Every little bit helps. ---------------- Do you think one can walk into Ultimate Electronics and leave with RF-5's at a 25% discount or do you think I woudl just have to wait and watch for a sale... Is it like the "sticker price" on a car?
  2. It sounds to me like Black would go best with your color schemes but, the cherry are some pretty speakers. But, my final vote would go towards getting the cherry and then hoping you get the matching carpet and/or furniture later.

Everything you see in my profile has been puchased since sept/oct of last year!!! Kudos to my wife, but how much can a woman take?!! Those RF-7s at $900 look awefully tempting though... David ---------------- The question isn't how much is too much (because even 'enough' is never enough therefore too much simply doesn't exist.) It seems you and I are similar in another respect. How much can a woman take is the correct question. My wife flipped a gasket on me because I made a judgement call without discussing it with her. Ultimately I think it will be the right call because I was on the verge of over-extending my audio budget in a very short amount of time. I am not sure I could pass on a pair of RF-7s for $900 simply because you save two ways. First, you won't find a better price and, two, you won't have the additional cost of having to upgrade once you tire of the (fill in the blank) that you bought instead. Good luck!
  4. They came out with a special edition that was wide screen late last year. I think this is it at BB online: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=product&id=62520&skuId=4294276 It is a little more pricey than the first one that was full screen.

I know that feeling very well! Making the decisions from the numerous possibilities is the hard part. I am fighting that decision battle now as well! I think the only way you can go wrong is if you over extend yourself (which I am trying desperately not to do!) Good luck!

John ---------------- I was bidding on a new set of RF-5's on Ebay but, they are getting out of my price range fast... and I knew they would! I am leaning towards getting the very sub you mentioned. I couldn't believe when I looked that shipping and handling on one of those was $99 though. Thanks, Dallas
  7. Johnny, there is one on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14992&item=5707550088&rd=1 D-Rex

It is the widescreen special edition. I have been using Paypal via Ebay but I haven't sold anything to anyone using it. Let me know if you are interested and we will work it out. Thanks, Dallas

    Die Another Day

I have an unopened Die Another Day DVD that I have been contemplating taking back but it's take back value is only $12. I like the movie and will watch it again in the future I am sure but, are the HT effects (and don't mention Halle here) worth keeping the DVD? Do any of you have it simply for the way it sounds on your HT systems?

dkp, I just paid $330 on a used pair (w/stands) but without a warranty. I would definitely say it's a buy if you like them and you can tolerate a slight nick! D-Rex

Thanks, I will check them out but I doubt we in Tulsa will be getting any 40-60% discounts!

They are wider but the sound will also be much bigger. He is selling them because he has 3 pair of Cornwalls and needs to thin the herd. I think that he is still selling them. I think you can search on member names, if not let me know and I can get you his email address and maybe you guys can work something out. You won't be disappointed with the Cornwalls that is for sure. If you thought the RF-5's sounded good you are in for a real treat! ---------------- That is an interesting proposal but I am already in deep water for straying off the plan my wife and I formulated. I will keep this in mind though because these Cornwallis speakers seem to be very popular and, undoubtedly sound great.

Just make sure to put them on REALLY sturdy stands if you go that route. Also experiment with placement as the bass ports are in the rear. A good sub will give you a better system than spending money to get the RF3's. Enjoy! ps what are you using for surrounds? from what I hear, most Forum members are staying away from RS series in favor of a matched RB speaker set. ---------------- I have some JBL bookshelf speakers for surrounds. I have been reading and had decided I wanted the Klipsch bookshelf speakers for surrounds which is why I made this somewhat unplanned (from my wife's perspective) purchase. Now, for one of the more difficult decisions, if I have $650 remaining and have the opportunity to buy a HSU/SVS subwoofer or a pair of RF-5's, which would be the best route? I am thinking the RF-5s just because of the appearent good deal but I really do want to feel the bass, soon!

  17. We must not have Ovation stores here in Oklahoma. However, if they were in a surrounding state it would be worth the $300 in savings to just make a trip of it if it were within a day's driving distance. Being in Stillwater, OK, I am closer to KS/MO/ARK than any of the other states but I will look into it. Thanks, D
  18. This is all good news for me because my wife was not too pleased that I spent $330 of the money we had set aside for RF-5s. I just felt that the RB-5's were just too flexible not to get at that price and it seems all of you confirm that RB-5s are great speakers to have. Now I just have to hope and pray that she will agree that these are worth the money! Now, how would you guys go about discerning the difference between the HSU and the SVS subs? Are they in any mainstream stores where I could hear them? I am sure both have a loyal following. I would have to say it is more important that I have the bass for HT rather than music. One more thing, which one compares most favorably to the RSW-15? I was really impressed with the bass out of that when we were at Ultimate Electronics. Minority Report was simply awesome! Thanks, D

What do you think about the Paradigm PW-2200? I have heard alot of good things about the SVS and HSU subs.
  20. I just made the decision to utilize a pair of RB-5's as mains and possibly passed up the chance for a pair of RF-3's. I paid $330 for the RB-5's but the RF-3's were going to cost $500 or more. Since I really wanted a pair of RF-5's for mains do you think the RB-5's will make good mains until I get the funds for RF-5's or better? Or, shoudl I go ahead and get the RF-3's and move these RB-5's as surround speakers? Any and all opinions appreciated! D-Rex

I still need to pick up a couple of floor speakers and possibly a sub over the next few weeks/months! I just can't buy this stuff soon enough! D
  24. Thanks guys! I am now the owner of an AVR 3801 for $380 + shipping. I look forward to matching these up to my Klipsch speakers! D-Rex
  25. I am not familiar with seperates at all, didn't even know they existed until I started visiting this forum and several like this one. I don't have alot to spend on a receiver (<$400) but I don't necessarily want to buy a receiver I will need to replace in two years or less. Would the 3801 be a decent pick-up and can I add an amp to it later if I want more juice? Thanks, D
