  1. Damn - three pages, mostly derogatory comments, to someone who has lost her

spouse and is indeed asking far more than this model speaker sells for. Not sure why everyone gives such a damn. Should they sell for asking, great; if they don’t who cares, it’s no one’s business either way. I’m surprised Mods haven’t axed this early on, they’ve removed many topics for far less.
Let it drop - there are much better things to do with your time.

  2. Quiet amps (those with a very low noise floor) reign supreme with high efficiency horn speakers. Just because an amp is

horn quiet doesn’t mean it’s a good listen. Unless there is an opportunity to A-B a particular amplifier one might assume a quiet amp,

most any Class D,  is truly a good sounding amp. I owned Hypex nc400 monoblocks and Benchmark ABH2 at the same time. Both

being dead silent. There was no question (through my ears) the Benchmark was a much cleaner sounding amp, I believe the audiophile term is transparent. If you want a quiet, “transparent “ amp think Benchmark. Granted they are several times the price of many of

the above mentioned brands but hey, we’re talkin’ quiet amps, not amps based on price.

I also have several tube amps that are silent through big ol’ horns.

  3. I also owned a Torii IV and while it wasn’t the quietest tuber I’ve owned there was more “noise” going on than say my

ST35 or QS Horn Monos both of which are dead silent through LS and Jubilees. But there was no overt hum as you are describing.
The absolute forest of tubes on the Torii and enough background noise to annoy me led to selling it. Idontknow is right about the

Kenny Russell ST35 though, it is an exceptionally nice piece.

Are you done muddying the waters yet? They were a great speaker, a coworker of mine had a pair or them in the mid '70s. I still remember them.

That’s there’s funny. Ain’t a speaker he’s not an expert on. I heard rumor that prior to the passing of James B Lansing he had the foresight to name his famous tweeter “001”. Coincidence, I think not -

We pay enough, too much for Dish. Paying extra whether watching my home team or not I will Never pay the networks and NFL ransom money to watch football.

You haven’t found the right tube amp. The right one will sound fantastic with all genres of music and make you forget about solid state.

Not sure where this idea of “tube compression” comes from. Tubes breathe life into music.

“You haven’t found the right tube amp”.  Make your next purchase a quality shovel as you are about to begin digging a rather large, deep and expensive rabbit hole. You may run into one of us during your dig —

Yeah? Have you bought new, quality tires lately? It’s not pleasant. I’d much rather buy another amplifier.

My first thought was the F3 is a 2 stage but after looking at the schematic you are right single stage from what I see. It has been years since I built that amplifier. I still have the boards but used the case and PS section for another FW project. Nelson is big on less is better, fewer parts. The F3 is similar to the J2 and F8 in that they all use power J-fets.

I also had the J2 but let it go.  I’ve owned the F3 longer than any amp I’ve owned.  They are very similar although the J was bit more powerful , 25 vs 15 for the F.

Here is a schematic for parallel 6c33 tubes. A single channel with 3 tube... I don't know if it's for audio or heating your house.

Good find Marvel. And yes, it does keep you nice and toasty while listening. A two-fer I suppose -

I was listening to some jazz the other day and was curious, so I got the SPL meter out and did some calculations. My average power was @ 1/20 of a watt.

There’s a reason Nelson Pass uses the name First Watt for his “skunk works” amplifier designs -
