  1. Rotties are prone to certain types of cancer. I've been thinking about going with a raw diet for him as there's a gereral concencus that much of their problems are food related. I plan on discussing this with my vet when he goes in for his next round of shots.
  2. Once you identify your problem, ALWAYS turn your amps on last and turn them off first.
  3. Thanks for the update. That was really bizarre. Did you ever check them with an Ohm meter? If they're not open, Id wager you could get them back up and running.
  4. What material is the white disc made from? It looks like it uses the friction between the disc and the wall to slow or dampen the mechanism. It's also possible that it uses the air escaping the chamber to do the dampening. Either way, it should fit tight to the brass I would think, does it?
  5. If you don't have room for a sub, I'd look at the Reference speakers. RF-5's have a relatively small footprint, have excellent bass and are very musical. Forte' II's fall under the same category. If you're thinking of going HT at a later date, consider what center channel you like when considering your main's selection.
  6. Good for you! Sucks about Adolph. How old was he? Adolph was 10 when we put him down. He was running one day and cut real hard (after a cat LOL) and yelped when he made the hard turn. We thought he pulled something. After a week or so of not getting better we took him to the vet. The first vet we went to just gave us pain pills for the symptoms. We thought it might be something more so we took him to another vet for a second opinion. Turns out that he had bone cancer that started in one of his front shoulders (why is it suddenly getting hard to type?). He lived a few more months after that as his shoulder grew. When he was in constant pain and couldn't function, we took him back to the vet for the last time. 4+ years later, it's still hard to think about.
  7. As far as I know yes, I've not read anything to the contrary. You need to try to swap wires in the speaker from one tweeter to the other and see if the problem follows the wiring (crossover) or stays with the driver.

    Integra

I have installed panels at all first reflective points in my carpeted living room (I have a tolerant wife!) as well as bass traps in 2 of the corners and panels behind the freestanding mains. The ARC software on my D2 still made a huge difference in the quality of the sound that I hear. Don't sell it short. I do realize that all rooms are different however.
  9. Keep us posted, I'm curious as to what you'll find.
  10. Another check would be to disconnect the wires to the drivers. Check resistance across the driver with an Ohm meter. If it reads open, the drivers are fried.
  11. He looked a lot different in Batman.
  12. If possible, switch wires from one known good driver to the other. Make sure you have 2 bad drivers and not 2 bad crossovers (unless they're wired parallel).

Another thought, I know you're looking for a minimalistic approach in receiver selection, but if you purchase one without room equalization software, you're cutting off your nose to spite your face.

You may not need or want a tuner, but I don't understand excluding a piece of gear because it has it. Oh well, different strokes for different folks. A pre/pro or receiver tailored to what your specific, individual needs are may be hard to find. I wish you luck on your quest. Carl
  15. There must be, they're being stolen at an alarming rate.
  16. Had a little time tonight. Mmmm grass.
  17. Pull the crossover and check the wiring. There's no scenario that makes sense to me as to why this is happening to two different speakers.
  18. Are you checking them with test tones or just music? Maybe they cover different frequencies like a tapered array.
  19. Does each speaker have HF and LF speaker terminals? If so, are the metal straps that go between the 2 sets of terminals there?
  20. You have 2 seperate speakers that are new and neither of them will play out of one of the 2 tweeters? Is that correct?

I use a radio and listen to HD stations from time to time on 2 different systems. I currently have 2 OPPO players and absolutely love them. One is a previous generation DVD player and one is a Blu-Ray player. They always work and have never given a moments trouble.

If you're going to spend that much money, look at the Integra pre-pro's and then pick up some good amplification.
  23. I'll try to snap some this weekend. It's hard as he's either passed out or going 100 mph, there's not much in between.
  24. Pete, I do some of the training but plan on having my daughters do formal obedience training when he's old enough. He needs to know that they're boss and what his status is in our "clan". Rotties are somewhat prone to pick up parvo so we'll be sure to keep him home till his series of shots are done. I'll PM you the info on where we got him. Carl
