Yes, how does the passive compare? I’ve had the NBS, it’s very nice. I don’t think a lot of us have experienced a passive preamp.

Although I asked the question I have used a couple three passive preamps. No doubt they’re quiet, black but very dependent on system matching. In general they don’t have the drive of an active pre. In general, not a blanket statement.
I’ve been using the Wyred4Sound STP preamp for several years in which the design combines both passive and active relative to the volume control. Active gradually ramps up with its perceived need relative to the volume input. Well built, resistor ladder volume control combined with huge cap storage provide a ton of drive and solid bass.

Just this week, I went from this beautiful 6dj8 NBS:

To this wonderful Passive Khozomo (WELL UNDER $1000):

while I am not going to retire the NBS, the difference between the two is rather astounding and eye opening. There exists a big difference between the two.

You left us hanging - what does the passive do that is astounding and eye opening over the NBS? Does the passive have the drive and jump of the active NBS?  I imagine passive  vs. active tubes the passive is quieter, a blacker background?

but he did chop up a Belle speaker.

    — Bingo. But you missed a key point - he chopped up HIS Belle speaker. He can do with it want he wants. Did what he felt best to match his $30k+ Klipsch speakers.
We just bought a new car last week where, as most dealers do, put a decal with the dealer name and location on the car. That’s great when the car belongs to them and their bank and is on their lot. But it’s mine after I pay for it and I don’t intend to parade around with free advertising. I’ve never understood why they think this is right unless they offer to pay a small monthly advertising fee. Otherwise, and yes, it’s removed.

  4. One can only speculate to the why but to delete a thread from the only member we know of that has ponied up to buy H Jubilee seems a bit heavy handed. Because he chopped up a Belle  to hopefully match the sonic signature of the Jubes? Oh well, the more deletions, the more pizzed off people, the more pizzed people the more people leave, the lower forum count the more reason to close it down. There’s certainly an end game being worked - don’t know, don’t care.

  5. And keeping with this topic, the thread from MBurg, who modified a Belle as a center for his new Heritage Jubes, poof, gone. The only member here that we know who has bought the new Jubilee, has a thread removed for modifying a Klipsch Belle. ‘Plain that one - no don’t. It’s becoming clearer by the day, er, by the purge.

That is what I was thinking my guess quite a few of us were biting our tongues not to point that out until Dean dealt with it diplomatically.

I agree some of it seems subjective but if we go by the Golden Rule of treat others like you want to be treated is a good start. To paraphrase Dean, "don't express an opinion without expect a response based on science."

I agree and wish we could go back even further but was informed that isn't going to happen. Otoh, folks should consider that this forum may end up being more trouble than it's worth and Facebook is the only alternative. Dunno but don't really want to see that.

If FB were to become the “place” to discuss all things Klipsch, count me out. I’ll just listen to the various Klipsch models I enjoy, don’t need to talk about ‘em at that point. I look at my wife’s FB page sporadically for shites and giggles.

  7. You mean like the “Dean crossover builder” thread that for no apparent reason was locked? I never saw anything even close to being inappropriate? Like most things in life there’s usually a method to the madness -

  8. Before jumping on the “crazy train” enjoy what you have for a while. It appears your investment has been minimal considering the performance you’re already having. KHorns aren’t requiring much push from the Cambridge.

Without question there is always something “better” around the next corner and better is usually in varying degrees. And one man’s better is another’s “meh”.

First rule of a loudspeaker purchase: Don’t buy an ugly speaker. :)

Something I keep telling myself every time I look at the “Underground’s” — . I always get over it -

  10. There’s a lot to take from those two posts and I agree, with some. For me one of the absolute’s I must have with the larger horn Klipsch speakers is silence, dead silence at the horn. Each and every Pass designed amp has lived up to this, as has Hypex, as has Benchmark. Benchmark and Hypex are two amps with the blackest background noise ever tested. They are absolutely dead silent. That doesn’t mean they sound good but they do, they’re neutral. Nothing added, rounded, softened. If it’s recorded it’s gonna be there. I cannot say that for many tube amp/preamp combination I’ve owned. But of course I have just scratched the surface so a blanket statement can’t be made for either-
