It was a good show, I enjoyed it. I am not sure it meets my "owning" standards. D-Rex
  2. I come here to get the best speaker advice possible, regardless of whether or not Klipsch is the recommended product. It just so happens that people like alot of subs besides just Klipsch and I, for one, appreciate all of the various subs discussed! D-Rex

You can leave the composite jacks in place since they carry the right & left audio downmix but you will not need the yellow one if you are feeding signals into your receiver and TV via an S-VHS connection. ---------------- That makes sense, hence the word 'Video' in the name... yes I am a bit slow at times... Thanks, Dallas
  4. Thanks, all of you have been very helpful! I have one more question. I connected the DVD Player and Receiver together with an S Video cable because I thought that would create a digital connection. Did I need to disconnect my A/V cables completely for that to work or is that not a function of the S Video connection?
  5. ---------------- On 9/26/2004 6:10:43 PM MrMcGoo wrote: The digital cable or Toslink that transfers the Dolby Digital 5.1 bitstream to the receiver will also tranfer the DTS bitstream. Your receiver should automatically decode the DTS bitstream. Be sure that the DVD player has the DTS logo onits front and that the DVD player's setup menu has DTS set to bitstream. Bill PS: Not all Apex DVD players handle DTS per the Apex Digital web site, so look for the DTS logo on the front of the DVD machine. No DTS logo, no DTS. B ---------------- The Apex player does have the DTS logo on the front. I have my DVD Player, Receiver, and TV all connected together with red/yellow/black RCA cables. Dolby Digital does come through those just fine so are you saying the DTS should work through those fine as well?
  6. I think from perusing some of the answers on previous DTS questions I have determined that I don't have the digital connections that is required to make DTS work. So, can someone tell me if all I need is a digital connection from my DVD player to my Receiver or do I also need a digital connection from the Receiver to the TV. I have an old TV from around 1993 that doesn't have a digital connection. So, can I play my DTS formatted DVDs with a connection upgrade on my DVD to Receiver to digital or am I stuck until I upgrade my television? D-Rex

The problem is that I really don't even know what I paid for it, since I got a single package price for the RF5/RC35/RS35 set when I bought them. How about $200 plus shipping (or best offer) from Zipcode 70002. Although I have all of the original packaging, I'd feel better if I double box it, unless it's a local pickup. I don't know if the Klipsch warrantee is transferrable or not. If it is, I will provide a xerox of the original receipt to the buyer. Again, it was purchased from a local authorized dealer. Dave ---------------- This is a more than fair price if someone is needing an RC-35 speaker, IMO... I do think the warranty will transfer also.

I will admit he is trying to convince me to purchase a Polk system as well so we will get a better deal through the local dealer, He has offered us a good price on a full Polk system, consisting of R-50 fronts/CSi3 centres (F & R) and a pair of FXi-3 surrounds and a PSW-505 Subwoofer. But like I said I'm still not convinced by Polk, I don't know why as I have heard there car speakers and there were impressive (I use MB Quart in my car now and they are impressive) But I'm torn, I like the Klipsch, but the thought of a Floor stander fronts and a 12" sub for my system makes me think the Polk option may be better, And the reviews for POLK seem pretty good. Am I turning to the dark side of the force? Oh enlightened members of this Forum, Please guide me towards the path of sonic truth. ---------------- Why can't you both go into your Klipsch and try to work a better deal because both of you will be buying? That is not my commentary against Polk becuase I have no opinion but maybe just an option for both of you to get the opportunity to own Klipsch speakers.
  9. I am looking at buying from Amazon.com for around $42 with free shipping. My local BB and Wal-Mart both have it for $44 but I would also have to pay taxes... Dollar saved is a dollar earned...

That makes sense. Lucas can do as he pleases! I guess we can all make do with the DD versions!

Wow, what a breath of fresh air it has been to actually hear the song/music and forget that you are trialing speakers. Ok, the problem I have is that my local Klipsch dealers only stock up to RF35 mains and I would like some input on whether there is a significant improvement in two channel listening with the RF5 mains over the RF35 mains as it looks like I will not be able to audition the RF5 and RC-7 in person? thanks. ---------------- My wife recognized a noticable difference between the RF-5s and the RF-35s. I noticed it as well but I couldn't justify spending the extra $$$ for a somewhat nominal increase in volume. Now, I assume the RF-7s are a significant step up but, when I listened to them it was hard to tell since they had it in a dedicated theatre room with an RWS-15 pounding you. It was great when they had Minority Report playing with waves of bass blowing you down.

    Star Wars Trilogy

Is the upcoming release of the original Star Wars Trilogy too old to be encoded in DTS? I am wanting to purchase it when it comes out but I don't understand why it doesn't have the DTS format.

As a result, they can appeal to a wider audience and thus possibly make a few extra bucks. I am not a proponent of extra violent films but, when the movie calls for such then it should be made as such.

  19. Okay, I know I have one of the cheapest DVD players ever on the market and I will certainly try and get it replaced as soon as funds are available but I seem to have a problem with playing the DTS surround settings on my DVDs. Last night I went to watch The Passion of the Christ in DTS surround and there was no sound. When I changed it to DD it played fine. So, I need to find out if the problem is my cheap APEX player (which has DTS on the front of it as if it does have the ability to play this format) or is it my Denon 3801 which I purchased off Ebay. I put Titan AE in and tried to play it in DTS and it didn't play either so I know it wasn't just a problem with the DVD, as remote a possibility as that would be. So, what do I do to test this kind of problem?

I have tried, rubber cement thinner, OPPS, GOO GONE, GOOF OFF and rubbing alcohol. All I have done is rub the black finish off of the wood, resulting in spots of bare wood. PART 2 Has anybody touched up this type of finish used on these speakers? I am told by Klipsch, that this finish is: 40 sheen black lacquer. Thanks ---------------- I have found when I am trying to remove glue residue like that left by tape it is often most easily removed by simply using another piece of tape. I wouldn't recommend using another piece of electrical tape but a piece of extremely sticky masking tape might be perfect. Otherwise, try a small piece of duct tape or even scotch tape. Place the tape over the adhesive residue and then quickly pull the tape off. It will usually remove some of the glue so that after repeating the procedure a few times it will have removed the residue. Try it and let me know how it works. Just fyi and along a similar line of thought, if you ever have marks made by a permanent marker that you want to remove, try taking a dry erase marker and color over the permanent mark then whipe it away with a cloth. This may still leave a black haze around where the mark was or it could even just make it smudgy depending on the surface that was marked but it might be worth a shot.

I have to echo the feelings of most 30+ (in age) guys here. I know there is alot of fun in "talking" to others on-line about things you like, i.e. Klipsch speakers, but you are too young to spend too much time here with us! You have so much growing to do and there are so many girls that you will go through during this time that your head will spin. When I was 17 I got upset about the break-up with a girlfriend that I felt like the world would end. I haven't let that happen again because it doesn't take long to realize that, when your that age, life is about experiences and certainly isn't about "settling down." You will have plenty of time to find that "life partner" so just get out there and be happy because you will have plenty of time after college to be miserable! Good luck! D
  24. Thanks for the feedback. By OEM I'm assuming you mean the components and not the cord--just making sure. The female end does indeed fit into the socket though it's not as tight a connection as I would have hoped! Thanks again! ---------------- OEM is the original equipment manufacturer.
