  1. Here are a few pictures of my 1979 Heresy's that CAKE refinished in Brazilian Rosewood for me. These pictures really don't do these speakers justice...they are truly gorgeous! Ty did a GREAT JOB on the veneer. Here's what they started out looking like: And after new veneer: The pictures above are a little deceiving…the speakers aren’t actually as red as they look in these photo’s. Here’s a shot so you can see what the finish looks like indoors
  2. mungkiman, I have a pair of original Pie Logo's but the gold paint is worn off in several places. Could you tell me the brand paint pen you've found works best? I'd like to restore these original badges. Thanks in advance!
  3. I have a question for anyone who may have some experience with the Denon AVR-3600. I have been using this receiver to power my Belle's. I just purchased some LaScala's and I would like to do some A/B comparisons. Does anyone know if I can do this with the 3600? I purchased the Denon 2nd hand and don't have the manual. There are two front channel inputs A and B, but from what I can tell this is for bi-wiring and I can't find any way to switch the outputs. Any suggestions besides to get some better equipment? ;-) Does anyone know where I can get a digital copy of the manual? Already tried Denon and they only have a spec sheet online. Thanks in advance! Seth
  4. I have two pieces of audio equipment that I'd like to get repaired. I have a Carver CD player (5-disc) that is no longer working and a subwoofer than needs to be reconed (the surround disintegrated). Does anyone know any reputable places in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Houston area where I can get either of these fixed? Thanks in advance!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Seth
  5. As a young boy I was "in love" with Stevie Nicks so this one was always one of my favorites:
  6. I recently picked up a Velodyne ULD-15 II for a steal ($250). I purchased this to complement my Belles since I was so spoiled with the massive amounts of bass my Forte II's put out. I'm using the Velodyne with a HK930 and I have a question about how I should hook everything up. The HK930 has preamp outs and power amp ins and the Velodyne servo has preamp ins and power amp outs...piece of cake...hook the in's to the outs. Well I noticed that when the Velodyne servo is turned on the the volume of my mains jumps up significantly so my concern is that the Velodyne servo may be "coloring" the signal some because the Belles sure do sound brighter when the servo is on (it may be my imagination though). My questions are first has anyone experienced any "coloring" when running the signal through a Velodyne ULD Series II servo. Secondly, could I Y the signal coming out the preamp outputs of the HK930 and loop them directly back to the power amp ins, essentially bypassing the Velodyne servo for my mains??? Seth
  7. I've been busy the past week so I haven't had a chance to go by Radio Shack to get the cleaner, but I was able to turn the control many, many times and much to my suprise, the rough feel and all the scratchy noises from inside the pot are almost completely gone! I hooked it back up to the speakers and there are still some problems on the bottom end of the volume range with one channel fading in and out. I'm thinking that the cleaner may just do the trick!!! I'm hoping to try cleaining the pot this weekend. I'll report back with my results. Thanks for everyone's help.
  8. And I thought I found an unbelievable deal when a few days ago I picked up a Velodyne ULD-15 II for $200 on craigslist! I can't complain through because I have had some pretty good luck picking up parts of my system for quite a steal. Pair of W/O Belle Klipsch: Free!!! Pair of O/O Forte II's - $250 HK430 - $40 Walnut Velodyne ULD-15 II - $250 Now all I need is a nice, working tube amp for around $50!!!
  9. Are we talking pots or prophylactics here?! [] Have you tried the standard 'turn the volume knob all the way up and down 50-100 times with the power off and amp unplugged' trick yet? LOL! I haven't tried that, but I'll give it a shot although I don't think it's going to help much...something is broke in there. You can hear all this scratching and poping when you move the volume control.
  10. I haven't tried cleaning it, but I don't think that cleaning it will help. It isn't just dirty (I know what that sounds like b/c my HK430 needs the pots cleaned). When you turn the volume control, you can hear what sounds like a needle dragging across metal and you can hear it catch on something every once in a while. When actually playing when you turn the knob, the sound shifts from one channel to another and when you feel the needle pop free the volume jumps drastically.
  11. I haven't spoken to anyone at Alps, but I searched their website and couldn't find a potentiometer that resembled the one I have...they didn't even have any with a knurled (sp?) shaft that would fit the knob I have.
  12. That's right my volume pot is shot!!! Has anyone had any luck finding replacement pots for these old HKx30's??? I've already contacted Harman Kardon and they no longer sell the volume control for these antiques which is no surprise really. I know that it's a 100k ohm pot and the brand is alps, but I don't know any of the other specs (wattage, audio or liner, etc). Can anyone point me in the right direction or does anybody have an old non- working HKx30 that they could sell me the volume pot out of? HELP!!!
  13. Anybody every heard of them? Some locally is selling a system including a Perreaux amp & preamp and I'm wondering is anyone has any experience with these.
  14. I really like the way my Forte II's sound with my Harman Kardon HK430 and the best part is I only paid $80 for it!!! The entire line of Harman Kardon Twin Powered receivers (HK630, HK730, & HK930) are supposed to sound just as good. Also my speakers sit on padded carpet over concrete and I heard a big improvement after adding spikes...total cost $10!!!
  15. Man, I already have plans to go see Powerman 5000 & Wicked Wisdom @ Scout Bar tomorrow night. Shoot me an email next time you guys play, I love Queensryche!!!
