If you had jitter during your rip, would the modding of it stay there permanently or be the same as it happening while listening live on the transport? I don't know, just asking No, jitter would not get stored along with the bits of the music (if I understand the question correctly). I would use a music server to an affordable DAC, or a regular player that loads CDs fairly quickly outputting via digital to an affordable DAC.

Honestly, when you read the 105 feature list you get the feeling it is a pre/pro that can play Blurays and other media. Two HDMI inputs, but you'd really only use one permanently since the second plugs in front. USB input; I guess you can use it as your computer's sound card? That would make it a nice combo with a media server. Optical and coax inputs. Two HDMI outputs to feed your TV and projector without a $25 HDMI splitter. If you went that route, I would send analog audio to the AVR and video over HDMI directly to the displays. Your AVR would just be a glorified 7-channel amplifier with volume control. If there something I'm missing that would make this minimalist approach clunky? How is bass management on the Oppo 105?

So you want to use the DACs of the AVR. In that case don't overspend on a player that is expensive because of DACs. What you want is a unit that will accept multiple digital inputs in various formats and output them via coax or optical to your AVR (so everything except the HD audio codecs), right? If you are using the AVR DACs, even the Oppo 103 is likely overspending. If you used your AVR as just an amplifier, using only the analog input and the volume control, then the 103 or 105 would be interesting used as processors. I assume they have good bass management otherwise there would be no point. I would then route video directly to the projector and TV and bypass the AVR altogether (avoid component conversions). For me, I just find that HDMI is so much simpler.

Not a silly question. If the wavelength of the sound being created is longer than the speaker-driver separation, then the two point sources work as one (basically projecting the same wave). Woofers in a single speaker are usually spaced next to each other, so not an issue. Since wavelength gets smaller with higher frequency, it's mostly a tweeter issue in 2-way systems. A wavelength of 1m is 340 Hz, and 1 foot is about 1 KHz. Some people actually disconnect one of the tweeters. So if you lay them on their side, keep the tweeters closer together in the middle. It should be fine. I would be more worried about the orientation of the horn and its dispersion pattern.

Okay, you can route the sound back to the Oppo, not the AVR, my bad. But honestly, you are the one who specified If you happen to want to use the TV thru the AVR I am pretty sure that new TV will have ARC (audio return channel). I didn't make that up. ;-) Still, does he use a subwoofer with speakers set to small? Is he happy with the bass management done by the Oppo and then using analog outputs? Is the AVR doing any digital post-processing such as room correction? Personally, I would buy a separate amp (probably pro with RCA inputs) and take the power factoring out of the AVR equation. Then I would buy the cheapest AVR that has all the features I want including pre-outs. I would plug everything in HDMI to the AVR and HDMI to projector and TV and be done with it.

If he's running two channels off the amp as mentioned, I can't imagine that it would hurt anything. A little weird maybe. If side by side, I've never seen two tweeters in two different locations so I can't picture how that would translate but like you said, probably not a huge deal. People worry about comb filtering, the additive and canceling effect you get from two point sources playing the same thing. See diagram. But my opinion is that I don't hear anything except great imaging from my mains when I play a mono signal through them.

He can't use ARC to his AVR since it doesn't have HDMI. New smart TVs do NOT have HDMI output. They have ARC on one of the HDMI inputs, allowing you to send audio back to an HDMI-ARc capable AVR connected to that input. They have optical output. Do you use a sub with bass management?

Running both an RC 52 and a KG 2.2v? Don't do that. Running two identical speakers? Not advisable but probably not a huge deal either.

If an AT screen were considered, then the look and finish of the speaker may no longer matter much. Just for fun, is a 3x KPT-904 system less expensive than a 3x RF7ii or (2x RF7ii + RC64ii)? Might be something to consider anyway. Behind an AT screen, 3 used La Scala are certain to be cheaper, although cheaper may not be the goal here. (Might offset the added cost of an AT screen though)

Spent the evening alone last night; no wife or teenagers in the house. So I went to a concert in my HT room. A few tracks of Diana Krall's Live in Paris with great improvs and drums, Ariane Moffatt à la Station C with her great use of surround reverb on Grand cerf-volant, on to Norah Jones Live in New Orleans with again very well recorded drums, and finished with Michael Kaeshammer's KAESHAMMERLIVE with an incredibly well recorded concert with again fantastic drums. Unfortunately not a Bluray among them! Some video in 4x3 format as well! But great music. I would buy them all over again in Bluray. It's very strange to me that in stereo there is little bass. I wonder if settings are correct in the Denon. Try using your Denon as a pre-amp and feed the RCA output to your friend's Pioneer A-229. If the bass is back, you have confirmed that the amp of the Denon is the problem. If the bass is still gone, you have confirmed that it's a setting in the Denon's pre stage.

I am a bit confused... Looks like banana plugs plug into a part that screws into them? Is that last bit included? My 12 AWG wire is simply wound around the set screw, which is then screwed down, a few loose strands and all. I guess spades are what I need but never figured out exactly waht to get.

Who said anything about getting towers for cosmestic reasons? The aim to get identical speakers up front for the best timber matching (which admittedly I have failed at).

I'm not sure what MC means either, but having a matching center is often kind of awkward you have a traditional TV.
