Nope, never heard of Herman Foster but he must be old like us! lol Gonna have to check him out now. Thanks for both the grin hopefully and for sharing the jazz. We're an equal opportunity employer in here so it ALL works. Bring it!
Just checked out youtube... He's jammin! Thanks!
You better hope I don't dive into jazz like everything else. 😂
Whoa that dude is great! You're evil I tell ya. Just plain evil!
Check out his playing with Lou Donaldson on Blue Note

I'm sooooo jealous of your fine, original jazz vinyl collection ! Cherish it!
40 years of collecting! Actually more like 30 as I’ve been pretty quiet the last ten or so

I only listen to Jazz and country/bluegrass/blues - 90% jazz. Never rock or classical.
Funny thing is I play in a blues / rock band

Saw Monk, Parker...etc. on the Ken Burns Jazz. As typical, can recommend as he and team taking the time to cover historically the jazz movement in a professional way. Another segment this week on PBS...
It was a good series, there was way too much time devoted to Louis Armstrong - Burns should have done a separate 6 hour doc about Louis. Way too little spend on the 50s and 60s.

I use one with 1974 Heresys as my TV speakers - sounds great. Not sure I’d listen to music however

td124 idler wheel of rim drive
td125 belt drive
not sure which sounds better
but maybe Allan can give us a breakdown .. or his thoughts idler vs belt...
The TD-124 is the best turntable I’ve ever owned - it has a bold, dynamic in-your-face quality that Ive only heard from other idler wheel tables (Garrard 301, 401).
The TD-125 was Thorens’ leap into the modern in 1967 and the build quality is really something else - it sounds a lot like all good suspension tables - maybe quieter and maybe even more accurate but also sounds downright restrained when compared with the 124. I set this one up for the Tarrantino film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (I did all the HiFi stuff on that film). When the film wrapped they gave it to me and I set it up in the desert. It’s a good table and at $800-$1000 in good shape it’s a bargain.

Allan is not holden out on the td125..
what else is he not sharing?
The TD-125 is at my place in the desert where I’ve spent much of the Covid crisis riding it out - along with my old Fisher 500C and the Metregon. The TD-124 is in my main system with the McIntosh stuff (MC-30s, C-22, MR-71, MI-3) and the 1961 vertical horn Cornwalls (which sound BETTER to me than the Metregon).
Both systems are great - just very different.

My 1962 vertical Cornwalls have been in my main system for over 30 years. I will never replace them.

I made the stand - the speakers just slide in from the back but they look built in. t’s a very practical setup for me, as I don’t need surround sound or subwoofers. The NAD really sounds great - especially through the OPPO with a good DVD or Blu Ray.

That’s a plinth- BEAUTIFUL!!
But you’ll still need a tonearm board! Maybe you’ve got one in a box over there- seems like you keep finding some pretty great stuff!
Look for one of these:

I’m not of the opinion that elliptical is better than conical- but It’s a fair observation. I play mostly 1950s and 60s LPs and I think the conical is way more quiet and forgiving and I don’t hear any loss in detail. Maybe if you’re spinning new records the elliptical would be a better choice. In any case , the SPU is the pinnacle!!!!
