  1. You probably are right on track; I've had one channel drop out completely because of bad contact at the rca plug. My problem was the phono input socket on my amp; a little cleaning fixed it. You can swap left and right channels to isolate the problem. Look at your cartridge connections and follow the wiring to the rca plugs. The rca wires on my 145 have been replaced; this indicates a problem with old wires. My 145 sounds great; well worth your effort to replace the wires. Good luck.
  2. I had the same caps in my Cornwalls and put off changing them out for Sonicaps because the speakers sounded good to my ears. When I finally put in new caps the sound was much improved; the result was a much more balanced sound and I'm sorry I didn't make the change sooner. The only downside for me was that tube rolling in my amp no longer has a big effect on the sound.
  3. Does anyone know of a product or have a homemade solution to easily switch different amplifiers to one pair of speakers? There are many speaker selector products, but I haven't noticed any devices that allow you to choose from different inputs to one speaker pair. Just wondering.
  4. I've been a Dead fan since my first concert in 1971. You can download most live shows from the internet using Bittorrent. There are many sites to download from; a general music site that I like is dimeadozen.org. Right now, I'm into 5/26/77 Baltimore; some great playing by the entire band, especially at the end of the first set on through the second set, and Jerry is in great vocal form. The JGB 2/6/72 is also a current favorite. I have to say that the GD live concert experience sounds right on through my Cornwalls.
  5. I have owned a pair of Cornwalls for two or three years now and have been VERY happy. Every once in a while, I wonder if Klipschorns would sound substantially better. I listen mostly to what would now be considered classic rock, 98% cd's, using an Eico st70 integrated amp and an Icon 2 cd player. So this question is for those of you who have lived with both Cornwalls and Klipschorns for a good period of time; how would you characterize the differences in sound of each speaker. Thanks In advance for any comments.
  6. Two weeks ago, I purchased a pair of Cornwalls (1981) from John who offered them for sale on this board. The superlatives that owners of Cornwalls use to describe the speakers are all deserved. These speakers reproduce all of the detail of the music and uncrowd the individual instruments and voices. Music that did not get good recording and mastering attention is still good through these speakers(I listen to many field recordings), but better mastered recordings(hdcd and sacd) simply sound wonderful. I felt that I neeeded to make this post, not for owners of these speakers because they already know these speakers, but for those who are lurking and wondering if thse old speakers are worth a listen. If you have the room for them, Cornwalls are a great bargain. Pete
