Warm and Airy Tube amps (Marantz 8B?) for Khorns wanted
hoggy replied to Ki Choi's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
Ki Choi, I'm still off work so your welcome to come over any time and check out Al's networks that DeanG upgraded with Auricaps. hoggy -

I really doubt Klipsch would even think about useing any aluminum wire. The silver color you are seeing is probably tinned copper. hoggy

I had my Belles for 26 years. Bought new. They are great speakers and I'm sure you'll be happy with them as i was. It took Khorns for me to change and at that if I would have added a sub I probably never would have gotten Khorns. Khorns do go lower noticeably. The older Belles did go lower than the newer ones do though and I have not heard the newer ones. hoggy

If you live in the Seattle area I'll let you borrow my AA's until you finish your ALK's. They have the 1uF mod and personally I liked it much better than without. hoggy

Thanks guys, That's what I had thought but got to wondering and wanted to make sure. As always everyone is so helpful here. Now to wait for them to show up. Thanks again, hoggy

Hi Q-Man, No I actually have not gotten them yet. I should get them this week. I just want to find out enough now so when I do get them I can try 'em safely without hurting anything. If I do have to do something I may get a hold of John. My ALK's have been upgraded with Auricaps so if I have to use Johns HF networks it would be with Auricaps and more expensive which I cannot afford right now. This may have to be a later on type thing for now. I'm kind of waiting for John and Al to chime in here too. Never thought I'd go this far with my Khorns. Guess I could try to sell some stuff on eBay but I'm a pack rat too which is not such a good thing. Thx, hoggy

Hi guys, I recently picked up a pair of JBL 2404H's and would like to know if I need to do anything to my ALK's. I thought by reading through posts on the 2404's that I would NOT if using Al's ALK's but now I'm not so sure. If I do what exactly do I need to do? This may have to be a later date project though. Thanks hoggy

1st you'd have to figure out how many peanuts it takes to make the peanut butter than convert the peanut butter to patato chips and on and on and so forth. Or vise-versy. D-ManLynnwoods not that far but to tell the truth I love the way my Khorns sound with my Mac and if tubes in fact do make that much differnce for the better why are you using your Mac instead? Just curious? hoggy

Must be a forum members business. Good one HDBRbuilder. Actually very funny if one really thinks about some of the threads here. hoggy

Also seems to me back in the old days some record stores (LPs only than) would play a LP for you on the gear they had at the store so we could listen before we bought. Some things do change and not always for the better. hoggy

Wish these companies would offer these cd's etc in 2 variations saying this one sounds good with top quaility gear and this one sounds good with junk stuff. hehehe Now that would be good. Such as a letter system. A= home gear B= average auto/cheaper players etc. hoggy

Not to be offensive or anything; all I hear is tube this tube that ss not good with khorns compared to tubes etc. etc. etc. Will someone in the Seattle area bring over their tube amp to compare with my McIntosh MC 352. I'd like to a-b them and see what the fuss is. I'd offer to bring my amp to one of their houses to compare but it weighs a ton. hoggy

What's the best way to clear up old metal gear
hoggy replied to thebes's topic in Technical/Restorations
Well I certainly wouldn't want to mess anyone up with any recommendation I made. I just know it's worked fine for me. One thing I do know for sure is whatever one uses make darn sure it has no abrasives in it. hoggy -
What's the best way to clear up old metal gear
hoggy replied to thebes's topic in Technical/Restorations
Well I use this stuff I get from the Harley Davidson dealer. It's not called silicon spray though that's what the base is. It's used to spray on the black crinkle cases etc, including plastic parts and is actually good for the paint. I'm out right now so don't know the name. If I remember right it's a S-1 product. You might look in auto parts stores. Just read the can and make sure it contains no oils although to date I have not had any problems concering a small amount of oil base but I don't/didn't know any better than just now when I read picky's response. hoggy -

Try a little silicon spray on a rag. I've had good success this way. hoggy -
I too have been into hi end gear since my 20's. It's just been recently I've been able to afford to upgrade componants. Klipsch is the one thing I forced myself to spend the money on early. These were my '76 Belles which I recently swapped for Khorns with Ki Choi who wanted Belles for centers. hoggy

Unexpected surprises and an old friend revisited-long
hoggy replied to dubai2000's topic in 2-Channel Home Audio
So dubai2000 are you saying since I have ALK's I would NOT have to do any other xover mods. Just hook the tweeter up to my ALK tweeter connections? My ALK's are moded with Auricaps by Dean though. I may have to try them after I go back to work. hoggy -

Can't do it Dean. I have to stop somewhere. Your right in the fact I don't hear over 12k. Besides I got laid off last week and work is looking bleak here in Seattle for Union Sheet Metal workers. hoggy -
HDM do a search "ALKing with hoggy" in 2 channel, author is deanG. He updated my ALK's with Auricaps and in my opinion made a big difference.

Dave, I think you were right in pointing this out. It may be as you say. Guess any one wanting to bid on these should email the seller and ask for better pics. hoggy
-
Hey Dave, I don't think one is faded. I think it's the flash from the camera you're seeing or a reflection. They do look really nice. hoggy

Yes the screw should be removed. Use a little silicone to reattach the conductor. hoggy
