  1. I have never really used receiver room EQ but wasn't equipped with a receiver that had a good version. I hear great things about Dirac. I need to update a very old HK receiver because I no longer get real surround formats while streaming Netflix since it doesn't support DD+. I'd like pre-outs for front mains to keep using my very old amplifier, but they only seem to be available on high end receivers; the exception looks to be the Yamaha RX-V6a (currently C$50 off at C$850). (I had a thread going last summer but never got around to buying anything.) I need 7.1, would like two HDMI outputs to stop using a splitter to the projector (although it works), and would like pre-outs for the front mains. Dirac Live is now available on the Onkyo TX-NR7100 (C$1350) and Pionner Elite VSX-LX305 (C$1550). These don't have pre-outs. I would have to move up to the Onkyo TX-RZ50 (C$2000) or the Pionnier Elite VSX-LX505 (C$1800) to ironically get more power so that I can skip using it and use my power amp. Is Dirac Live worth it? Is the jump from the C$850 Yamaha RX-V6a (which gets me pre-outs) to the C$1350 Elite 305 (Dirac but no pre-outs) worth it? Thanks, Peter
  2. I would chop up a La Scala, put the bass bin below the TV and the mid and tweeter above it.
  3. If you are that close to the back wall, don't put speakers there. A 5.1 system should have speakers on the sides anyway, and then 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 would add Atmos speakers in the ceiling (or bounce off the ceiling).
  4. I would reconsider the electronics up front. Those displays and lights will be distracting in dark scenes. Someone handy with wood work could cut a La Scala cabinet to get the bass unit and top section side by side under TV. Having said that, my 60 inch TV is above a La Scala (see Gallery link in my signature) and it works well in reclined HT type seating; it's not too high. I understand a single La Scala (or even a pair) is not easy to find.
  5. It has been a while! Nice to see old familiar names still around! 😉
  6. The Belle is a good idea. I tend to forget my center La Scala is inset into the wall.
  7. What will you be using as center? I fit a La Scala under a 60" TV and behind an acoustically transparent screen. I had tried a Heresy but that wasn't working for me. They do however work well as surrounds.
  8. A $400 receiver in the US is C$700 in Canada and C$800 after taxes. I'd like to keep it below C$1000, total. I mentioned the Yamaha; it's C$850 before taxes.
  9. I am looking for a cheap 7.1 receiver with pre-outs for the front R&L mains. There's a YouTube review of the Onkyo that says the Zone 2 pre-outs can be used for external amplification of the Zone 1 front mains, but I don't see this anywhere in the manual.
  10. Same here. Looking for affordable 7.1 receiver with pre-outs for front L&R, banana plugs on speaker terminals, and preferably two HDMI outputs (for TV and projector). So far the Yamaha RX-V6a looks to be the cheapest.
  11. I'd stick with a horn-loaded sub. It would blend in much better.
  12. I'm an imaging freak. The guy I bought my KHorns from wanted me to hear his 802D. They didn't image at all but he was very happy with the 'upgrade' over the KHorns. Got the KHorns home and they didn't image at all! Turns out one of the crossovers had the mid-driver wired in reverse polarity. Once that was sorted out they disappeared from the room. I'm sure that 802D properly setup can be awesome. Those I heard were not.
  13. I've got one of those too (60-inch F8500). Sweet picture. Inky blacks.
  14. The problem is that there is no such 'max'. The volume is gain requested, and what you think is requesting 125W peaks might be 1000W peaks, which will be clipped and sound bad, and may damage your speakers. Back in the day we had VU-meters to have a better guess at the power we were feeding our speakers. But I guess since people saw numbers of 1W or less often enough, that wasn't good information to give in order to sell new 100W+ receivers, so they got rid of them.
  15. I defeated the x-curve in my KPT-100 crossovers.
  16. I agree with the pro cinema line; I use X-Curve-defeated KPT-100. But without a rear wall to hang them on... you'll need something on stands? Or ceiling speakers?
  17. 'Watching' your viewing history, not literally watching you... Some TVs have cameras of course, which can be used to remote control the TV and for Skype. I don't use it on mine; too much of a hassle and I don't do much with my TV except turn it on and off and navigate Netflix.
  18. If you haven't heard them in the room, it's hard to draw conclusions. The room does soooo much.
  19. Does he want only people living in the US to answer?
  20. Honestly, if you are outputting to HDMI and watching Blurays, I don't see the point of anything beyond a sub-$100 Sony player. I have two. They have worked well for a few years. They are disposable if they ever break down. They gets the bits off the disk and onto the HDMI transport.
  21. Finally saw San Andreas. Minor nits that don't give away anything... Must he do everything? Fly the helicopter, hit the autopilot button and jump out to the rescue, really? Weren't there two SAR techs in the back seat, so the second one could have gone out? At the end, that boat propeller was indestructible! And it never tangled up any debris either. Ah well. There are much bigger gaps in the movie, but those little things bothered me.
  22. I have an Elunevision electric & tensioned AT screen and like it a lot. It comes down in from of a plasma 60-inch for movies, and partially blocks a door to a second media room that the kids use. So I don't leave it down when not in use. I have had it for a couple of years and have had no issues with it. Highly recommended. See my galley for pics.
