A proper crimp tool will help make an optimal crimp for sure.

Contacts that show the following conditions shall be prohibited:
    a. Cracks in the plating or base metal.
    b. Tarnishing or discoloration of the plating.
    c. Plating removal or flaking.
    d. Out-of-roundness of the wire well entrance.
    e. Exposed base metal

I doubt a capacitor with thin tinned copper leads would be put into this style crimp connector in a deep space satellite. The crimp will most likely lead to exposed base metal in the cap leads with possible damage/cracks into the plating or base metal.

Both have pros/cons, I wouldn't put one over the other generally.

Nasa uses both solder and crimp in the last technical standards release I have;  NASA-STD 8739.4A  released to public in 2016

    I completely agree.

I only mentioned it because I have seen failures from people using these exact type of crimp connectors with electrical components thin leads in various Industrial control panels. They most likely used standard electrician crimp tools and probably didn't understand how to make a quality crimp connection like you.

As you point out it's a simple fix regardless. Now that I know you have a solid background and know what you are doing I wouldn't have even posted. I figured I could possibly help someone that may not know anything about quality connections but you are a professional so disregard my nonsense.

No worries man. Anyone who can't take constructive criticism should reevaluate their objection. All good.

Looks great but I wouldn't trust a crimp connection on the capacitor leads.

It all depends on using the correct tool for the optimum crimp. I have Amphenol mil spec crimpers that were required when I was working deep space satellites. Done correctly, a crimp connection is better than solder and one of the reasons why they are used by NASA. Given a crossover is low voltage, low current and a fairly stable platform, I think they will be fine. Then again if something fails, it's an easy repair.

  3. Here is how I spent my Sunday morning. A big shout out to Dean for the parts. The cedar boards I cut from a log I have had in my shop for over 10 years. I knew it would come in handy one day. Anyway, I would change a couple things, if I were ever to do this again, but over all not bad for something that gets hidden away inside a pair of Heresy's.

  4. My friend and Klipsch fanatic, Roger Gordon, sent these Pro La Scala's to convert to home speakers. Sadly, he passed away before they were completed. I have finished them and will be sending them to his wife and daughter. I hope they feel a bit of his presence when listening to them and appreciate their beauty, as I know Roger would.

Now you know why I started the thread. I bought a 50 watt/ch. Ice amplifier and a housing kit. Had to order 2 sets of cables since they were incomplete. Cables for that is the issue and even now, the connector is missing from one of the AC inputs. Stupid crap....................on the other hand, the 2 Hypex mono bloc kits I ordered from the Netherlands came fast, complete, and were the easiest builds EVER, with no soldering. I did both in 1.4 hours flat!

I went a similar route with the Anaview (Abletec) out of Sweden. I was lucky enough to pick up a pair because the company has gone OEM and no longer sells to the public. They are incredible amplifiers.

Nice cosmetics.  I see a mu of 70 - a 6SL7,  as the driver.  Is it direct coupled also. ?   Do the pictured white-based 2A3Es ( Electro Harmonix ) have a " harp" type filament structure by any chance, or are they more like a traditional "V" or a "W" shaped filament structure??  Thanks.

I sent you a message. As to the filament, I only know these are gold plated grid. I have not read anywhere the type of structure and it cannot be viewed because of the construction of the tube.

Great space to work. My next space I hope is this well setup. I have stuff in the attic and on shelves all around me lol...

Start with good basics and it will evolve over time. By the way, the big box the cables are hanging on is a Danley Sound Labs DTS-10 subwoofer that fires into the next room.

It has NEVER looked that neat in all the time I have known you. There is always at least one project going. Pandemic giving you extra time on your hands?

P.S. I just noticed the caption at the top, I was wondering why everything was in it's place and there wasn't something in one state or another of production.

I'll shoot a new pic tomorrow and post. I did repair an Audio Research integrated and bring an old Teac RR back to life. Outside of audio, I did build a RC Redcat Wendigo rock racer.

Thanks guys. It is a Clearaudio Champion II table with an SME 309 arm and Benz Micro cartridge. The little name placard was a gift from a friend, who owns a CNC machine.

  10. Now that is a simple circuit. I have been part of the less is more club, as part of my love of all things audio. Yes, I have some big speakers and amps, but I also have flea power amps and high efficiency speakers. There is a magic to the pairing. My lowest power amp build uses 6DN7 tubes that put out about 1-1/2 watts. They are magic with some Omega 7A speakers and even drive Khorns wonderfully.
