  1. That was a killer deal. It's true there's still deals out there like this. That's how I got my mint Walnut Cornwalls for $350, original boxes and all.
  2. I've always been pleased with my Sony products, especially lately. I now have a 50" A10 and a 42" E2000 LCD rear projections TV's and both are great. I constantly get comments on the PQ especially after tweaking them by AVS Forum settings. Been away a while and just felt compelled to respond, I'll try not to stay away so long.
  3. They'll try to but never succeed. They're going to try and defeat the Fair Use law which allows you to make back-ups of your own DVD's and with the mine set in Washington these they'll probably succeed in getting it knocked down. Someone out there will figure out how to defeat one way or another. Bootlegs may be a real problem overseas but I just don't see it as a huge deal here. The only place I've seen few bootleg DVD's is at the local Flea Market, they were as high as the originals.
  4. Personally I think two is one too many. I'm still sitting on the fence about the whole ordeal. If a dual format player comes out at a decent price say under $500 I might go for it but until then I'm holding off buying very many DVD's of the older format. My DVD collection contains over 300 DVD's and basically in holding but frankly I haven't seen much available in the last 3-4 months even worth buying.
  5. I noticed that he mycablemart place has a 262 ft. HDMI cable, now that's one long cable. I can't imagine pulling that thing through with the ends already on it.
  6. Those of you that have already bought the HD-DVD, do you think you'll also buy the Blu-ray player when it comes out? I'm kind of sitting on the fence. I hear that one company maybe trying to produce a hybrid HD-DVD/Blu-ray combination player if the higher powers don't stop them from doing so. I think I could get my wife to go for the HD-DVD now but in another 6 six another different player, well I don't know how she's going to handle that. I like the idea of Toshiba being heavy and built in Japan and not China like it probably will be in few months. I also like the upconversion comments I've been hearing over at AVS as I have close to 300 DVDs and it would be nice to get the most out of them. One other thing that has been mentioned elsewhere is the fact that since it uses a standard drive in theory you should be able to upgrade it and it has removable RAM. Also I found out that the Toshiba at WalMart does indeed have the HDMI cable included contrary to what was being reported earlier elsewhere. I happen to go into my nearest WalMart today just to see if they might have one but the head person the electronics, which actually knew what I was taking about, said sorry but their store seems always be the one to last on the list. http://www.flickr.com/photos/zerokills/sets/72057594108018321/ http://geekswithblogs.net/lorint/archive/2006/04/21/75795.aspx Grateful11
  7. I'm flip flopping between getting the Oppp DVD player or waiting a few months and see what happens with the HD-DVD players. I believe I read that the Toshiba is backwards compatible, how's the PQ with reg. DVD's. My set has HDMI connector but I was planning on using it with my SA8300HD STB that I just upgraded to. For those who need additional here's the switch that most are talking about over at AVSForums. http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=101&cp_id=10110&cs_id=1011002&p_id=2777&seq=1&format=2&style= It has a remote. Not sure what's wrong with the link insertion button but it's not working right.

Bought it and it's still lying there unwatched.

    King Kong DVD

I'll take the 1933 edition for now, it's a Classic. My wife bought me the huge metal case Collector's Edition with a copy of the opening night Grauman's Theatre program and the miniature movie posters, it's quite nice problem is it won't fit in my DVD case standing up. I'm going to wait for the Extended version of the 2005 one.
  10. I think Prisoner of Azkaban was the best of the movies so far and the Chamber of Secrets was my least liked of all. I thought Goblet of Fire concentrated too much on the competition and not enough on the lives of the students but that's just me. I have not read the book yet but the other 3 members of the household have and they said you wouldn't believe how much of the first of the book was cut-out, especially the Quititch tournament at the beginning. I hope this kids are investing their money wisely because they're going to be so typecast that they'll likely never make it in the movie business after this series is over. Grateful11 PS: I hear it's going to late 2007 before the next installment hits the Big Screen.
  11. Thanks ironwoods, SXRD is Silicon X-tal Reflective Display. It's Sony's new supposedly 1080p compatible Rear Projection but the more I read about it the less it sounds like it ever play 1080p not over HDMI anyway. I've seen it once and it does a nice picture but it's pricey at $4K for 50". The more I read here and over AV forums the more it sounds like I shouldn't really be concerned with 1080p for a while. I'm still stuck between Plasma and RP DLP. I was just checking out Mitsubishi's line-up and it's impressive. Thanks again, Grateful11
  12. Hi, I'm looking at getting a 50" Plasma (Panasonic TH50PX50U or Philips 50PF7320A/37) or the new rear projection Sony KDS-R50XBR1 SXRD 50" 1080p. My Cornwalls might end up being less than a foot away from the screen, although the bottom of the screen will be probably be 2ft off the floor. Just curious if the magnetic field has an effect on any of these types of displays? Thanks, Grateful11
  13. Christmas Vacation was the first movie I actually walked out of a theater on. I made it to the circle jerk scene! Are you talking about National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation? That move is funny to no end. Love the part where Eddie is unloading the Motorhome holding tank, "Sh!tter's Full"!
  14. "Chariot's of Fire" was pretty bad.
  15. Maybe it's just me but I think "Brother Where You Bound " was their best. Grateful11
