  1. Thanks to all of you for your advice.Im going to seal them in each corner and listen a few days in my normal seating area.My thinking in toeing them out was to aim the Tweeter and squaker exactly toward my seating position about 13 feet back and also the best seat for Movies.Yes these are brand new, there was a hint of fresh saw dust in the bass bins as I looked behind the tailboard through the mesh screen. Also, they are the exact finish I ordered ( Medium oak).I took the crossover out of one, just to have a look,it said AK4 in small letters on part of the circuit board.Very complex looking,no transformers or coils like K-Horns of old.Large number of capaciters and a few resisters.I've built a few crossovers for some DIY speaker projects over the years, these are engineered above anything I could handle. One thing I need to add and I most likley would give these crossover's the credit is there is no hint of harshness in the mid and upper spectrum at any volumn.I cannot say that about Cornwalls I've owned and the Heresy's (1980)I still have and listen to.Don't get me wrong here, the Cornwall and Heresy's are both fantastic speakers within there own right and they are one of the main reasons I purchased these K-Horns.The point is the engineers at Klipsch have I think worked hard in crossover refinement in the K-Horn to give it a smoother presentation and yet still have the wonderful dynamics that horn speakers bring to the listening experience. It took 6 weeks from the time I ordered to take delivery.I keep my media room closed when Im not in there jamming or watching something and when I first open the door to walk in, THE SMELL OF THESE BEAST ARE SOMETHING TO EXPERIENCE.I hope the new smell last for months.I will experiment a little with the placement,I may just go ahead and build the false walls and be done with it.I'll keep all of you posted.I did keep the boxes, put them in my attic.I took plenty of pics as I unboxed and assembled these and when I get more time I will post them. Thanks again to all of you,I gain and learn from your input.I hope I can do the same in the future for other forum members also.
  2. Sorry for the delay guys, took delivery on my new k- horns last Wed.10/4/13.Because of work and family commitments, did'nt unbox and hookup until last weekend. When dealer delivered, first thing he said was to hook them up and run them for 24 to 36 hours for breakin.Unboxed and hooked up last Saturday, first impressions,a little weak compaired to the cost of these but after a couple of days they have opened up a good bit.The more they run the better they sound. One thing I have noticed is I have a sound stage I have never had before. One question I have to anyone that can help,I've got these in a dedicated home theater media room that is 16 x 21 in deminsions.Because of home theater,I have these installed on the short wall (16 foot wall). For these to be aimed at the sweet spot, Im having to toe them out a little and doing so,they are not completely sealed in the corners like they should be.They are not off much from the corner but it does concern me a little.Im thinking of building false walls but Im thinking it might not make much of any difference. The bass response is good where they are at but I have heard that parts of the mid bass may suffer if not completely sealed to the corners.I do not want to go to the trouble of building false walls if its not really a great performance difference. Thanks for any input.
  3. Great news guys,My dealer called me today and informed me that he was standing by my brand new pair of 2004 Khorns. He received them in this afternoon, chills ran down my spine as I talked to him.The only problem is Im going out of town on company business Wed to Friday of this week and as for next week he cannot get them to me until Wed the Oct. 13th.I guess I can wait another week, anyway the 13th of Oct. is my 43rd birthday. Is that good timing or what.Im going to take plenty of pics as they are delivered and set up,so everyone please stay tuned.
  4. Thanks again to everyone, you guys have got me all fired up to the point I'll most likely have alot of sleepless nights just waiting to get the call form my dealer that delivery is upon me.Like a child on Christmas Eve.
  5. Thanks so much to all the great advice from all of you klipsch warriors.I pulled the trigger today and ordered a brand spankin new set of light oak finish K-Horns.Taken delivery sometime in October. Now all I have to do is somehow break the news to my better half and justify why our hard earned savings account is going to take a hit in the next month or so.She has understood for some time that I wanted a pair of these so hopefully the news want hit her to hard. This is my hobby and passion, besides working and taking care and spending time with the family unit Im not involved in much of anything else. Also, unlike alot of hobbies,im always at home. The bottom line is she will have to understand.WHATEVER,Im looking so forward to the arrival of these babies and to enter into the K-HORN perfect sound of music realm.I will post snap shots after they arrive and let everyone enjoy with me.Klipsch and McIntosh...Marriage made in Heaven.
  6. Help me,all my fellow Klipsch Warriors.Im about that far from ordering a 2004 set of k-Horns from my local klipsch dealer.6,000 bigs ones plus sales tax.Of course they will have to be ordered and I was informed by my dealer that it would take at least four weeks to take delivery.I've got cornwalls and heresy,s at the moment which I truly love the sound and performance of each of those Heritage models.Really,to sum it up,Im not getting any younger at 42 and I have always wanted and planned on gettig a pair of K-Horns.I have never heard a pair of these in my life but, as I understand the praise from you on this forum and also in the audio field concerning the K-Horns and the fact I love the sound of My heresy's and cornwalls,I know I can't go wrong here. Please push me over the edge so I can most likely enter the real sound of music.A side note, the K-Horns will be amplified by a McIntosh MC-402 (400x2) not a tube amp and a Denon Pre/Pro.
  7. Im putting together a couple of crossover's for a speaker project Im doing. While soldering a connection next to a capacitor,I let the side of the Iron touch the capacitor housing,It melted an area of about a quarter inch of the outer plastic housing down to it looks like a metal housing.Would anyone have advice on this.I want to make sure that I did not damage this capacitor.I put a small amount of silicone glue over the damaged area.I think it will be fine, I guess I just would like some peace of mind form someone else that builds crossovers and does soldering from time to time. Thanks
  8. Hi to everyone, long time reader, first time to post to this forum.I've been a Klipsch man since the first time I heard a pair of heresy's in 1979.I have a pair of 1980 Heresy's as well as a 1984 pair of cornwalls.Like alot of you I feel that there is no other speakers except Klipsch.I use Klipsch in my home theater and my computer(Promedia 2.1).I also have built several cornwall replica's over the years for myself and also for a friend or two mainly in the 80's and early 90's.My question to anyone that could help is this,Im in the process of building another pair but on a larger scale of the cornwall design that will house 18 inch Eminence drivers. In the early to mid eighties I use to buy alot of my drivers and horn's from a company called speakerlab. This company had alot of the same horn drivers that Klipsh uses in thier Heritage line.I've got an old pair of midrange horn drivers that I bought from speakerlab that Im using as my midrange in this project Im doing.I've used this same driver in the other cornwall replica projects that I've done over the years.Last night I took the back off one of the heresy's and one of the cornwall's and removed the k-55 driver form the horn lens and compared it with the speakerlab midrange driver. They are an exact match in everyway except for the company label on the back of the magnet.I guess Klipsch and Speakerlab bought these from Altec,EV,etc. Here is the kicker,In comparing the two drivers, both drivers have the markings for the connections as 1 and 2 instead of + and -,I noticed on the k-55-v driver that the number 2 connection had the red painted dot indicating the positive connection for the crossover. All these years I have used these speakerlab midrange drivers they have never had a red painted dot on any of them,I assumed that the number 1 connection would be the positive and connection 2 negative. If this is true,I have connected all of these speakerlab drivers up with the polarity incorrect. All of these I've built have always sounded great but if polarity is wrong on these midrange drivers, thats a problem and the performance would suffer. Can any of you shed any light on this problem.Again there is no doubt that these are the same drivers down to every marking.Does Klipsch change the polarity on these drivers for crossover purposes? Please Help
