  1. To add a bit.... With the LaScala, you are "standing in front of the horn" With the Khorn, you are to a degree, standing "IN" the (bass) horn since it uses the walls of the room to create the final flair of the bass horn.
  2. Unless changed recently, they both use the same K400/K401 midrange and K77/? tweeter. The only difference is the bass horn. The Khorn 'requires' a corner (and will pressurize a room like no other speaker out there IMHO) and the LaScala (with a smaller horn) is more free standing. I went with LaScala decades ago to get the flexible placement. Later acquired Khorns as those were my dream speaker. Today, still have the LaScalas (among others) and sold the Khorns.
  3. I suppose that (unfortunately) rules out setting a K402 atop a LaScala (?)
  4. I don't believe so. I had a 200 and a 400. Same "machine" with the difference being the 400 had a plug.....why did it have a plug? So you could see the lights that were on the front. Both units were passive in what they did but they added some illumination to the 400. @the real Duke Spinner Dukester.... I think it depends on do you have the original or newer one? The 120 (I have a 120 X-DS that's not being used) is the newer version. It is a wide, skinny box. The (what I think is) "original" version didn't have a number on it unless they had it on the back. It was a 'dbx Boom Box" and was a bit of an odd size however, I found space for it. It either was or became the dbx 100. It is to the right of the Cassette deck. This was back in...... somewhere between 1980-1982 if I recall....had all this in my dorm room. You can see the LaScalas which I still have in the corner.
  5. If you however, decided to put castors on.... I'd not put them on (under/inside) the speaker per se'. Rather, I'd build a (roughly) 2x2 dolly and set the speakers on the dolly and have the castors mounted to the dolly. I'm guessing you would not have put holes into the speakers but I'd bet some have. Do you have/use a sub? If you had a sub, I'd wonder how much that gap would impact the sound. I'd imagine it would not be terribly expensive to find out.... you could simply stack a couple 2x4's to get the rise and see what happens. If you're ok, then buy the castors and cut the 2x4's to size to make the dolly.
  6. That be what we use. Wife has them in all sizes, from maybe 2" diameter up to maybe 8" diameter.
  7. Maybe I'll just fess up and show a picture of myself (in the Indy-500 thread) wearing a wicket set of whiskers on my face. Perhaps that will suffice.
  8. Speaking of the Indy 500... Nobody cares about this but 50+ years ago, when I was in elementary school, I was in 'Mini Circus' Ended up being a bigger thing than it may sound (there's a group on Facebook dedicated to it) We were in the Indy 500 parade TWICE. Here is yours truly dressed up as something someone needs to pay dearly for. (why were Cathy and I the only ones in these dreadful outfits is beyond me.... I/we were riding a 'bedstead' (each) where they fabricated essentially a headboard of a bed and turned it into a bicycle. (I rode a 10' unicycle in other events) My feet were probably 4-5 feet off the ground. You can stop and hold position while riding a unicycle.... you can't do that on the bedstead.... MUST keep moving or fall over. Cathy fell over leaving me the only bedsteader to finish the parade. This is during actual parade.
  9. If I were to be above board and honest, I read Macrotech as McIntosh. Perhaps it is I, that need to be flogged.
  10. The Flogging Crew will be there in about 67 minutes to give you the appropriate flogging of which you deserve.
  11. Pretty cool looking Technics! I'd think the only way to really know how it sounds, would be to hear them in your space. If you heard that setup at 'Bill's house', then went to 'Samantha's House' to hear same, you'd probably hear two different presentations, simply because of the room space they'd be in. My personal thoughts are, if the Khorns work in your space (clear corners for approximately 4' out from corner) then you're essentially good to go. I've always felt that changing the electronics is similar to adding different spices to your steak or soup or macaroni..... The base steak or soup (or whatever) is still there and adjusting the spices to taste is a personal issue (I happen to like salt for example, others may not) Under that logic, I've always felt the electronics might adjust the sound but the base presentation of the sound is going to depend on what speakers you have and how they interact with your room. I've had (on my Khorns) little 2A3 amps, 300b amps, several other versions of tube amps.... solid state McIntosh and solid state dbx amps. Heck I even had a Crown K2. NONE of those amps changed the impact of the sound as much as swapping the Khorns out for the Jubilee's. Rewording it a bit... yeah, there were subtle differences in those amps (as long as you were within the powerband of said amp) and obviously, the 400 watter would crush the output of the 8 watter.... but if you held them both to 8 watts, there wasn't as big of a difference. Speakers first, then electronics. If you are looking at new (and I have no idea what new Khorns cost) but I'd contend if you added the funds for both of those, got a pair of Jubilee's for yourself and used a pedestrian Crown amp (dbx and some other brands have 4-channel amps) I'd contend that you'd have a net better 'sound experience' than putting the extra cash into the Technics and mating it with new Khorns. Meh.... I'm rambling on.....I'm just a speaker hore (I'm presuming adding the 'w' in front will get the word censored)
  12. All closet, Helen Reddy fans say that in an effort to boost their street cred....
  13. You always have Marie Osmond to fall back on...
  14. No manual, it's not a laptop, it's a stand alone monitor that doubles as a signature pad. That said.....I have it! I just went ahead & drove into town. Took me three stops. I was unable to find a replacement cord per se', but, I was able to get a HDMI to (whatever it is) adapter. So bought the adapter, bought a HDMI line and it's now working fine. So it was a bad wire inside the cabling. One of the guys at store said they stopped making this something like 10 years ago under the logic that USB-C will/did replace it. It's nice having my signature pad working.... I only need it 10 times a day it seems and if it's cutting out on me, it really makes things difficult! (they disallow paper signatures)
  15. I think I've ascertained this is a Micro HDMI verses a Mini.... Reasonable?
  16. I think this is HDMI to HDMI BUT, one of them is SMALL. I have been to two locations and so far, nobody has anything close. Anyone able to conclusively tell me "ok, dummy...... THIS is what you need" I don't mind ordering it, I'm ok driving into town to buy it. Since I live 20 miles out of town, I don't want to drive in without knowing exactly what I need so I can verify they have it! It goes from my Laptop to an Asus "signature monitor" so I have a second monitor that I use and this provides the video signal ALONG with being able to (evidently) process someone's signature. I say evidently because it ALSO has a USBC cord (if I recall name correctly, SAME cord that's used in/on my Android phone) Anyway, I CAN get the screen to work with the USBC cord but so far, no signature. The USBC will also provide some power but ultimate, they told me to use both. This cord has frayed INSIDE of it so it's very touch & go to get it to work at all, not to mention to work 'properly'. I need to replace it.
  17. Call me a wimp but there's no way I'd want to take the sides off. I'd presume they were built to last (mine are circa 1979 and still going strong enough I'd easily stand on them) With my skillset, if I knocked the sides off, I'd do some other damage as the glue comes apart or maybe a finish nail in there somewhere.... As has been said, you did a fantastic job!!
  18. Perhaps you only get one speaker?
  19. Ignorant side question.... If his speaker is 'stuffed', why does the Cornwall only have damping material on (if I recall) one side and the bottom (or was it top?) Either way, only has it on two surfaces, not "stuffed'????
  20. You can always plump up the mice....and then....
  21. Forgot to mention, ALL of these (PDF's) are posted on the forum.... I'm not sure how to search for them so I just post them when someone asks.
  22. It's been around for a while, yes. In fact, I have same info for K402 on the LaScala, (Underground) Jubilee and MWM's. All created by Roy so not some mad scientist working in secret in a smoke filled darkened room. Or, maybe that's his brilliance? HE is the man working in secret in a smoke filled darkened room and his Mr. Nice Guy persona is a ruse??
  23. Here it is. Some comments though: 1. It's an active so you'd need four channels of amplification 2. This is the original one he did and it presumes the original driver, K-69 (or was it the K-69-A?) 3. If you use a different HF driver, you might likely have to adjust the settings on the crossover 4. Note the PEQ: -7 db's @ 148 Hz, this will take most/all of the resonance of the bass bin out and they will sound like they're playing deeper bass. 5. Forgot... the attached PEQ files were created on an EV (Electro-Voice) DX-38. If you use one of those, it's plug & play. If you use another brand (Xilica comes to mind) they use a different format...so you might have to figure out how the different input formats change the stated input value. The 'deeper bass' is actually already there, it's just being masked by the sidewalls resonating. It's a good fix. DX-38 settings for LaScala (1 or 2) LF with K402 & K69.pdf
  24. Just walked up there again with my brother in law and a tape measure. The White Oak tree has a bifurcation in it..... 30' from the root ball and it's (by eyeballing the tape) 24" diameter. THEN, each of the bifurcated sections are still large/thick enough for some extra goodies. This really is the one I've got my eyeballs on. Now that I know what the leaf above is, some of the other trees that I presumed are/were red oak.... turns out they are this tulip (Poplar?) as well. So there is a bunch of it. Plenty of widow makers up there too.... branches up high hung up.... couple entire trees that are leaning & being held by another tree. Company next door.... I'm out of town all week.... I think we're due for rain next weekend. Sigh, seems like it won't be until September that I'll be able to touch this stuff.
  25. It's already down. One of the niceties of owning an industrial backhoe/loader that will dig 15 1/2' deep or reach out something like 21'. There are maybe 4-5 other identical trees but this was the big one. We're looking to build a detached garage and these trees need to go. I'm about 1/4-1/3 done. Uproot them, take to burn pile and am going to be having a large weenie roast down the road. (I need to get it burning to shrink the pile, it's starting to get quite large with entire trees being put into it)
