    Dad's Engines

[quote user="dtel"Dad's actualy been through a music hobby phase.Back in the early sixties he built some Heathkit equipment and a pair of full range single driver speakers. So he's a pretty good guy to have around to bounce ideas off of concerning speaker projects and such.

    Dad's Engines

Dad calls this his pride and joy. It's a 14 cylinder radial aircraft engine thats pretty close in design to to the engines installed on B-17's.

    Dad's Engines

No Dad always says that if he had been a machinist by trade he never would have been doing this stuff in retirement. He's a mechanical genius and just got into machining as a hobby.

    Dad's Engines

This is a mini V-8. Dad designed this one from scratch. It's pretty much based on a small block Chevy.

    Dad's Engines

I was looking at the thread today about the worlds smallest V-12 and thought that you guys that thought that was cool might want to see some pictures of engines my dad has built since he's been retired. This first shot is of a 5 cylinder aircraft engine. All of these engines are built from scratch all parts machined in his shop. Some are built from plans. Others are from his own designs. This first one is from a plan.
  11. I'm running a Scott LK-48 and a Mac 225 on at the same time so I can switch back and forth with a Niles switch.I've got a reel to reel running to the Mac and a TT to the Scott. They are on at most 2 hrs a night. From what I've read here I'm probably alright in terms of excess power use. Thanks guys for the input.
  12. Has anybody here seen their electric bill effected by how long their tube amps have been left on?
  13. Step on a line.......break yer momma hens spine
  14. yeah I thought that was funny too. Typical Killer.
  15. Has anybody heard from Spongeworthy lately?
  16. Thanks Dave for the info and link. You do some pretty work.
  17. How would baffle step compensation affect the enclosure design for a 604 Great Planes Audio driver?
  18. Thanks Dave for the info and the link. What do you think about using Sonic Barrier 1/2 dampening foam on the inside of the enclosure?
  19. Heres one for all you speaker builders out there. When building a bass reflex enclosure assuming you have the internal volume of the enclosure correct and the ports sized correctly; how important is the actual shape of the cabinet?
  20. Like they say in Carolina....Ya can't hide money
  21. This is an interesting topic because recently a friend of mine drug out a couple of old Eico hp-50s that hadn't been fired up in 50 years. We put some new tubes in them and took a chance and plugged them in. We let them warm up and checked the voltage on power supply and everything seemed fine. We hooked a cd player direct to the amps into pair of Fortes and WOW ! It's amazing how good these amps sound after sitting dorment for so long.
  22. I think it's available on both. I've got the CD.
  23. Have any of you guys heard the new release of Exile by the Stones? It's got ten previously unreleased bonus tracks some of which sound pretty damn good considering they never made it onto an album. But the best thing to me is the sound quality that they were able to get out of the original tracks. I've always thought that Exile is one of the greatest rock and roll records ever made but the sound quality left much to be desired especialy played through big horns. I've been listening to this record off and on for 35 or so years and it was so cool to listen to this new version this weekend and hear stuff that I've never heard before. Old Buckster would have loved it. It's a shame he's not around to hear it.
  24. I've been wondering what a mono sound system using a single K-Horn would sound like. I would imagine that back in the 50's before two channel sound that a single K-horn mated to a mono tube amp would be considered state of the art. Could a set up like that be a solution for a limited space for a sound system issue today?
