  1. No I didn't but figured the amp powers then as the tubes heat the buzz ramps up. So yes the amp has powerbit about 15-20 seconds after fire the buzz ramps up. Since it is not tubes I'm thinking a capacitor has gone bad but Mike at QS did not elude to that said he couldn't give a opinion until he has the amp. A little disappointed as I really like how the amps sound it I have several others to take up the slack. Thanks 'Heel
  2. Good on you 'Heel. But your semi-bad Kharma doubled up on me. Mine is definetly an amp. Swapped all tubes, then preamp, same issue. Got in touch with Mike at QS who said my description left him with no easy solution. So after the Christman package rush it's off to Quickliver for a fix. Not overly thrilled with this but they are great sounding amps. Still the sour taste has me looking for a solid state amp to have around, again! Back and forth, forth and back - it never ends.
  3. Lawyer man is right in that the Big Three evening news actually reports "news" of the day reasonably unbiased. I watch most all the others and get a kick how much they lean right or left. They have so much air time to fill news alone certainly won't fill it but opinions will. I get my chuckles with all of them and use some of the smarts I have left to glean real news from the manure that they spread. Their grass IS greener - well furtilized!
  4. Gotcha' covered - look up musha, then double it.
  5. Interesting thread although Dave lost me at "eustress"? Thank you Google!
  6. I would be beside myself too, what an experience to have while waiting on delivery of $12K+ worth of world class loudspeakers. But fear not #2 will be found in short order. Call the shipper ASAP and force them to have the truck line track the shipment. That is their responsibility not yours. For several years I was responsible for shipping manufacturing equipment either on several skids (Big skids) or containers from Europe. Technicians at the installation would call asking where such and such machine section was, missing from the rest of the shipment. It may have taken me a while but several calls/emails later they were tracked down and delivered. Of course I had the luxury of threat of non payment or short pay unless these damn parts arrived in short order as I had 6-8 techs on site at $$$$/day waiting to complete their job. Things are found quickly when thousands of $$$$ are being held. Good luck, enjoy your Christmas present(s).
  7. Hey Beachboy - I have to admit the Beachboy moniker put you living near sandy beaches but then I see a small town in Kansas. I'm just outside KC, Kansas side, and have a nice pair of oak Quartets should you be interested. They get little to no play at this point so if you are interested let me know with a PM and we can go from there. Sorry to hijack your thread but seeing your having difficulty locating the right Klpsch and possibly being around my vicinity I thought to offer. Thanks- Rich
  8. Although not surround sound in the technical term I have a Klipsch R-10B sound bar that includes an 8 inch wireless sub. I've got to say this thing is amazing for what it is. I believe the bar itself houses 2 each 2.5 inch drivers and 2 Tractrix horns. I've recently added a 70 inch to the downstairs cave and just ordered another from Klipsch, this time the bigger brother 20b with 10 inch ssub and four 3 inch driver and two Tractrix horns. Should ne here next week and I bet this one will truly rock. If you have any interest order now as they are both on sale for $349 and $399 with free ship, down substantially from normal.
  9. Well quickly found my issue. Replaced tube preamp with a passive, fired up the right channel and she's screaming like a newlywed on her wedding night! Guess I'll buy new EL34's for both block's and start fresh. Thanks a lot Tarheel ----- !
  10. I too have the same Quicksilvers. To clarify they are not tube rectified, the "third" tube is an input tube not a rectifier, 12DW7. Are you able to check each tube component seperatly? Use a SS preamp with the TT and the power amps? That would tell you if indeed one of those is an issue. Try to isolate each tube component from the chain individually might point out the culprit. With so many tubes in the chain it might take a while and several attempts. Something fun for a Saturday afternoon! Now THIS is unreal - I'm explaing to you what might be of benefit when at the same time I hear a loud buzz from my tube system and will do what I just explained for your system. I should have minded my own business !!!! Good luck to Both of us ---
  11. A1UC/downsizing = ? Is there a parallel universe where such a formula exists?!
  12. Where you be? That there is some of winters worst weather - good luck.
  13. ---- and now the animal rights folks are voicing their disapproval. Animal cruelty? Of course. I'm sure those do-gooders would have let the 'Roo strangle ther dog? Doubtful. Don't get me wrong I'm a softie for animals but come on people need to mind their own business. Besides, he didn't hit him below the pouch ----!
  14. I have single ended amps from Dennis Had, the late George Wright and Response Audio. KT88/66, 2a3DHT and EL84. Of those variants the EL84 might well be the most "well rounded". All do their thing quite well albeit differently some better, some worse with various music types. My most recent push pull Quicksilver Horn Monos at 25 watts could well be the most well rounded, neutral and natural sounding amps I own. I agree that for a very satisfying "hifi" experience single ended is hard to beat. But if you want a more "lifelike, club live experience, than for me it is the QS monos. I am not in a hurry to sell any of these amps but I have not listened to any of the single ended amps since the QS arrived.
  15. Hey Aaron - Alert Since you were/are looking for new KHorns a new ad just popped up on AudioGon - dealer demo 70th Anniversary in MN - $12,500. Betting they can be had for less - May be just what you are looking for -- ?
  16. That is a great looking machine; I'd leave it stock since the original owner did the same and kept it in such pristine condition. I venture to say you will decrease ethe resale value with power upgrades. And with an increase in HP such as you indicate one thing leads to another. Honda designed the drive train for that specific power +- a few horses. Reliability/drivability issues might follow such an increase in power. Leave it alone and enjoy some great Honda engineering. If your heart is set on Real HP buy a newer muscle car, one designed for whats under the hood. My 2 cents -
  17. ^^^^^ Them's goood eatin'! How's about dropping off a dozen KC way??
  18. Breakfast for dinner is a rarity for me and not a favorite. Growing up it seemed we only had dinner breakfast when someone was under the weather. Never been able to get past that memory. However I am all over breakfast for breakfast!!

    What I Got Today!

If this happened recently the PC police would have you up on harassment charges. And if she was younger, say a millennial, the boss would have offered her the rest of the day off or possibly some quiet time to herself, maybe some water colors or a coloring book. The poor baby --
  20. An astute salesman should know nothing is sold until a PO is in hand, period. Anything else is just talk. You know, the money talks bullshitt walks sort of thing. A good salesman is relentless and persistent but has to present in a "hi, I'm here to help you" manner with evidence and knowledge that proves as much. Depending on your industry rude and in-your-face tactics ain't gonna get it. When your customers are actually glad you made the effort to include them on a trip to their area and treat you like just one of the guys the battle is won.
  21. T M I --- but impressive none the less -
  22. Seems the root cause in all things sports and losing are the refs/umpires. Not the 3-4 hours of questionable play and play calling by those in the trenches. Hard to find a team and coach that played and coached a perfectly flawless game and lost to a refs call. Very similar in theory to the Green Party and Jill Stein challenging the presidential outcome, Jill was such a force in the election! Things didn't go their way so lets cry foul, bad refs. Bet all her children have trophys for never playing and finishing last.
  23. Yep, on all the above. Have basically the same amp, less the boutique parts, with a volume pot I asked Dennis to install. I go from KT88 to KT 66 with a change of rectifier tubes. Many other options with other rectifiers but haven't had the desire to find out. Dennis is great to talk with and can talk your ear off with some great stories. He's been building amps and circuits for both audio and ham radio since his youth so I'm not surprised that if he has the time can put one together in a day. A nice little "hobby" from his days running Cary.
  24. Well, I'm shocked. After finding something astray with my George Wright tube preamp (worked fine last time used, (today both speakers sounded like a transistor radio, no drive at all - ideas?) I thought I'd try the First Watt B1 buffered passive on my Quicksilver Horn Monos. And this after Mike Sanders of QS told me that due to the gain structure of the Horn Monos designed specifically for horn speakers that a passive Will Not drive them. Well the B1 drives them, and quite well, and with volume pots at only 9-10 o'clock. This exercise also showed me how quiet the monos are - as in graveyard quiet. And with the B1 with its L-R volume controls this is now a true dual mono system with one volume control for each amp. I'm giving it more time but the first CD sound every bit as full and rich, with drive, as with my tube preamps.
