  1. Great album by a very good southern rock band with many influences (including Coltrane). Derek Trucks played on a couple of earlier albums and their rendition of "Soulshine" originally recorded by the Allman Brothers is excellent. Have not heard it on vinyl, but glad to see they are doing something like that. Enjoy.
  2. NEED, has got nothing to do with it!
  3. Nice. Front row no less! Would love to see him again. Saw Jethro Tull in 1977 at Arrowhead Stadium in KC. Not so good acoustics, but a helluva show. It was Rory Gallagher, Todd Rundgren, Robin Trower...and Jethro Tull. This was the first time I had ever seen a "jumbotron" type screen. They had it above the bandstand and called it Tullevision!
  4. LMAO...and I bet that was absolutely right! Gotta love that "Lil' Old Band From Texas."
  5. They rock live, and are LOUD! If you are a real fan check out the newly released 180 gr vinyl remaster of "Tres Hombres." I got it a couple of weeks ago and can't stop listening to it. A thousand times better than the over-reverbed, exceedingly "hot" recording on CD. Almost worth the price for just "Waiting for the Bus / Jesus Just Left Chicago" and "La Grange." By the way...have fun at the show!
  6. Both units look nice and the prices are very reasonable. Speakerfritz is right about shipping. Glass faces + UPS = Danger. I would request both sellers to remove the glass face plates then pack very carefully and BUY INSURANCE. I have been lucky (and patient) enough to find my Cornwalls and McIntosh gear within driving distance and gone to personally pick them up. McIntosh power amps are heavy and hard to pack well without a McIntosh packing carton. If you get them, listen first then decide if you need work. There is a guy named Terry Dewick on the AudioKarma forum that has a great reputation for McIntosh repairs / refurbs. You will love them. Mc amps love Klipsch.
  7. Hey Doug, thanks for the reply. I thought I was right about the heirarchy of video connections, but was not sure. I wasn't clear as to the multilple input regarding video and as I read your note I realized your observation about multiple video connections not making sense is correct. As to audio, my player is a Pioneer Elite universal CD / SACD / DVD player and you are correct that the SACD signal will only pass via analog connections. However, CD and DVD signals will pass via the optical connection. So I can connect the audio portion via both and then select either optical or analog input via the preamp's menu. That would allow me to choose which DAC to use on a CD or DVD-A, no? Your point about HDMI is well taken. The player supports HDMI but my dead Pioneer preamp didn't and neither does the Parasound 7100...There is an expansion port on the rear of the Parasound that the company's web site says is for future HDMI possibilites. This makes me think I should consider another unit that does support the HDMI connectivity. Thanks for the points, appreciate it.
  8. Evening folks. My Pioneer Elite A/V Receiver took a lightning hit a month ago and the repair shop just called today and said it is DOA. He apparently has a Pioneer "specialist" on staff and he can't get it fixed. So I apparently have a new boat anchor. I have been thinking about a new A/V controller for sometime anyway, so I just officially got in the market for real. I currently have a Parasound HCA 2205 power amp and am considering the matching 7100 controller. First question is, anybody own one of these or heard one of these? Next questions regard connectivity. The Pioneer is about 5 years old so many tech improvements have been made. As I look at pictures of the rear of the 7100 I see many connections I don't currently have. So help me out with a couple of questions: Does the heirarchy of improved picture go from S-video to composite video to component video? If you connect multiple ways to the same component (say the DVD player) which over-rides which? Similar question on audio inputs. What is heirarchy of audio connections? Digital coax to Optical to Analog 5.1? If you connect from SACD / CD player to controller via optical cable which DAC is being used, the CD player or the controller. I assume if you connect CD player to controller via 5.1 analog inputs then the DAC in the controller is being used. Thanks for the help and sorry for the long post.
  9. Very nice. Groomlake; a gentleman and a scholar indeed!
  10. Gil, Didn't really see any anger in your comment. I was chuckling as I read your comment about Home Depot. I originally wanted to put something on once and be done. I went to Home Depot and called my Step dad while I was there looking at wood finishing products. He told me about the Minwax product and that I might have to get it at a paint store. He told me if I wanted a nice finish, to take the time to do it right. He has been working with wood for 50 years and he has built some amazing things (his company was contracted to build cabinets and displays for Bass Pro Shop for several years). He laughed at me and said that you can't just slap a finish on a half inch thick and have it look good. Good advice. He has seen the Corwalls and approved of my work.
  11. When I got my '85 CWO Cornwalls, they looked dried out. No scratches or dings, just had what looked like a haze. I tried a couple of furniture oils, but did not like the results. My Stepdad is a retired cabinet maker and he suggested the following: Lightly sand with Wet / Dry 800 grit sandpaper. Lightly sand with OOO steel wool, then put on three successive coats (allowing to dry 24 hours between each coat) of Minwax Antique Oil Finish (which I obtained at a paint store.) In addition, lightly sanding with the 000 steel wool between each coat. The minwax product is not really clear, but no pigment really present either. This took three nights to complete. This did "build a finish." They look spectacular if I do say so myself. The finish is hard, with a satin sheen. They sort of look like they were oiled then wiped dry. I have had a couple of people say they look brand new. I am not sure what else is in this stuff, but it does contain some linseed oil. Whatever is in it, it is good stuff.
  12. LMAO...Michael, watch out, she might be a little high maintenance.
  13. I hate to be a wet blanket here but...I bought the CD last night and by the time we got home from dinner and an unplanned shopping stop by the wife I only got to listen to it once. The jury is still out on it for me. The recording is good, Plant and Krauss' voices do make a nice duet, but the whole album seems dark and unmoving to me. Almost like someone said, be sure you don't show much emotion in your interpretation of the songs. There are a couple of tracks that are very good but I was not wowed by any track. Maybe just not quite what I was expecting. Need a couple more listenings today on the two channel rig rather than the car to get a better take on it. Just my opinion.
  14. Does not surprise me one bit. They are a little touchy-feely over there.
