  1. I bought my Denon 3802 used, locally and have really enjoyed it. I did an upgrade from a 3801 so I really just got a little more power but I was able to sell my 3801 online for more than I paid for the 3802.

Since I bought my Toshiba PLasma I have been very quiet on the upgrade front but am certainly trying to pick up a pair of RF-7s for cheap...

  2. I think most are not ready to see these events unfold in the movie theatre. It really hasn't been long enough for me to have forgotten what transpired. It further saddens me that Bush has so mishandled the situation. Those individuals and the thousands of others that died that day will not have died in vain but we will need better leadership at the top to get us out of the current mess we are in so that the real enemy, Al Queda, can be wiped off the face of the earth!

  3. Thanks guys! I did get it to work, a combination of hooking the cables up correctly, and making some adjustments to the Oppo. It was much easier when everything ran through the receiver but it will be a while before I can afford that model of Denon!

Everything works great! I am getting my TV stand this weekend and will have pictures to post sometime next week. It will be a modest set-up but one I think will be very pleasing to me!

  4. I have my DVD player, an Oppo, connected to my new Toshiba 42HP95. My receiver is a Denon 3802 which doesn't have any HDMI connections so I have the Oppo connected directly to the TV via the DVI to HDMI cable. My question is how do I get this to work through my receiver? Since the DVD player is connected directly into the TV do I have to run the audio out of the television and into the receiver?

    Thanks,

    D

  5. Well, I am not a Bond freak but I do like quite a few of those movies, most with Roger Moore as 007. With that said, I think Remington Steele, er..., I mean Pierce Brosnan made a great Bond. He was cool, a charmer with the ladies and had just enough moxy to make you believe he was actually getting away with his outlandish stunts! I really couldn't stand that Dalton guy so Pierce has been a real shot in the arm for me and the Bond series. Wouldn't be a post about Bond without mentioning Sean Connery! Okay, consider him mentioned!

With that said, I did find this movie entertaining enough that I bought it, and felt the DTS track was an added bonus. I haven't watched it in a while but I know my entire DVD collection is about to get a big workout... unfortunately, that means I won't! [;)]

  6. I went from an RC3 II to an RC-7. I also had plans to keep my RC3 II as a rear surround but I just didn't have the space to keep it. The RC3 II is an excellent center channel but the RC-7 is a significant improvement. I wouldn't hesitate to spend the $400 for a brand new one. You could use it for years and then, when you go to sell it, you would probably be able to make a Benjamin or two!

    Take care,

  7. I have had the RSW 12 for about a year and I feel it is the single best addition to my HT set-up I have ever made! Now, I do have a Plasma television on the way so that may bump the RSW down to second but I couldn't be more happy with it! I bought it on-line from an authorized dealer for $800. No, I didn't get any of the manufacturer's warranty because it was an on-line purchase but I couldn't pass the deal up!

I must add though, that I had purchased an RW-12 just a few weeks before I bought the RSW-12 and it performed very admirably. The RW-12 did a very good job for the $450 range!

    Take care,

  8. Now all you need is an updscaling dvd player to realy injoy that new display. They make a huge differnce and displays like yours.

    Congrats on the new tv.

I bought an Oppo about a week ago. I understand they are coming out with a new version later this Spring that is HDMI to HDMI so no need for a seperate audio cable. Well, that's what I hear anyway, but I think this one will work fine for me.

I recently bought a regular Panasonic DVD player/recorder as well so I planned to try them both out and see if the upconverting player is worth the extra coin. I had just heard such great things about the Oppo that I had to give it a try.

    Thanks,

    D

  9. Congratulations on the new plasma.[:)] My Dad recently got a Panasonic plasma and the picture on it is fantastic! Enjoy.

Panasonic was my first choice but Toshiba was my wife's first choice... [:|] ... Well, I think it was a no lose either way, I just happened to find a deal on the Toshiba that tilted me in my wife's direction. I am sure I would have eventually tilted that way anyways... [:D]

  10. D,

Congrats, if I remember correctly you already have HDTV there! So it is all Good. Post some Pics

when you get your system setup!.......

I will most definitely post some pics! I owe this site alot for the help that has been provided to me concerning my speakers and now my television. Just a year and a half ago, I owned a 12 year old pioneer system purchased from Best Buy and a 32" Magnovox. Since then I have "poored" over $5K into my HT system (including my recent plasma purchase) and feel it will serve me well for many, many years to come.

I still have to contact either Cox or DirectTV to get my HDTV but, in the meantime, I have a stockpile of movies I have been waiting to watch (Batman Begins, Matrix Revolutions, Wallace and Gromit) and numerous other movies like LOTR Trilogy, Star Wars, etc. that I am dying to watch on my new TV!

Wow, I never knew it would feel so good and so bad to spend $3K. I mean, I have had less stress buying $20K cars than I have had trying to buy this TV. I guess financing a car out over 5 years makes it feel less like you are spending that much money. Regardless, I will be much more prudent on my next car purchase just because of the experience I gained trying to make this purchase.

I waited for 2 months and finally saved $600 for my time and effort, plus another $140 in cash back and 6 months no payments or interest. Yep, they were practically giving them away! [:o]

    Take care,

    D

  11. I am finally getting the video of my system caught up with the audio! Yes, I know 1080p is right around the corner and SED projection TVs will supposedly be the next toast of the town. It would be years before they will be affordable for me anyway so, in the meantime, I have purchased a Toshiba 42" and should be setting it up sometime after next Tuesday.

    Whoo Hoo!!

  12. Yes, I have been wanting this CD for a long time. I even just as recently as two days ago told my wife I wanted it for my B-Day coming up.

I really like the NIN version of Hurt but I find Cash singing that song as so moving I almost can't hold back the tears myself! I don't even know what else is on the CD but since I have bene a Cah fan for years, I am certain I will like it.

  13. The trailer creeps me out even more than the original movie. I guess I'll just have to wait for Dep to do another impersonatoin of a drunken Errol Flynn in the next Pirates of the Carribean.

That's not a drunken Errol Flynn, it's a medicated Keith Richards!!!!

Depp has been quoted as saying he was "channelling" Keith Richards into his character. I will be glad to see his character coming back to the big screen, although, since I am purchasing a Plasma TV, I doubt I will go see it there!

  14. Thanks that is what I was thinking. The dealer I am working with has a deal of buy one and get the other at half price, an he has the fr-7's for $849.00 ][

I have a HK 635 do you think it has enough power for 4 Rf-7's

That is a good question about your HK, one to which I don't know the answer. Maybe someone who has an HK or is familiar with them can answer it for you. I know when I was considering dropping some coin down for some RF-7s, I was wondering if my Denon 3802 would have the power to utilize them well. I am sure somebody can chime in with an opinion.

As far as overkill, that might be debatable but one thing is for certain, when you have the cash, you have the good deal, and it meets or exceeds your needs then you should do it! One shouldn't have to compromise the sonic quality on the rear channels just because they are used less fequently than the mains and center if one doesn't have to compromise! Worst case is you sell the RF-7s to me at a slight loss with little to no harm done. [:)]

    D

  15. To tell you the truth, I would be hard-pressed to not buy the RF-7's for only $450 more than the RF-35s. I think the RF-7s would be massive overkill for rear duty but I can't imagine what 5 channel music would sound like! But, at those price points, I would go with the 7's if I had the extra dough.

  16. I'm not into the whole glass thing so I built mine myself...

My wife has the same thoughts onthe glass but I think she is coming from the perspective that it will need dusted more often...

DIY isn't an option for me right now. But I could build my own in the future so this purchase could just be a temporary solution.

Anyone else have a plasma and RC-7?
