  1. formica, do you think the BEST way to test out equipment is in a non-reflecting area(outside- 1/2 space)? Im thinking that in a few weeks I'll take my sub outside again and do a lot more testing. What do you think? only prob will be finding where to not disturb others. thanks, scp53
  2. i have to ask, how do your ava 18's sound? hope im not hi jackin this thread. scp53
  3. so, do you think its rotting surrounds? I can tell for sure that there is some SERIOUSLY low bass in that movie. Im not surprised you blew them. Your going to have to have exact replacements for best results. Putting an other odd drivers in there is a guessing game. Not only is that cab and port optimized for those two drivers but so is the amp(pretty sure its eq'ed in the circuits). Call klipsch parts to order new ones. good luck, scp53 Klipsch Parts Department Phone Number: 317-860-8100 Toll Free: 800-274-5547 E-mail: parts@klipsch.com ps- re-doing the surround is probably not worth it. you would need a special long-excursion surround replacment(and the coils might even be bad. bottomed and/or fried).
  4. k, got the tweeter magnet back on with tape and it works. however, the sound is not as good as the other tweeters. it doent distort at all but seems lacking in some way. i think the very very high freq is not there. klipsch, what are you gonna do about this for him? a new tweeter? whole new sat? let me know and I'll have him call tech support. thanks, scp53
  5. the tweeter on my friends 4.1's was completly dead. we pulled it and found the magnet off the tweeter vc and hanging on the mid bass magnet. can i reglue this? what can i do?
  6. so ones sounds fine the other crackles? seams like you have a bad voice coil. you can test it by pressing evenly on the dustcap STRAIGHT down(dont go too far though). does it scrap or does it go in and out silently? it could possibly be the sub amp(these are powerd right?) but i highly doubt it. let us know scp53
  7. I agree with the Ear. Actually, instead of using pure tones, id like to see some db numbers for movies. Theres a big difference between movie/music content and a single tone(not saying that sin wave db readings dont mean nothin though). scp53

    Ordered sub

Im sure you'll be very happy
  9. Amy, those subs look really nice. I look forward to some reviews. could you tell us what there going to cost? scp53
  10. I replied to this post the other day. for some friggin reason it didnt work so sorry for the late reply. i used a series of single tones when i tested. I walked around all the diff tones and got an idea of what had the most output that was reasonably flat. so is pink noise better? and i did place the sub where i thought it sounded best(with tones, not music content and such) when the sub was in my listen spot in the room. That worked but its still crappy. The output there is about equal to that outdoors at the same distance roughly. And i have a few more questions- 1- will those sine waves "build" if played for very long(like 5+ sec)? i have heard from people that waves can build. question 2- will 112 db output outside sound better than 112 db inside(in a room with NO rattles)? It seemed that outside the output was much cleaner at the same db level. any comments Rob or others? thanks, scp53
  11. I would also vote the titanics. with two(or one for that matter) you should get pretty decent depth for a sealed cab and tightness for music if placed right. I think that one 15" can displace about two 12 with same x max. Another option would be getting a pair of avalanche 15in drivers from ascendant audio and a 1000watt PE plate amp. Do you have the ability to do DIY? the two 15 would cost $300 each so thats $600. The amp will cost like $400 and a cab 50 with a nice finish. So thats will cost ya around $1100. each 15 would go in a 4cu ft box. just a thought. but other wise the titanics are the best option. scp53
  12. that 112 db reading was not peak. I could have pushed it harder but i have neighbors. When i say i have bad acoustics im saying the only strong output is in the corners. I did do the "old tick" but was using sine waves. Is pink noise better? and no, i dont have the ability to use true RTA. would bass traps be an option? thanks, scp53

    RSW 15 ?

that PC-Ultra will OWN the rsw15 on movies with real deep bass. The rsw15 is good till about 22-24hz or so. even if its corner loaded well it still won't go very deep. If your going to play mainly music get the rsw15. But i should ask if these are the only ones your looking into. do you have any other sub choices? if you want to get the MOST for your money id look else where before the rsw's(unless you can get a really good deal on one). scp53
  14. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DrWho- oh wow, that looks really nice...how did you get that kind of finish and how much did it cost? Very nice job. One thing I was wondering, was there any advantage to mounting the driver and the plate amp so close to the top edge? I suppose being near the edge would reduce panel vibrations... So how much do you have total into this sub now? --------------------------------------------------------------------- for the finish i used 4 coats of crylon flat black paint(can't recall exactly what it is) and sanded after each coat. then it was sprayed with 2 coats of clear laquer. the only problem is that it gets marked kind of easy. I set my rb25 on it because i have no stands and it left slight marks in it. You can't feel them at all but you can see it if the light is right. but even i you can see the marks its slight. i think it is almost fully dried/cured(laquer takes 7days i think). As for mounting placement i just put it that way. I followed a plan but you can do it any way you want. I could have put the ports in the back if i wanted to or put the driver downfiring, etc. And the plate amp is close to the top so its easy to reach and because theres a brace thats roughly in the middle of that back panel. And i have about $350 into it and it was worth it for sure. I need a different room though to really post my thoughts on it. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Meuge- OK, now stop upsetting that woofer and stick the PE 1000W plate amp on there : ) That should solve your clipping problems... but might lead you to use the sub as a demolition device. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Actually i have found that its not a clipping problem. My room acoustics are crap. So basically my driver can work quite hard and my nulls and stuff in the room kill its output so i hear mechanical nosies from the driver(which would normally covered up by high spl). I have put it EVERYWHERE pretty much. I have found that my corners build by ~10db compared to the center or near the center of the room. and actually i only have 2 corners because one corner theres a walk way and a stairs and the other corner only has 2-3 ft of a wall before it goes to another hall opening. Chad told me that 250watts is enough to give me all of its potential. He's clocked(with some thd) 120db+ at 40hz up in a field on a cement pad at 1m away. And at 20hz he got 110db in the same configuration. Those outputs were with out any amp clipping. I took it outside yesterday and got 112db with a county song with my sb3's at 6ft. It definetly had more to give. gotta go because im short on time. later scp53
  15. Well i took it outside yesterday and was clocking 112db at 6ft in my yard on a country song(it had more to go- like 4-5db more of clean output). I played part of another and then i figured that neighbors would get mad soon(even though i told them about my "testing"). So im pretty sure i have a crappy room. scp53
  16. thanks for the info DrWho., I think ill take it outside today. Chad(from ascendant audio) clocked 120db+ from 40hz and up at one meter on a cement pad in a field. He said at 20hz it was 110db at 1 meter. Those readings are max so they do have some thd. I would think i could hit 110db peaks in music clean at a meter in my yard. And as for build up, i walk from the middle or near the middle of the room to a corner and the spl goes up by ~10db. I definetly have some acoustic problems. Ill post back later after I have played the sub outside. scp53
  17. i have a ~13x ~15 with 8 ft ceiling but actually ~7 ft ceiling because we have panels(false ceiling). oh, and this room is in a basment with carpeted floors if that matters. from my experience, the overall response is bad(for the bass). i can place my sub any where in the room and it NEVER sounds good while standing near the middle or in the middle of the room. the response can be ok in spots but the spl is crap(and this atlas 15 can put out serious spl). i mean in some spots the spl is so little that you can hear the woofer moving(normally sound pressure covers up mechanical sounds unless its bottoming, etc). and in others spots theres a ton of build up thats not real equal in response. the room has two openings and has only two "real" corners that are opposite each other. are some rooms unfixable? what can i do? thanks for any help. scp53
  18. you can get it for $3.50 or so at a fabric store or craft store. The poly stuff at parts express is over priced imo(i think thats where you saw it?). scp53
  19. the 3 pounds will give it more extension(depth). its more of a personal taste thing. You can try it with and without and then decide. If you dont like it you'll be out $10-12(~$3.50 per pound). good luck scp53 ps- my avatar name is Scp53, not No Life lol.
  20. a general rule of thumb is 1 lb per cubic foot. so 3 pounds for that titanic. scp53
  21. imo, the titanic 15in is one of the best subs for the money except for a DIY sub. scp53
  22. ok, i finally got the pics! I'll give a reveiw in a day or so. scp53
  23. It doesn't matter what Klipsch makes next. They sell through stores and SVS sells direct. SVS will always be better for the dollar so in that area Klipsch can't compete very well. scp53
  24. jacksonbart, if you are asking if the rsw15 has depth to 20hz the answer is no. I beleive the output drops rapidly somewhere close after 25hz. And to answer the question about the titanic mk3 10in kit, yes its under powered. It clips like mad on music and a little in ht if pushed real hard(not real audible in ht). If your going to get one of the kits, the 15 would be the one to get. And if you were tied for money and diy wasn't an option Id get that 10in svs. If diy is an option Id strongly consider an atlas driver from ascendant audio. scp53
  25. maybe you want to consider a bass shaker? I have never dealt with them but others say there good for ht. But you would need some kind of sub to match with the shaking- I think it would feel funny funny feeling upper bass and not hearing it. just a thought. scp53
