  1. Cornwalls rock, and have been typically selling for a little less than Lascalas, quite a bit less than Belles. The Cornwalls have the bass, and they have the Heritage sound. My brother swears by his Lascalas for listening to SRV and other rock, so it is largely a matter of what sounds good to you.
  2. There is one on eBay now. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3075857780&category=32861&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBBI%3AIT&rd=1
  3. I've been building my system for 19 years and counting.
  4. I guess I am raising two sons who will not be "normal". My six-year-old told me the other day that we need to get more speakers (I told him that I like the way he thinks). My three-year-old thinks that the Heresys are his. Neither kid will watch a DVD unless it is in surround audio. My wife is frustrated with all of us.
  5. I would be interested in any of the Klipsch technical publications (yes, I bought the "Dope From Hope" reproductions off the internet). There was also another publication call "Frequency Response" from the mid '80s. I don't know how long Klipsch published that, but I have about 4 of these that I received shortly after I bought my KG4s in 1985.
  6. I recently (like last week) bought the Mitsubishi 65" (WS-65713) Platinum series RPHDTV. For several weeks I looked at a lot of HDTVs including DLP and LCD, but I liked the color saturation, contrast and overall picture quality of the projection TVs over the DLP and LCD. I considered the Toshiba 65" but I think the Mitsu was better. The WS-65713 is the same set as their Diamond series 65" last year. This year's Diamond has a much less attractive and less sturdy cabinet. I wanted to place my Heresy center channels and a bunch of other heavy stuff on top, and at 350 lbs, this was one of the few that would allow it (it also has a 20" deep top surface). This set does have the DVI-HD digital interface, and it has card reader for JPEG, MP3 and WMA. The list on the thing was $4800, but I paid $3387 at my local HT Store, by far the best local price. This price was about what I would have paid on the internet including shipping. I am very pleased with the picture now that I have it at the house (the Superbowl in HD was fantastic). IMO for a 65", I would recommend a minimum viewing distance of about 11 feet. If your room will not accomodate, you my want to consider a 55".
  7. I just "upgraded" my center channel from a pair of KG4's to a pair of Heresy's (to match up better with my Cornwall mains). This decision was based largely on opinions and comments from members of this forum (thanks). I had been condsidering an Academy, but at over $600 on eBay!!?? no thanks. I picked up a pair of Herseys's on eBay for a little over $500, including shipping. They are truely in like-new condition, and sound absolutely great with the Cornwalls. My brother is bringing his Lascalas to visit in a few weeks so we can experiment with a single Lascala center - and other experiments (he lives about 5 hours from me). After that, I may change my opinion, but for now I am quite happy with the Heresy's.
  8. Does the ProMedia DD-5.1 have analog 5.1 pre-amp RCA outputs so that I can use it to decode the digital coax signal from my HDTV to the separate power amps that I am using for my HT set up? Can someone post a picture of the back of the unit?
  9. A pair of Cornwalls sold recently on eBay for $1225. They appeared to be in excellent condition, complete with original boxes and manuals.
  10. Scooter, That's a fine looking DIY center. What drivers are in it? Is that 3/4 birch plywood? What are the outside dimensions? I do have some basic woodworking skills and tools (table saw), and I'm pretty good with a soldering iron. An option to buiding something that matches up with my Cornwall would be to try Heresy's in place of the KG4's. I have plenty of room (see photo). If I replace the entertainment center with a big screen HD (looking at the 65" Mitsubishi) I may have to reconsider. It might not handle that much weight. Seadog
  11. If they are not already spoken for, I would like to buy the tweeters. Thanks, David
  12. I bought a TI-55II in about 1982 and had the same buttom bounce problem that Grateful11 described. I sent it back to TI for repair and bought an HP15C (best thing I ever did was to get rid of the "=" button in favor of an "ENTER" button). Anyway, TI finally replaced the TI55-II, and I gave it to my dad. He still uses it today, with no problems. BTW, I still have my TI-59 with a printer that I bought in 1979 for a small fortune. It also still works, including the card reader.
  13. That Academy went for $610! My inverted KG4's sound pretty good now, but if I can find a single LaScala or Belle for sale....
  14. Here is another eBay Heresy the "silver-white" woofer in one of the speakers. I emailed this seller to ask if all of the horns and woofers were original Klipsch. Seller said all had Klipsch logos. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3072533562&category=14993
  15. Check out the woofer on this eBay item. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3071584241&indexURL=3#ebayphotohosting Does that seem right?
  16. I have seen photos of Heresy's on eBay with either dark woofer cones or light (silver-white) cones. On one (matched) pair offered, there was a dark and a light woofer. Is there a difference between the colors? Are the variations a problem? Thanks.
  17. I have an opportunity to buy a Mac MX113 with an Adcom GFA-535L for about $700. How will this set up work with my Cornwalls? Is that a fair price for the two? Thanks in advance for your opinions!
  18. Thanks for the advice. After reading through most of the considerable number of posts on this subject, I think that what I am missing is the timbre that the K-77 and K-55 are producing in my '79 CW's. To be satisfied, I probably need something like a Heresy (or the custom by Hwatkins would probably do it!). However, I really would like to hear an Academy with large Heritage mains just to compair. For now, I will try turning my KG4's upside down to lower the tweeter to be closer to the listening elevation. They are currently upright on top of the entertainment center. For now I think I'll hold off on the Academy on eBay.
  19. Is anyone on these Forums using an Academy center with Cornwall mains, or does anyone have an opinion on that arrangement? I want to upgrade my center speaker, and there is an Academy now on eBay (Im sure most have seen it by now). Presently, I am using two KG4s in mono for a center; not a bad sound, but does not match the Cornwalls very well. Since the Academy appears to have only one horn, will the Academy be much of an improvement over the KG4? If the Academy is a good match I will bid, if not I will keep waiting to find another solution. Which brings up another question, would a single Heresy be a better match for the Cornwalls than the Academy? Or, should I keep holding out to find a single Belle or La Scala? Thanks in advance for your opinions.
  20. Single malt scotch is my poison of choice. For a lighter, smoother taste, try a single malt finished in port wine casks such as Glenmorangie Port Wood Finish (12 years old). The sherry-finished malts are also good, not too heavy. Some of the more distinctive malts such as Lagavulin (some may say full-bodied) are from the Islay region. The Orkney Island malts such as Highland Park are typically not as bold. Generally, I think that the Speyside malts tend to be lighter, such as The Macallan, which is a great whiskey for someone trying single malts for the first time. Also, a little water brings out the best in most malts, so try diluting it with different water ratios until you find the right mixture for you (I like about 30% water, with a lot of ice, which will melt thereby diluting even more). As for the high-end blends, I have a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue ($200 per bottle - it was a gift). It is incredibly smooth with a lot of character and a hint of a smoky, peaty taste (they claim that it is blended with malts that are over 60 years old). However, if I were going to spend $200, I would much rather come home with a bottle of Macallan 18, a bottle of Highland Park 12, and a bottle of Glenmorangie 18.
  21. I have been browsing and learning from this forum for a while without posting, so hello forum, here is my first post. In 1985, I bought a pair of KG4s shortly after they were introduced. Although I really, really wanted Cornwalls, the KG4s were more in my budget range (I never considered anything other than Klipsch when I decided to buy my first real stereo system after graduating from college). The KG4s that I bought were the store demos that I convinced the manager to sell (at full price of course) because at the time the demand for the new KG4s had created a 2-month backorder situation. They sounded great, except, at a certain low frequency in some LP cuts, a very slight, almost indiscernible buzz was present in one of the speakers. After about two weeks, I hauled them back to the high-end audio store where the store manager said he could not here this defect. I took them back home and called Klipsch. Two days later, a factory man from Hope, Arkansas was in my apartment in Fort Worth exchanging all four woofers in both speakers. He said that he could hear the defect, and that it was probably caused by some foolish customer or salesman doing something stupid in the store (these were the store demo units). He stayed for more than an hour, drank a couple of beers with me, and listened to my favorite music until I was satisfied. He said he was taking the old woofers back to the factory to cut them with a diamond saw to determine the cause of the defect. I dont know what Klipsch customer service is like now, but when PWK was at the helm, customers were highly valued. I have since acquired the Cornwalls that I always wanted, and I am a Klipsch devotee, both for the incredible sound quality and the personal service that turned a potential disappointment into a very positive experience. 79 Klipsch Cornwalls Front mains 85 Klipsch KG4s Center (enhanced by two JBL P20s) 90 Klipsch KG4s Rear surrounds Yamaha R8 (front channels) Yamaha R8 (center channel, mono output to four speakers) Yamaha RX-530 (rear surrounds) Yamaha CDX-730, Nakamichi CR-1, Technics SL-BD2 w/ audio-technica VS245LP Panasonic DVD-LA85 (using internal 5.1 decoder with analog output to the Yamahas) Panasonic 31 super flat screen TV (need to go bigger here!) (still looking for the ideal SW, and a Belle for the center)
  22. My two-year-old loved it. He keep asking to see "the pirates" again and again. The audio is great in this movie also (Cornwall front surrounds, dual KG4 centers, and a pair of KG4s for rear surround).
