  1. Thanks everyone for the replies. I purchased a Panny BDP-500 Blu ray and will hook up the 2 HDMI outs for 3D. I will probably just buy an HDMI switch too because I need to separate the HDMI output (single) on the Dish 722K as well. Thanks for the tip on the Denon 4311CI, nice price. Tempting!! I recommend the Panny 500 Blue ray for $275 approx. Nice features for the price. Burr Brown DAC, dual HDMI out, dual core CPU, etc. Blur rays are like computers anymore, they're get outdated in about 2 years, lol. Scott
  2. Hello Forum members: I have the classic RF7, RC7, RS7 and a Marantz SR8002 reciever paired up with a Panasonic VT50 55" plasma 3D TV. My Marantz is an older flagship with 1.3 HDMI switching, but no 3D support. I really like the sound of this unit, but I would also like 3D HDMI switching. I was thinking about for now just buying a $50 HDMI switch and route video to the plasma and sound to the Marantz. (not sure if this would work yet, but in theory it should with a 4 input, 2 output switch) Other than the switching, a new 2012 receiver would have newer Audyssey as well, but not sure if that's worth $1500+. And do the current Marantz and Denons sound as "good" as the SR8002?! Some opinions of the Marantz are 'no'. Any opinions? Thanks for your help guys! Scott [*-)]
  3. Just my .$.02, but why not just purchase the just released HK 3550HD? Very similar specs and a newer model. This is a model I have been thinking about myself. Scott
  4. It seems like the "wise" move is to wait for the release of the Emotiva UMC-1 pre/pro and get the XPA-5. Save some $$$ until then. But the Pioneer Elite SC-05 has me intrigued, as I have been pretty happy with my old Elite. Anybody have the new Elite line with the Refernce series? Are they a good match? Scott
  5. It's not so much the extra work that deters me from separates, but the lack of a modern (HD sound decoding and room accoustics correction like Audessey) pre/pro and $$$. My budget will be less than $1500 max, more like about $1000. Thank you for the recommendations so far. BTW- my other components are a 52" Sharp Aquos LCD (64U) and a Samsung BP-1200 Blu Ray. Scott
  6. The Emotiva gear looks like a great idea, but the UMC-1 isn't released yet, wouldn't want the XMC-1. any idea when? Also, the HK 7550HD isn't scheduled to be released until June 09, it's been delayed. Bummer on both accounts. Scott
  7. I have the RF7, RC7, and RS7 setup cuurently. I want to upgrade to the HDMI switching and all the new HD sound format decodings. I currenly use the Pioneer Elite 56TXI, and am thinking about the Pioneer SC-05 with the ICE amps. Anyone tried them? Good match for the RF7 and especially movie watching? I can also demo the Onkyo 876 locally at Onecall.com as well as the Marantz stuff like the 7003. Can't pick up the SC05, unless I want to pay retail price at Onecall. One other possiblity is the Yamaha line, which also Onecall sells. I haven't use them in many years, back when I thought they were too "bright". So many choices. Thanks for any help. Scott [*-)]
  8. I didn't follow anyones advice and went and purchased a Pioneer Elite 56TXI for $999 at Magnolia (demo unit, but fully warranteed). I know I probably should have went separates, ( they had B&K for $3500 for demos), but I'm pretty happy with the Elite right now. It's much more powerful than the Integra 6.2,and has all the tech goodies on it like accoustic EQ, which in my room works wonders. It has some flaws, like setting all of the 7's on Large, Subs volume too low, etc., but overall works really gtood. The Motorola DSP's sound very good to me. I haven't had any clipping problems yet, or shut off protection problems at high volumes, but I have set my crossover at 50 Hz, and set all speakers to small, so maybe this is why. Might set it to 80 later. The Elite doesn't do a good job of powering the Rf7 at full range, causing sloppy bass and a general "edginess" on the horns, but use the crossover, and the sound is hugely improved. Bass on the Rf7 stiffens, and the horns sound less "strained" Might use the 56TXI as a pre/pro in the future, sound like this would be a good idea? Another question: Should I biamp the RF7's with the Elite, as I'm running only a 5.1 setup? Any advantage to this, or would I just strain my amp/power supply even further? ALL this info is just my opinion of course and relative to my "tin ears". Thanks to everyone who replied! I sure enjoy reading most of the posts on this board. Scott
  9. Forgot to mention: Anybody recommend Adcom separtes with the Ref 7's? Are they too "bright"? etc, etc. I would like to hear from anybody who has/does own them, thnx! Scott
  10. i think Gramas701 has a good idea, buy the HK 635 for now to try out, then maybe use it to run the center RC7 and RS7, and buy a high quality 2 channel music amp using the main "preouts" on the HK635 to run the RF7's. Thanks, its rather obvious too, but I missed this idea. Flip side is that the HK7300 is $13xx form onecall.com, only about $500 more for the HK flagship. This idea makes sense too. I like to be able to physically pick up my electronics form a local store, and try them out, returning them if they "dont sound good". Therefore, I'm probably stuck with Magnolia and Onecall.com. Onecall.com does sell Marantz BTW. Are there any online audi dealers, that are reputable, and have a good return policy? Jandr.com was mentioned. Might have to find a dealer that sells NAD. Thanks everyone!!! Scott
  11. I have thought about the B&K 507, but it retails for $3000. I could get a 505 for around $2500 at the local Magnolia. Is B&K recievers "worth" this much, as compared to reasonably priced HK? Also, Onecall sells Adcom separates, I have given this some consideration too, so I would be willing to "overspend" on these. Thanks! Scott
  12. I'm think hard about getting the HK 635 with the room EQ for my RF7, RC7, RS7. Sounds like power will be OK, and HK seems to match well with Klipsch. My other thinking is the Pioneer Elite 54TXI? Any of the Pioneer models around $1000 would be an option. I've pretty much ruled dout Denon, Onkyo, and Yamaha. I can drive to onecall.com, within 10 miles from my home, so the HK would be easy to get. I may spend more to get the HK 7300, but I'm not sure if this is necessary, as Klipsch speakers are so efficient. BTW- Im upgrading a Integra 6.2 receiver. All opinions are very welcome, thanks!
  13. Thanks for the tip, MrMcGoo. Just found the sale on their website. One more question- Is the digital amps like HK's DPR 1005 or 2005, the way to go now? Better than traditional analog amps? Thanks alot, Scott
  14. Never mind, the article in SoundandVision mag. just answered all my questions... $2300 MSRP is a little high, hmmm...tough decisions. Scott
  15. 4 votes for HK, and 4 votes for Denon. Looks like I cant go wrong with either, except MrMagoo just sold me on the H/K because of the amp section power. 139 watts??? wow! Is that measure from 20-20K or at 1K? Also, does either one have a digital volume control? One that increases in a linear fashion? Good bass management on the H/K? Interesting reading! Scott
