not "Hollywood-ized" with absurb plot elements like espionage, betrayal, etc., that are not part of that reality in Iraq.
  14. For new products, it's been my experience that Amazon has almost everything available (at least mainstream, maybe not obscure indie releases), and CDUniverse (same as DVDUniverse) has a lot also. You might have to do some calculation to see which is lower after shipping is added. I also use half.com to find used CDs, which can often be had for 1/2 to 1/3 of original retail. Half.com is owned by Ebay and sellers have the same feedback records, so you can tell who is a trustworthy seller.I have purchased probably 50 CDs from half.com, and have received only 2 or 3 defective ones (and got refunds).
  15. I would pose this to Klipsch tech service, such as Trey Cannon, on this forum, for specific details. The large cables are to meet certain standards, maybe THX, meaning that huge amounts of power can be sent to the subs when playing at THX levels.. In normal use, the cables may be overkill. Speakon connectors (which are the only type of connection between the amp and sub cabinets), are solderless. I have taken them apart, and while not easy-easy, anyone with a small screwdriver and needlenose pliers can do it. Thus, you can run other types of speaker wire, e.g., 10 or 12 gauge, through your walls, but they will have to end in the Speakon connectors.
  16. Excuse my ignorance, but does that mean that I cannot use a standard sub cable? Will I have to run new wires in the walls? Thanks for all the feedback! No, it refers to the cables that connect the KA-1000 sub amp to the two KW-120 woofer cabinets. You can run them anywhere you like, but likely just along the floor somewhere. They are about the diameter of large appliance power cords, and the Speakon connector at each end is about the size of your thumb. The sub amp takes a standard RCA connector from your receiver.
  17. $2K is a killer deal, which you probably won't ever come across again. The subs are extremely good sonically, and will dish out almost any level of deep, deep bass, although they won't do to 14 Hz, if that's what you are after. Individually they are much smaller than a single monolithic SVS or other single subs of equivalent muscle, which means less visual impact (WAF), and the two separate cabinets means more flexibility in location. Keep in mind they use the Neutrik Speakon connectors and 1/2" diameter black cables, which are larger than standard cables/connectors. I say, unequivocally, go for it!
  18. Hopefully many others will chime in with extremely specific suggestions, but overall, your problem doesn't make sense. The 4.2s should be more efficient/sensitive than the smaller ones, meaning they should play louder with the same level of input from the amp. Are the new 4.2s in more or less the same location as the previous smaller ones? If not, then room acoustics and listening distance could be an issue. Are you certain that all drivers are working? The 4.2s are a two-way system (tweeter, woofer+passive), so make sure that the tweeters are working (a simple test is to stuff a balled up sock in the tweeter horn, and a big difference will be heard; if not, the tweeter is not working). Have you double checked your hook up, making sure that they are both wired in correct phase (pos to pos, neg to neg)? Does the HT amp have any sort of automatic level setting that is lowering the level of the mains? Sorry, that's all I have to suggest at present.
  19. Quote: "First let me say that with a header stating "anyone have some nice cans", I just cannot believe that Jackson Bart hasn't jumped all over this one> Is he in the hospital??" OK, I'll step in. Is this what you were thinking of?
  20. "I've got propane in my urethra." [from spoof of KotH on Family Guy, or was it Southpark?]
  21. No one has mentioned the other part of the Southern good luck tradition...put a (copper) penny in when cooking them. Don't know how that is supposed to work.
