  1. Look on e-bay they are available there a lot or if you have a Good Guys around you might still be able to get the RC 3 II's there. Hope this helps
  2. Does anyone out there know of a source other than Klipsch where I could get the following: 120520 K-1130-AB WOOFER I placed my order a number of weeks ago and am being continually told they are back ordered. Yet new RB 15's are being produced and sold using these woofers. Klipsch has already billed me but has to date failed to deliver the product I have paid for. This really irks me. I have been a loyal Klipsch owner for 20 years. I am using these as an interim rear surround speaker and am becoming less and less attached to them as this ordeal plays out. I was told when the order was placed 5 7 days, which has since passed. I have been given two separate backorder dates so far. The problem with these is that one of them fell off of the couch while I was getting ready to mount it and the frame on the woofer broke on all four supports. I was also annoyed to find out the frame was made of plastic. It is becoming more and more obvious this is not Paul W.s Klipsch anymore.
  3. Re-posted in techncial questions where it belongs
  4. Thanks for the tips guys. I will wait until I get the ALK's first. I am planning on refinishing them and I wanted to do everything in 1 fell swoop. But I think I will refinish them and install the ALK's when I get them and evaluate further from there. R/Jim
  5. Does anyone know who manufactures the K 77 F tweeter driver Klipsch now uses in their Khorns, Belles and La Scalas? Or who manufactures a suitable substitute. Ive read where new High Freq drivers were available for older heritage series speakers and I was just wondering if anyone out there had some suggestions. I plan on getting a set of ALK Series A crossovers for my La Scalas from Al and am interested in upgrading the Hi freq driver to something a little less colored
  6. I feel your pain, I have a Nakamichi CR-7A Cassette Deck in need of repair and am forced as you are to send it to an authorized repair agent. Additionaly NAKAMICHI no longer provides support for the unit and only after market repairs can be performed. Mine is stuck in "near" auto calibrate mode and wont release. I spent nearly a grand on this when I bought it. I undestand technoogy progresses but these decks were supposed to be timeless. That is why you spend the big buck on them. Although Nakamichi's mechanical reliability has always been suspect. I had a 682ZX Cassette Deck I finally got rid of because it had a mtbf of about 13 months.
  7. D-Man good call. The flexing at the point where soldered connection ends will become weak - the soldered side would remain fairly rigid and the unsoldered wire would move thus weakening the point at or close to the end of the solder connection. Stress relief can be added by using some form of back shell or rigid tube larger than the wire itself. It would have to be secured (clamped) about an inch or so past the splice so as to allow for flexible wire to be on both sides at the point where the back shell is secures to the insulation. This would dissipate the force and friction caused by it and allows a splice to be used, but a single length of wire is a much better option.
  8. Heritage Series??? I've had mine (La Scala's) for 20 years and they still sound like the day I first brought them home. I have a number of friends who own them as well and no problems there either. Personally I think your freind is biased but that's probably because I am biased opposite his aparent opinion. As for a harsh sound ??????????. I suppose the pro-media series may have turned a few problems but melting voice coils I am not sure I buy that. Anyway your pride in your Klipsch is justified.
  9. I believe the Tweeter horn is a part of the faceplate assembly; it is on my RB 15's. If your speakers are still under warranty and it just failed arbitrarily I would assume it is a warranty repair. I would call Klipsch to verify it though. If you do have to foot the bill you can order the part from Klipsch directly at parts@klipsch.com .
  10. Yeah I know what you mean, I bought my La Scala's when I served in Japan for a great price roughtly 55% of retail.
  11. Well this is a touchy topic indeed, asking opinions regarding Bose systems is a somewhat volatile debate, but I will try to put forth my assessment as concisely as possible. I demo'd them (The cube system) at a Bose store. When these were turned up they sounded muffled and overdriven to the point I thought they would pop if any more power were put into them. They did not distort or reverberate unpleasantly they just muffled everything to an un-harmonized and uninspired over stressed midrange. There were a few moments that I thought they produced adequate sound but overall I though they were severely overpriced and under performing. One caveat is that I am no fan of satellite systems for anything other than you PC/MAC.
  12. I agree with most a room that big would show off a set of fully horn loaded Heritage series such as La Scala's, Belle or Klipschorn. I would submit though that my La Scala's do pretty well in the small room they are in. You may also want to look at a Yamaha RX Z or RX V series rcvr. Ay any rate it should sound great....I am jealous!;( Jim
  13. I would suggest PACE equipment for soldering but its very expensive. Temperature controlled solder / de-solder stations can start around $800 and go up from there but they are excellent for production work and have been used by DOD and Mil Spec operators for decades, especially on multi-layer boards and surface and dense mount componentry.
  14. 1. What Heritage speakers have you owned, currently own, or want to own? - 1984 La Scala's (currently own), 1986 Heresy II's. See below for my intentions. 2. What was your age when you first purchased a Heritage series loudspeaker? - 22 3. What is your current age? - 42 4. Why did you choose Heritage loudspeakers over another Klipsch model? - I have always been a Klipsch fan and I loved the sound, they were the Klipsch standard when I bought them. There were no other line of Klipsch speaker when I bought mine, actually they werent even considered a Heritage Line then. 5. If you currently own some Heritage loudspeakers, and could purchase some more Klipsch speakers(new or used), which ones would you purchase? - Klipschorns would be my ultimate purchase but that is not in the mix just yet. I have an RC3II center, a set of Heresy II's for surrounds and I have a set of RB 15s but I want to add another La Scala split into 2 sections for my center and another Heresy's for surround R\L\C . The other option would be a Heresy for my center instead. Why? - To finish my HT set up. I am going to refinish everything to match once I get my set up complete. 6. Do you think the upcoming Jubilee should become part of the "Heritage" line, since it was also designed by PWK? - Yeah probably. Thanks for your responses!!
  15. I have a pair of Laqered Birch La Scala's that are about 20. Their cabinets don't have the sheen they once had. Has anyone out there ever tried to refinish a set of Laqered Birch La Scala's? If so what did you use to remove the laquer and touch up minor dings with. Also I noticed on one of the upgrade threads that one of you procured a set of premanuafactured ALK crossovers, where?? Cost?? Thanks for all for the input guys I am now searching for the time to tackle this should be a rewarding if not challenging project espcially refinishing the Bass Bin R/ J.4knee
