  1. Depending on what price you ultimately pay for the RSW-12, it is closest in price to the PB2 ( unless you pay list! ). I think either sub will blend well with your speakers. Dollar for dollar, the SVS's are hard to beat for extension and SPL. The Klipsch should have a much smaller footprint which should be considered, if space is an issue. Carl
  2. See if this helps. Try lowering the sub output on your receiver and raising the gain on your subs to compensate. Carl.
  3. ---------------- ok I see, so I cant add anything to boost the valleys to smooth out the curve? Sorry, noob. ---------------- Generally speaking, trying to erase a null in the listening position can overdrive the subs amp. EQ's are best used to tame peaks. Carl
  4. An ART-351 is a relitively inexpensive EQ and can (with time) get you to + or - 5Db. A BFD can get within 2-3 Db but is much more complicated to operate. Also, you can try to tame a peak, but the valleys are most likely there to stay. Carl.
  5. Good luck sub hunting. Be sure that no matter what sub you ultimately decide on, that you spend some quality time calibrating the sub with an SPL meter and calibration disc. It makes all the difference in the world to the sound that you ultimately hear. Carl
  6. Great answers all! I appreciate the efforts and knowledge involved in all responses. Carl
  7. Often times I hear of amps/preamps/receivers sound as being "warm, thin, harsh" etc. I've heard enough music through various equipment to recognize the differences. My question for the masses is this. Where does the sonic signature come from. Specifically, in an amp/preamp combo, which componet has the most influence on what you hear? Will changing amps and keeping the same pre amp change the sound. Conversely, will changing a pre-amp and keeping the same amp have an effect? Which one has the most influence. I am thinking about seperates, but am unsure of keeping my current receiver and using it as a preamp (most economical route for now) or changing everything. Thanks in advance for the responses. Carl
  8. As far as how I have it set up, the only thing I would do differently is set your ft speakers to small also. You are not giving the sub any bass signal from the l.f. and r.f. speakers. Your SVS is better at handling those frequencys than your floor standers. You can ease the load on your ft speakers and amp by letting your sub have all the .1 duties. Try it and see how you like it, you can allways change it back if you don't like it. That's the fun of tweeking. Carl

    Aragon

Has anyone out there heard the Aragon amps (multi channel) with the Reference line of speakers? Anything you could compare them to? Just looking for general input. You'd think with the Klipsch connection they would tailor their sound to compliment thier speaker characteristics. Thanks in advance for the response. Carl
  10. I believe it is comperable to the STF-3. The Outlaw has ports on the bottom instead of the back and has about 25 more watts. I also believe Dr. Hsu designed it for them. Carl
  11. I'm sure that you've checked it allready, but take a close look at the jumper wires at the speaker hook up (the ones you can remove for bi-amping). You can loose half a speaker if they are not making good contact. Carl.
  12. I haven't seen these exact two models compared, but I have seen the HSU (Outlaw clone) compared to the SVS. The SVS had a very slight edge. They were so close that unless you did a side by side, it would be hard to tell the difference. Carl
  13. Sutter, I thought you sold your Axioms because your wife was sick. Is she doing better? Hope so. Are you planning to use your speakers primarily for HT or 2 channel? Are you planning on a sub? I would think that the RB's with a sub are going to be close to the RF's in sound, but I personally have not heard that set up. Carl
  14. Billa, I can't give you facts or figures on how or why. All I know that is with my RF-5's and 7's I was relatively unimpressed when I first got them. They weren't what I had hoped for. Sometime during the first month of use, they came alive. Again, I don't know how or why, I just know what I heard. At this point, you couldn't get me to trade them for anything, I love the way they sound. I still have both pair. I've heard the theory of your ears getting used to the way they sound but I don't buy into that. Again, no scientific evidence here, just my thoughts on the matter. Carl.
  15. I would spend the most money on the center chanel and sub. It appears that you have the bottom end covered with the SVS. The RC-7 works great with the RF-5's. The center channel gets the most work for HT. Also the SVS will more than take care of everything between 20 and 80Hz, so the selection of LF and RF isn't so critical. Carl
  16. Check out the STF-1 at hsuresearch.com They are an internet direct company and known for their bang for the buck. Carl
  17. I use just the stripped wire ends. The only benefit to using banana plugs that I can see is if you move your speakers frequently, then they would be easier to disconnect and reconnect. Depending on your run of wire, 14 ga. is ok, for longer runs 12 ga should be used. Set your speakers to small and set the crossover to 80 Hz. As far as sensitivity goes, if you set your system up with a disc such as Avia and use an SPL meter, you will tame the sensitivity issue. SPL meters are cheap and you need one to set up your HT properly. Get one! Carl

For my money, the 2 most important speakers in a HT are the center channel and the sub. The center channel gets the most information and is what you listen to 70% of the time when you watch a movie. A good sub is what seperates your HT from the run of the mill surround set ups that are out there. A sub you can feel and hear makes all the difference in the world when compared to a sub you can only hear. Carl
  19. I've had the 5's and the 7's in the same set up. When I upgraded to the 7's I kept the 5's because I liked them so much. They are now in my bedroom with a Carver amp and pre-amp that I use for 2 channel stereo listening. I have a subwoofer in my HT, so the difference in extension is not noticed as I crossed over both sets of speakers at 80Hz. The only difference noticed in the 2 sets of speakers with the sub was that the 7's are slightly fuller. With the sub off and no crossover set the difference in extension is very noticeable. BTW, I paid $700.00 each for the 7's at a brick and mortar dealer, but they did have to order them. Carl.
  20. I guess I'm fortunate. There are 4 dealers within 1&1/2 hours of me. I found one that would match internet prices and they were only an hour away. From what I hear, internet sales are a crap shoot at best and you end up with speakers warranted by the seller and not Klipsch. You will most likely not get serial numbers either. I have read of some positive experiences though. I might be tempted to find a dealer and make a day trip out of it, but then I like to drive and my company pays for gas. Carl
  21. I had those exact speakers at one time paired with an SVS sub. They blend perfectly. Box or tube subs are more a matter of personal asthetic (and weight) preference as they both perform very well. Carl
  22. I can't believe no one has answered a sub question in a day. Usually sub threads are hot topics. I guess I'll start. 6000 cubic feet is a large area to fill with bass. I trial and errored 2 subs (both too small) and then e-mailed SVS with room dimensions. Perfect match on the first try. You will find that sub owners are loyal to their brand, allmost to a fault, so take what is given with a grain of salt. Opinions are like a......., well you know what I mean. Good luck hunting, Carl
  23. I've had them both. RC-7 RC-7 RC-7 RC-7. I should also mention, don't get the RC-35. Carl
  24. I have not heard that particular sub but I believe it is an HSU clone. There are several articles on the web if you google it. Carl
