  1. No! If the sub is connected to the receiver with the RCA cable, then bass management is being done in the receiver. Set the speakers (ALL of them) to Small and let the sub handle the bass. If the subs are connected via speaker cables (rarely done, and usually done with 2 or more subs) then those channels (and only those channels) that are connected to the subs - usually the mains - are set to Large to use the sub's crossover.
  2. RS closed out the old model of the analog meter early last year (or before). They have a newer model now. I have the digital version and it works just fine. You can also use it as a powered microphone for input to frequency graphing programs etc. The mike is omnidirectional and does NOT need to be pointed at the speaker. I point it straight up in the air to pick up all the speakers when doing a calibration. The MCACC and similar systems often come up with some weird combination. I suggest using a manual calibration at least as a sanity check.
  3. I got mine of eBay for less than $400. That's about as well as you're going to be able to do there for black. Oak goes for $550-$750, and last walnut (very rare apparently) went for well over $800. You can find them, just be prepared to pay. Use the Favorites page to save a search, with email notification.
  4. Especially Who concerts! Yep! That's how mine happened. Of course it didn't show up for 10 years...
  5. My grand-neice grew up on Led Zeppelin and she turned out alright. Maybe your babies would like some too?
  6. Thanks for the link. I couldn't find much there on the topic at hand.
  7. On the avsforum, I've been holding forth on my opinion that bi-wiring is a waste of copper and $$. Then some guy pointed me at the Sunfire amps that have a "Voltage Source" and "Current Source" off each channel. The technical explanation is a little thin, just this so far: http://www.sunfire.com/pdf/sunwhite05.pdf (This is Bob Carver writing?) As far as I've been able to learn, one side has a fat 1 ohm resistor in series. That's all. Sounds like snake oil to me. Same garbage that "exotic speaker cable as filter" salesmen push. Anyone know anymore about this? edit: Here's pic of the butt end of one of the amps: http://www.sunfire.com/images/details/Signature600FrontPR_Rear.jpg
  8. Is that an old Altec Voice of the Theater horn? I used one of those on a corner horn (Jensen Imperial, not Khorn design) I built. It sounded GREAT. Where are you crossing over with this setup?
  9. Especially in such good condition! Congratulations!
  10. Went for $810. Anyone here get it?
  11. I bought my Fortes in 1987. I've used them regularly since, and they are still my main units. I will never sell them. Some day I'd love to own Khorns (the finest overall speaker I've ever heard). I could have bought them, but they really need corners to live in, and I've never had free corners. So the Fortes stay up front.
  12. You can probably get the better price on a Forte, and I like them better than the Chorus, although you'd think the Chorus would have better bass... Between the '1' and '2' they changed the upper drivers. Look at the older products section on the main page to compare.
  13. Realize too that a lot of these "big item" auctions are the result of divorce. Or the guy losing his job. Very often have to work around the seller's situation. I make it a rule never to do a deal over $400 without using escrow. If the guy won't go for escrow on my dime (and most will split), you can bet it's a scam. (OTOH, I've had to educate several sellers about it. After which they love it because it protects them too.)
  14. moon, for this size deal you really MUST use escrow (unless you do it in person).
  15. It has been relisted due to "an error in the listing", but I see no difference between the listings (maybe in the shipping costs??). Still in the wrong section too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2223994836 Currently at $250 (down from $308 of previous listing). A member here is trying to match his '51 (see the thread in the ..Older Speakers section).
