  1. Just curious, but why would you want to do that?

  4. Ryan, Thanks for the info on the 382-B. All the lights work! I cleaned the switches and the unit works like new. It really does have a nice sound. dgb, not to rub it in or anything, but I only gave $5 for it!! David
  5. I picked up a Scott 382-B SS receiver at a 300-family garage sale on Saturday. It really sounds pretty good with the Cornwalls, very comparible to the HK430. It is in excellent condition and the tuner works well, and it does a good job with the TT (did not try the CD). I have not been able to find info on the internet (lots of Scott tube info, not as much SS). I don't know how old it is (late 60's?) or wattage or any other specs. I know the Scott tube amps are great for Heritage, but does anyone here have an opinion on the old Scott SS receivers?
  6. Holy cow! At 44 I guess I'm about four years overdue! Never had that treatment (does it hurt?). Maybe my wife will quit telling me to turn down the stereo.
  7. Sounds like a great Saturday afternoon project. Just enough of a project to give me a good excuse to put off the yardwork for one more weekend!
  8. Interesting. They claim 30 Hz - 20 KHz ± 5 db for their XA12 model. Doubtful with a 12" woofer? My brother lives about 35 miles from their location. I should ask him to go over and check them out. He owns Klipschorns, Lascalas, Cornwall 1s and IIs, so he should know what to look for.
  9. Count me in also for $25. Thanks to Andy's recommendation, I enjoy the heck out of my HK430 (great recommendation for the Cornwalls). Dean, I sent you PP.
  10. My center channel Cornwall woofer is flawless, but the sister speaker has a discolored area. In blind listening tests, there is absolutely no difference between the two speakers. If there are no other physical differences (such as surface finish or surface geometry), you will probably hear no difference.
  11. "speed of light = 299,792,458 m / s speed of sound = 340.29 m / s Therefore put the center channel on the coffee table directly in front of you." ---------------------------------------------------------- So, I guess headphones are the only way to get perfect lip sync! I guess I'll sell the Cornwalls
  12. Here's my 2 cents. If you really liked you Heresys, stick with Heritage speakers. Take the settlement money, put some cash with it, and bid on some Cornwalls (if you have the room).
  13. I have an idea that might improve the production lead time and boost new Heritage sales. Allow the buyer to go to Hope and help to build his own pair! Kind of like a temporary helper to "the guy" that works there. Of course they would probably have to charge more to cover the unfavorable scrap cost variance!
  14. I tried several alternatives to get the best center channel between two Cornwalls, including a pair of Heresys (not too bad when turned upside-down to on top of the TV to lower the horns to ear level). But I was not really satisfied until I got a single vertical Cornwall for the center (laying on its side on top of the TV). The Herseys are now the surrounds. My point, matching the front speakers as closely as possible was the best center channel solution for me.
  15. My brother is the LaS guy in the family, and I am the Corny. A few weeks ago he came to visit with his las in-tow. We listened to just about everything. In the end, the Las have more of the sound that you would hear in a loud dance club or live rock concert. They don't have near the bass response as the Corns, however. Either way, you don't need a high powered amp to get really loud.
  16. On Saturday, we're having friends over for dinner and to listen to everyone's favorite LPs or CDs (BYO disc party). Four of us have March birthdays, so my wife is going to order a birthday cake decorated with our names. I have just now decided to add one more name to that cake! Happy Birthday PWK!
  17. I was in Ultimate Electronics a couple of weeks ago. They had the price marked on the Pioneer 563sa at $180. I told the sales guy that Best Buy had them for $150. He checked the computer and said it was listed at $138 (their cost is $122). He said it was probably wrong, but that their new computer system was all screwed up and he would honor the price. I bought it on the spot. I figured, how could I go wrong at that price? I really am impressed with the unit. The component video looks pretty good, even on my 65" Mit HDTV. The SACD and the DVD-A are also not bad. I know that there are better universal units on the market (I was looking at the Denon 2200 for about $600), but at $150 you really can't go wrong with the Pioneer 563sa. Pick one up an your in business until you decide which high end unit to spend the big dollars on.
  18. Taylor, Do you have an Operating Manual for your Scott? If you do not, and you want a decent copy for free, send me a PM. David
  19. Fortunately for my wife (unfortunately for me) my brother went back home this morning and took his Las and one Vert Corn. But yesterday was great. Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan "in session" through Las and Corns at the same time is awesome! My little HK 430 had no problem handling the four speakers. The dust is still settling downstairs.
  20. Money well spent! Too bad my brother lives five hours away, and we don't get to do this too much. My back hurts from hauling the Lascalas upstairs and sitting them on the stands that I made earlier this week just for this event.
  21. My brother brought his toys to my house and we had fun! My Corwalls, Heresy's, and KG4s (not shown) his Lascalas, and our Vert. Corwalls (each have a center CW). The neighbors commented on the loud music, but did not complain. We never solved the "which is better" argument, Las or Corns. Both sound great by themselves, and incredible together. The verts vs. the regular corns?, difficult to hear the difference, but the bass was enhanced somewhat when the verts were laid on their side on the floor (second floor).
  22. So, when are you having us all over to your place?
  23. Great score for a fellow Cool Newbie! I drooled when I saw the pictures on eBay. The full grill is a nice look, and not too common.
  24. Are these the ones you got? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3075385514&category=14993&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd=1 If so, Nice! (I wondered why that auction ended early)
  25. Can't we all just get along?
