  1. Very cool. Thanks for explaining all that.
  2. Sorry to hear. I met Gil at one of the Pilgrimages in Indy (2007 or 2008 maybe?). Super nice guy and a wealth of knowledge about speakers. Prayers for a recovery back to building speakers.
  3. It's been a tough year for the Forum. We've lost three members we could always expect to see again at the next Pilgrimage. First it was Kirby, then Dave Mallett and now Roger. Here is a 2015 photo with Roger probably telling Dave to stop asking to play pipe organ music on Kevin's massive KP-600 stacks.
  4. Nice looking Heresys. Just wondering, are there screw hole marks on the crossover board where the original caps were mounted? The current caps might not be bad, but it is inexpensive to replace them anyway just in case (unless you have a way to measure the values and ESR and they measure fine). I sure would listen and enjoy, new caps or not. I would not think that the oxidation on the outside of the tweeters would affect the sound.
  5. RIP Roger. I always liked chatting with Roger at the Pilgrimages. God be with his family.
  6. RIP Charlie Watts. I saw the Rolling Stones 4 times over the years. The first time was 40 years ago when Charlie was 40 years old and I was 21. I was amazed at how those old guys could rock. Time has changed my perspective on what is old.
  7. Article says they installed new laser welding systems. I guess the ones from 1938 were not working any longer LOL.
  8. Much too young to pass. RIP Dusty Hill. I saw ZZ Top open for the Stones at the Astrodome in 1981. Somewhere I have a photo or two (I snuck a camera in to that concert).
  9. My dad took my brother and I to indoor motocross races in a small domed stadium when I was 10 years old. I think my ears are still ringing some from that! I've been to concerts where very near the stage was actually not as loud as a few rows back where you get the brunt of the PA speakers which are directed over the stage and first few rows. I can handle higher SPLs when listening outdoors where there are fewer or basically no reflections. Distortion to me is worse than loud. As to what is concert level listening, I guess that depends on what concert, but I would say 90db with peaks in the mid to high 90's is enough for me to get the concert level experience at home.
  10. So sad to hear this. Dave was a great guy.
  11. So sorry to hear this. You were there for him when he needed you. We put our 16 YO poodle mix down last year, and it was especially hard on my boys who grew up with him. It will take some time, but the sadness will turn into fond memories.
  12. It was inappropriate behavior, outside of any social norms. That is all I care to say.
  13. Misbehaving at a Pilgrimage will get you banned from the Forum.
  14. I got my 2nd Pfizer shot on Thursday. I had zero reaction. It is interesting how the vaccine affects people so differently.
  15. Do you use BLO straight or reduced with turpentine (or other solvent)?
  16. Passing away at any age is sad, but at such a young age it seems all the more tragic.
  17. I ran across this and it seemed appropriate to post here: RIP Sancho. https://www.ngams.org/retirees/fallen-hero/capt-ret-kendall-payne/?fbclid=IwAR1FxQQiv3_y0y7_xNTgh85oMZLHTfhBTZC3kSQ87rGBWv0NXchG0PnfvCQ
  18. I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my sincere condolences. He will be very missed here on the forum. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
  19. I had a pair at my house for about a week (procured for a friend). They sounded really good, but my K-horns were better.
