  1. I am looking into buying a Jolida amp for my 2004 La Scalas and don't know which one to get. I can afford $1100 which would get me the 302b. The 302b has 50 watts which is plenty and has gotten excellent reviews. Can anyone who owns Jolida amps give me any help on the sound differences between the 102b compared to the 302b I don't want to have to replace it for 5 or ten years so I want the best sounding Jolida amp in my price range. The 102b has 20 watts which is plenty for La Scalas so how much better does the 302b sound compared to the 102b. Thanks for any help Xman
  2. It turns out I am going to Alabama after Orange Texas so if I sell them we could met as I go through NO. I am looking into getting a Jolida amp so I could use extra cash. I don't know when I will get my La Scalas, maybe mid March or early May. If you can wait that long I am willing to sell them to you. Send me an email and we can get on the phone and work out details. Xman
  3. I sent DeanG a email about how much he would charge to do a upgrade on the crossovers on my KLF 20's. I was going to put the 20s in my bedroom or as my rear speaker in my HT and was curious about how they would sound with the upgraded crossovers. I had not thought about selling them but if I do not do the upgrade I will consider selling them. IF I do sell them you will be the first one I will offer them to. I would only sell both of them but I cannot gaurantee that I will sell them. I just read a review of DTLongo 2003 Khorns with a Fisher tube integrated amp that has me thinking about getting into tube gear. My La Scalas will not be ready until begining of March or maybe not. The shipping date has been moved back twice already. Jan 16 was the first shipping date then Feb 6 and now March 4. So I would keep looking for a pair or single KLF 20 and if you find a good deal then I would go for it. By the time I get my LS I should know if I will sell the 20's. How far are you from Austin, TX? Shipping on these would not be cheap? I think they are 89 pounds each but not sure. I bought these in 2001 so I would have to find out what they are worth now and work out a deal with you. I am going to Orange Texas in late march so it might be cheaper to met me in Orange than pay shipping fees. So keep looking and if you have not found any by mid march send me an email and I can let you know what I am going to do. There is a small pencil size hole on a grill but that is the only cosmetic I know of. Xman
  4. Do you have a tube preamp or is the Jolida JD 102B a Integrated amp? What was the total cost? My stereo budget for this year is blown since I went with new La Scalas and a pair of Monarchy Audio SM 70 Pros amps. I could have bought used ones but I wanted to try the new upgrades to the crossovers and if no one buys new Heritage then they will stop making them. Xman

  6. DTLongo that was a very good review! You are much more articulate in describing the way the Khorns sound than I could. I am waiting on a pair of 2004 La Scalas and I may have to refer people to your review instead of even trying to write a review. Like you I do not have tube gear. I own 2 Monarchy Audio SM 70 Pros that I run with a Luxman C300 preamp and a NAD C540 CD player. It sounds very good with my KLF 20's and will sound even better with the LS. I am out of money so the tube gear will have to wait till later this year or begining of 2005. I have never heard tube gear but the SM 70 Pros for SS amps have a wonderful sound. I will buy a tube preamp first and probably won't buy tube amp until June 2005. 7. Thanks Dean!! My friend use to have his La Scalas in a small living room and they sounded great. Xman
  8. I ordered some 2004 La Scalas that should look like the solid black pair on Ebay right now. My living room is 15X16 and I decided to buy them anyway. In 3-6 years when I get a bigger house with a bigger living room they will sound even better. Having LS in a room that size means that you will not have to turn up the volume very much to get to the volume level you like to listen at. I have seen pic on this forum of Khorns in smaller rooms. The LS will sound better in a larger room but they will also sound great in rooms our size. They are big, and many wifes don't like the looks and size which are two factors that many people have to consider. My best friend had a pair for 15 years and I have never been able to get to that excellent level of sound. My Heresys and KLF 20s are very good speakers but I have wanted LS for a very long time so I finally bought them. Also remember the LS bass is very good down to 50 hz but below that it drops off. So if you listen to classical and anything that hass bass between 20-40hz the LS bass may not work for you. If you have a sub then it would work. I'll send a email once I get my LS good luck if you bid! Xman
  9. ---------------- On 2/17/2004 2:08:34 PM Ray Garrison wrote: hoggy, cut Throat... I'm one of the guys that keeps saying that La Scalas and Belles have no bass. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I disagree the La Scala and Belles have excellent bass down to 50 HZ. I do agree that below 50 HZ they do not have bass. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The reason I keep saying this over and over is mostly to try and prevent people new to these lines from being disappointed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That is what is great about this forum it allows people to research speakers before buying them. But to say the La Scalas and Belles do not have bass can be misleading. However you explain the difference in bass between the Khorns and the LS and Belles extremly well! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are physically large speakers. Very large. People tend to be conditioned to expect that the bigger the speaker, the lower and louder the bass will go. With both La Scala (which I've owned and loved) and Belle, the simple fact is that their response falls off quite rapidly below 50 or 55 Hz, depending upon room and setup. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My best friend use to dj at parties with some La Scalas and NO one ever said they did not have enough bass! Years later I moved to Austin Texas which has a lot of live music. The bass I hear at most, not all but most live bands sounds like my friends LS. For rock, pop, some jazz, and country the La Scalas and Belles are excellent speakers. But as you and other have pointed out below 50 hz and they lose the bass. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Is strong response down to that range considered "good bass"? Depends upon what you listen to. Certainly most pop/rock has little or no content below that. Kick drum impact is in the upper bass, 60 to 80 Hz range. Even a big bass drum has most of the punch and impact in the mid bass. Bass guitar can go lower, but only a few notes some of the time. Mostly is above this cutoff. If you don't listen to music with strong content in the lowest octave (20 to 40 Hz or so) you will not ever find your La Scalas or Belles lacking anything in the bass department. They'll be tee-rific. However. If you take something with low bass, *REAL* low bass, and play it through either Belle or La Scala, you'll find there's absolutely no output. Of the fundamental, at least... you might get some output from doubling (second harmonic) or higher harmonics, but the bass fundamental won't be there. For example, the beginning of the 2nd movement of the Saint-Saëns Symphony No. 3 "Organ Symphony" has a sustained tone at 16 cycles. If cut Throat hooked up his REL Strata III to the system and played that piece, you'd feel (more than hear) a deep, majestic almost organic tone supporting the rest of the orchestra - a tone that echos in a very primal sense the theme of the second movement. Without the sub, you'd hear absolutely nada. The organ may as well not be playing. ---------------- I am waiting on a pair of 2004 La Scalas. I already own a KSW 12 so the lower bass is not a problem if I want the really low hz. But I doubt I will ever use the sub with the La Scalas. So I have a really big favor to ask of all those people who own speakers that can go below 50 hz; instead of saying "La Scalas and Belles have no bass." Please say La Scalas and Belles have excellent bass down to 50 hz but the bass drops off below 50 hz. Think of it like this the La Scalas and Belles are muscle cars with a lot of horse power(bass). Because the Khorns have more horse power it does not mean the LS and Belles do not have any horse power. Sorry I'll stop rambling. 10. After the joy and amazement has gone Noah looks up at me confused because he cannot answer the only question that has any meaning in his life WHERE DOES THE WATER GO?
  11. I wish my pleasures in life were this simple. Every time I flush Noah has to watch.

  13. I'm waiting on a pair of 2003 La Scalas and I own a KSW-12 so once I get the LS I'll let you know how they match. The KSW-12 match very good with my KLF 20s! Hopefully I won't need the ALKs but what are grippers? I have spikes on the bottom of my KLF 20s that grip the floor-same thing? I read Colin's review on the sandbags on top of the speakers tweak but I have 2 cats one is not declawed. So I do not want to come home with sand all around the LS. Would some other method of weighing them down work and has anyone else tried this tweak and what was their results? Xman
  14. I own the KSW-12 and love it! However I have not heard your JBL sub so can not compare the two. I own KLF 20s and the KSW 12 sound great together! How big is your room? Mine is 15 X 15 X 8 and the sub is more than enough! The great thing about this sub is it works great with home theater and a 2 channel system. If your room is very large then maybe the KSW 15 might work better. Check Ebay for one and try it out. Xman
  15. I am in a similar situation. I own KLF 20s and have used them in my home theater for 2 years and love the sound. I decided to do a 2 channel and HT systems. So the 20s are going to the bedroom and I am getting new La Scalas. How big is your room and how much can you spend on speakers? Large room big budget-Khorns. Big or midsize room medium budget-La Scalas or Belles. "listen to rock. Usually louder than I should" My best friend used to dj with La Scalas and they are excellent for rock music!! Ebay almost always has all three speakers for sell. Right now there are around 5 different pairs of La Scalas. Do a search on Klipsch. Good luck and be paitient and you will find something! Xman
  16. There are 2 KLF C7s on ebay. 1 is almost at the end of it's time, I think it is a black one. The other has around 3days left and is mahogany. The black one is around $365 for now and I think they are closer to you then the one in Atlanta. I own KLF 20s and a C7 that I have enjoyed very much! If you can not get one of these be patient more will show up on Ebay. Good luck Xman
  17. Jmon, With KLF 20's they sound great! When I first got them they sounded very bright and the midrange was not very good but after 6 weeks of burn in they have become outstanding amps!! Also since my speakers are 99DB when a amp is in it's burn in stage the speakers make them sound very bad but now sound very good. I am waiting on a new pair of La Scalas so once I get them I'll make a post about how they match with the SM 70 Pros. I'm thinking about buying Paramour SE 2A3 parafeed monoblocks from Bottlehead products. I have never owned tube amps and the price is what I can afford. If I can build the amps and like the sound then I can upgrade to better amps next year. Xman
  18. I own a pair of KLF 20's that sounds fantastic with rock!! The KLF 30's would have better bass but would cost more so the KLF 20s are more in your price range used. good luck!! Xman
  19. Natgun I own 1 SM 70 and 2 SM 70 Pros and all three amps are very good amps! Right now I own a pair of KLF 20's that match very good with the 70 Pros using a Luxman C300 preamp. Klipsch should be shipping a new pair of La Scalas on Feb 6 so once I get the LS I'll let you know how they sound. I think Monarchy is not making the SM 70 and replaced it with the 70 Pro. You can probably find used SM 70 on the internet. I have not used tube amps so I cannot give a comparison. The owner of Monarchy Audio can make such good products at a low price because he is wealthy enough that he is not trying to make a huge profit but make a top quality product that anyone can afford. I am looking into a pair of paramour SE 2A3 parafeed monoblocks. I have never built a tube amp before so no expierence with this type of project. I must admit the idea of spending $600 + on a project that I don't know what I'm doing and then hooking them up to my new La Scalas is scary! If you are ever in Austin, TX come on over and take a listen to the SM 70 Pros! Xman
  20. I have seen them on Ebay so keep a lookout and also try Audiogon.
  21. I own KLF 20s also and have spiked them and it did help a little with the bass. Also have to make sure that the front spikes are the correct hight which depends on your couch. I had mine angled too high toward the roof so my mids and treble were not as clear. Play with them to find the best spot for speaker placement and spike hight. I am getting some new La Scalas and since they don't come with spikes I'm thinking of adding 50-80 pounds on top of the speakers(don't want sand bags on top - have cats - possible major mess) to help tighten the bass. I will wait a couple of months before I try it so I can get used to the sound without them and let the speaker break in.
  22. skonopa I own a pair of KLF 20s and I agree they can be agressive in their sound that is what I like. It also depends on what they are being run with. I have a Dennon 4800 HT receiver with a Dennon 2900 DVD that has been a very good combo. I also have a Luxman preamp and 2 Monarchy Audio SM 70 Pros with a NAD C540 CD player as a 2 channel system that sounds very good! I have heard RF7s in stores and do not like them because of lack of midrange, that is how they sound to me. I don't remember what was being used to run them but with better equipment they would have sounded better! Both RF7s and KLF 20s are very good speakers!! I think the KLF series was not designed as a home theater speaker. KLipsch later added the center channel when home theater systems started getting popular but I'm not positive. I think Klipsch should still make the KLF series as a option to the RF7s. I bet there are a lot of Klipsch owners who think their speakers should still be in production also! I owned a pair of Heresys for 15 years and the KLF 20s sound almost as good. I am waiting on a pair of new La Scalas any day. The great thing about this forum is that everyone can express what they like and don't like in speakers, audio gear, music and other things! Everyone's idea of the ideal sound is different and everyone should respect other people's views and tastes.
