  1. They were majoring in Public Diplomacy - however the wife would not accept them into the family room or any other room for that matter, so they stayed in my Man Cave. They did serve me well in negotiations during the divorce, so there was some pay off for their education. Now, in my home where there is no more wife to win over, they are king of the family room and there they will stay. Whoever the next lady suitor might be, will just have to accept it or she will find herself PNG.
  2. I bought a pair of pristine oak Chorus II's for a good price back in 2006 and then proceeded to upgraded the xovers and they went unused because I was able to find a pair of KSP-S6's to serve as my surrounds. So, my poor upgraded CII's went unused for over 4yrs. Now, they are my mains in my family room and get almost daily use. I'm loving what I'm hearing from them and am glad that I never let them go. I use them when I watch movies (in stereo) and with music (iPod -> tube preamp -> heavily custom modified ICE amps). I'm one happy Klipsch fan! I still use my all Legend series speaker set-up for my dedicated HT. And the icing on the cake are my Frazier Monte Carlo D's for my bedroom set-up. MAN, am I a happy camper!
  3. What is the optimal placement from side and back walls with CII's?
  4. Keep your KLF-20's they are excellent speakers. Do yourself a huge favor and get one of the guys on the forum to upgrade the xovers. It will completely transform how they sound (for the better). Next, get tubes somewhere in the chain. Klipsch and tubes are heaven. Do these two things and I think you'll never question why you should spend more unless you've just got extra money to burn.
  5. Definitely a FAN of Sunfire and Klipsch (see my signature). I've used my Sunfire amp with my KLF-20's and Chorus II's, same great results. The synergy is great and the sound is fantastic. HT just rocks and goes way louder than I ever would want to go.
  6. What is the difference between the Ti diaphrams that Klipsch sells and the ones that Crites sells?
  7. For many Klipsch speakers, people say they are on the brighter side. I think the best way to resolve this is with tubes, at least that has been my experience with my KLF's and Chorus speakers. For your situation, I would recommend a tube DAC for the cheaper route to insert tubes into the chain. The more expensive route is a tube preamp. For example, I'm selling one of my tube DAC's for $250, a cheaper option than (but not better than) a tube preamp like the Juicy Music tube preamps.
  8. You should consider tubes somewhere in the chain. Since you want to keep that solid bass, then I would suggest a tubed output CD player, tube DAC or tube preamp (use the Denon 2808 as the amp). Tubes are what you are missing to get some really beautiful sound.
  9. It really depends on what is your priority, 2ch or HT? If HT is a lower priority, then the Denon 2808 should be more than enough power. If 2ch is the priority, get yourself a 2ch tube amp. Considering your budget, you've got plenty of options: - Sunfire (both 2ch and 5ch) are in that range if you go Cinema Gran - JWN tube amps, incredible value (price/performance) The list goes on.....
  10. How much do they run? Are they pure silver or or silver coated copper? Have you noticed a change in sound from your previous cables? If so, what were your previous cables?
  11. I love my KLF-20's & C7 for HT. I'm using my KSP-S6 for rears but have thought about trying my Chorus II's, since my KSP-S6's sit right on top of them. For many reasons I can't change my KLF speakers out for something else but I'm lucky because I have no desire to. DeanG upgraded my KLF-20 xovers, my C7 has the full "popbumper" xover and all diaphrams have been changed to the titanium versions. For HT, I do let the LFE goto my RSW-15. I watch movies with happiness and enjoyment. Klipsch forever!
  12. My KSP-S6's surrounds sit on top of my Chrous II's right now. I wonder what it would sound like if I changed to the Chorus II's as surrounds and kept the 20's and C-7 up front for the mains and center? What do you guys think?
  13. I have a KLF HT set-up and just love it. I use 20's for the mains, C7 for the center and S6's for the surrounds. I've personally never heard the RF-7's, so I can't comment on how they compare. I would say that I prefer the 3-way speaker vs. a 2-way design. I would like to hear them side-by-side one day. For now, I'm very happy with all Klipsch and a new member of the F.U.G. with my Monte Carlo D's.
  14. Get a JWN tube amp and thank me later (google "JWN amps"). Jim Nichols make tube amps on the side, his day job is an electrical engineer. I bought one of his amps because of it's extensive features and low entry cost. Great guy to talk to and knows how to build solid tube amps. Here's my review from Audio Asylum: "I’m writing this review after a recent purchase (second hand) of a tube amp from a very low-volume, custom builder. Prior to my purchase, I had never heard of or read anything about his offerings. I bought the tube amp for several reasons: reasonable cost, quality of parts, extensive feature set, and the ability to switch between outputs: speaker terminals and a built in ¼” headphone jack. A little bit of background on my limited exposure to tube amps that I’ve had the pleasure of having in my 2ch system. I’ve had two completely refreshed/rebuilt vintage push-pull tube amps in the form of an EICO HF-81 and a Scott 222C. I owned a John Hogan 6sn7/27/2A3&45 SET amp and still own a John Hogan 6sn7/76/300B SET amp. All four of these tube amps were a true eye-opener to how great music can sound with a tube amp. It convinced me that tubes need to be somewhere in my 2ch system from now on. My current configuration: - EAD CDP (custom modified) - Audio Mirror DAC (modified by TRL) - Tube Technology Tube Preamp - Promitheus Transformer Buffer - JWN 6AQ5 Tube Amp - Meadowlark Swallow 2-Way or Klipsch Chorus II - Audio Magic Matrix (modified by Audio Magic) - Two dedicated 20amp circuits for audio equipment only My 2ch system has come a long way, both in the quality of components and in the complexity of the system. I think that each component elevates the performance of the system and careful thought has gone into each component and what benefits and synergies it brings. Prior to inserting the JWN tube amp, I was rotating through a number of other fantastic amps that I have. Two are chip amp from the genius of Stan Warren, one ICE-based pair of custom mono-blocks from Audio Magic, and my John Hogan 6sn7/76/300B SET amp. Each one of these amps are truly exceptional in my book and are keepers for the long haul. So with this level of incumbent amps, I was not too sure how the JWN tube amp would fair. I’ll get right to the verdict – FANTASTIC! What a great little tube amp, it just makes music sound very good. I will not be letting go of this tube amp! The combination of being able to produce music that sounds very good, reasonable cost, quality of parts, extensive feature set, and the ability to switch between outputs: speaker terminals and a built in ¼” headphone jack. All the reasons of why I bought it were validated and it delivers on the reproduction of music. It clearly is both complimentary and commensurate with the rest of my components. The sound is rich with a soundstage that has plenty of air and separation between vocals and instruments, details, layering, and good extension on top and bottom. Bass is strong and tight, better than what I’d expect to hear from a tube amp, midrange is real and present, and the highs are clear yet not offensive. All together, a very coherent and involving sound that captures and engages you. I would recommend that you consider a JWN amp if you want a tube amp that delivers in spades – price/performance."
  15. What size room are we talking about? In my room (15' W x 20'L x 8'H) my KLF-20's are more than enough with every tube amp I've run them with. I've run my KLF-20's with 2A3, 45, 300B, and 6AQ5. So, from as low as 1.5watts to 12watts and they sing as loud as I can take it. I think 40watts in tube form is going to give you plenty of power and headroom to run it loud and have enough headroom to keep the bass strong and tight.
