  1. Advice please: My current audio set-up is as follows: Yamaha RX-V540 receiver 85 watts X 6 No adjustable crossover Has Large and Small speaker options. Small Option crossover is 90 hz. Has "Main, Sub, or Both" LFE options. Klipsch Reference Speakers RF-3 Front L & R Speakers- 37 Hz to 20 kHz RB-25 Rears- 49Hz to 20kHz RC-3II Center- 62 Hz to 20kHz Here's my dilemma. A Mirage S12 will be arriving soon and this has caused me to notice a flaw in my set-up. As you can see, my receiver has no adjustable crossover. My RF-3's are great full range speakers that I will be severly limiting if I use my receivers "small" setting and/or send the LFE signal to only my sub. This will limit them to no lower than 90 hZ. What would you do? I COULD keep them set to "Large" and send the LFE signal to both the Sub and the RF-3's. Will this be adequate? Will this be base overkill? I could also set them to small, send the LFE ONLY to the sub and let the S12 handle the show. Would I be wasting the the 4 Eight inch copper woofers in my RF-3's? I could buy a new receiver with a user selectable crossover. I really don't want to do this as I like everything else about my receiver and I don't want to spend more money. Please give me your advice. Note: I realize in sitting down and typing this that I have basically answered my own question but I would still greatly value some feedback and advice.
  2. doodah, I was in AudioMasters on Saturday too! What a coincidence! I too was shocked to see that he had a thx ultra system set up. First off, it's such a small store and he only carries 2 brands of home audio speakers, psb and Klipsch. I stopped by to look at that beautiful cherry RF-7 pair that he had and he pointed me to the back room and showed me the ultra's. I've never bought anything from him but I certainly would in the future.
  3. Most of you don't know me but I've been reading this forum since 2000. I have been slowly building my first home theatre for 5 years. There are alot of people out there who are young and/or don't have alot of money to spend on home theatre equipment (like myself). Many people will decide to drop $500+ on a home theatre in a box instead of showing patience and slowly building your dream system. Here is my plan and how I completed it. I started in 2000. I was a sophomore in college and I wanted some floor-standing speakers. I went to the local NOW audio/video (now Tweeter) and auditioned various speakers (Klipsch, Def Tech, Boston, etc.). I loved the RF-3's. My only obstacle was the $800 a pair price tag. I found them online for $550 with no tax and have loved them ever since. I know the hazards of buying Klipsch on-line but luckily I have never needed the warranty which is likely expired anyway. I plugged them into my Aiwa receiver (I know... I know... I fixed this problem later). I loved the sound except the hiss that I later concluded was the fault of the incredibly high distortion level of the Aiwa receiver. I subsided on stereo audio and my 27 inch Sony TV for 4 years. Last summer I finally had enough money to upgrade my receiver. I bought a Yamaha rx-v540 from the same NOW audio/video store. I paid $239 dollars for this $450 receiver. I banished the Aiwa to a closet where it can die a slow and painful death. Late last summer the NOW Audio/Video store was discontinuing Klipsch because Tweeter was buying them. I got a pair of RB-25's for $190 total. These I use as my rears. I was looking for a cheap rc-3 but to no avail. Last month I got a Sony KV-34HS420 (34 inch widescreen direct-view hdtv) from Best Buy for $1199 using a price match. There price was (and still is $1599. I also got a Bell'O TV stand from them for $200. So now I am just one piece short of my goal... an rc-3 or rc-3II. I am scouring ebay and forums looking for a reasonably priced one. I am currently matrixing the center channel sound into my Rf-3's. To this point I have paid approximately $2378 for what I consider a pretty quality system. For those discouraged by the high price of this hobby, don't get frustrated, just be patient and be good shoppers!
  4. Thanks for your help. That's what I was afraid of. Altough, I could have sworn I read component conversion and not composite conversion.
  5. I have a Yamaha rx-v540 and when installing my new TV recently I could not get the receiver to pass the s-video signal coming from my dish dvr, to the component input on my tv. I obviously ran the s-video cable into the back of the receiver( from the dish DVR), and a component cable from the "component monitor" plug on the receiver to the tv. The receiver specs indicate component/s-video conversion capabilities so why am I not able to make this conversion?
  6. I bought a Yamaha rxv-540 for $250 a few months ago. It has 6.1 DTS-ES and Dolby EX, component switching, and a very clean 80 watts per channel.
  7. Yea, I got them at Now Audio/Video which is now Tweeter. At 98 bucks a piece I couldn't pass on them. I live in Knoxville Tennessee and since Now audio sold out, my closest Klipsch reference dealer is in Waynesville, NC. I just can't believe it. Not a single Klipsch dealer in Nashville OR Knoxville Tennessee. So I should be fine with that wattage as long as I don't play them too loudly?
  8. I just bought a pair of rb-25's at a store that was discontinuing Klipsch(can you imagine?!). They were half price and thus I didn't do a lot of research. They can handle 75 watts continuous and my Yamaha receiver outputs 80 watts per channel. Do I need to worry about damaging these speakers?
  9. I bought my rf-3's from brandnamez.com 3 years ago and have loved them. They say on the website that the factory warranty is still valid but I don't think that is the case. I have never had to test it. I am considering buying an rc-3II from them at the present moment but I am keeping my options open.
  10. I have been looking tirelessly for a Klipsch rc-3II or rc-3 and cannot find one. There is not even a decent one on ebay right now and no online retailers carry them anymore. Does anyone know of any stores in the Southeast or online stores that still carry them? Or does anyone want to sell one?
