My biggest concerns while our power was out were my freezer full of venison (at least 150 lbs of steaks, ground, and sausage), and my boat engines. My son and I put the meat in 5 large plastic bins and set those outside where the temp was single digits at the time. After the power was restored and seemed stable, it went back to the freezer. We cable tied the bins shut to keep the critters out during the two nights outside. When the power was out at the marina for two days (and obviously no bilge heater working), I made the somewhat treacherous (especially in the dark) 12-mile round trip to the marina every 8 to 9 hours to run the engines up to operating temperature, then turn off and come home (thank goodness for four wheel drive - way too cold to sleep in the cabin without power). The blocks and heat exchangers stayed above freezing, and seem to be running great. Many, many of my marina neighbors will likely have very expensive engine repair bills.

I left the water on at the meter near the road, and allowed the indoor faucets to drip throughout the great freeze. I do have the t-handle handy just in case I need to shut of the valve!

Thanks, fingers and toes crossed here! I suspect the pipes in the house will be OK. The outdoor spigots on the sides of the house were covered but I need to keep an eye on those when they thaw. Pool equipment and plumbing is shot. The ice sheet on the pool is 2" in the thinnest spots. I cannot even hack through the thick areas with an axe. Probably could have skated LOL.

It's still 22F in the DFW area now (Friday 9 am). We should see temps above freezing - mid30's - for a few hours today. Starting tomorrow the warm up begins, with Mon-Wed in the 60's. When the thaw starts, the work will begin. Hoping for no burst pipes in the house.

We've had this pool for 28 years and I've never seen anything like this!

Whoop, whoop! Power restored in my neighborhood a few minutes ago.

I hope I can say that in a couple of days, but with no power, I'm sure my pool pumps, filter housing and plumbing are history. The ice on the pool is too thick in some places to break through with an axe. I expect tile and plaster damage.

Carl, we have a small gas log fireplace in the den. Mostly decorative, but better than nothing. We still have natural gas service. Just hoping the pipes don't freeze.

Over 24 hours here without power. No word on when it will be restored. Current temperature is 2 degrees.

It was an easy decision when we saw the forecast. Fortunately, I have more flexibility to work from home. Healthcare workers don't have that option.

We haven't seen temperatures this low in north Texas for 30 years. We'll have near record snow on top of the cold. Fort Worth already experienced that horrible 100+ car pile up on Thursday morning that killed 6. My wife left home this afternoon to check in to a hotel near the hospital in Fort Worth where she works. She will stay there through Thursday to avoid the 22-mile commute in the weather that is coming.

The width of the K-horn at the corner is 22". The absolute minimum width of the seal will be slightly less than that, but it appears that your right corner is too narrow unless you use some sort of false corner.

Placing the K-horns on the short wall, while not ideal, will still work okay in my opinion. I've seen less separation where K-horns sounded good. However, the K-horns need to be snug in the corners to seal the base bins against the walls. Toe out is not an option. From the photo, the corner on the right, adjacent to the arch, might be a problem if the short wall is too narrow for the base bins to seal. Can you measure the width of that wall?

I'm no expert on kitchen cutlery, but my favorite knife is a Benchmade hunting knife made from CPM-S30V steel. It can be sharpened wicked sharp and it holds an edge. I have a 9" Cutco carving knife in 440A steel that I have had good luck with. I use it for slicing brisket.

That is a shame. The 5.5's are very good sounding speakers.

Pretty good. Still playing with them. I need to get them separated more. They definitely sound better loud than not loud. I think I'm going to like them.
