  1. I have constructed several pairs of speaker cables as well as power cables and have ordered many supplies for these projects from Parts Express. BUT, I have yet to find heat shrink tubing like can be found on many of the power cables that can be bought complete. It's the heat shrink that will have a large enough diameter to go over the male and female socket, (over most of the socket except of course the prongs or female end that goes into your component or into the wall) AND shrink down small enough to enclose the cable as well. I have tried 3:1 ratio tubing and if you buy a diameter large enough to go over the socket end it will not shrink down small enough to grab the cable as well,....... Any suggestions? Thanks as always,
  2. I don't know anything specific about either one of these little integrated units but I thought I's add this link to a review. I have listened to HF 81's before and they truly are "Giant killers." EICO HF-81 Review: recommended components online Regards,
  3. Your 2.5's look great. With them comes the satisfaction of having assembled them yourself. Good job!
  4. I agree with Craig's advice. The world in general is full of critics and the "Audiophile" world is even more so! I too have a pair of LaScalas and the beauty of them is that they are so darn effecient! This opens up a whole world of low wattage tube amplification choices. I'm a big fan of redone vintage gear because of the relative value verses new HiFi gear. Welcome to the high DB/Watt/Meter club!
  5. I love my tube gear and it will always be my first line for all of my HiFi's. However, I got an NAD 3130 that an old friend had lightly used before he bought the NAIM system he had always wanted. He gave it to me in it's original box with the original receipt. This little thirty watt integrated amplifier is a real eye opener! I had always thought of NAD's lower lines as being good value for the money budget gear, I just didn't think it could sound so good. I'm keeping the little thing and I'm now a fan of at least one of NAD's products. Regards,
  6. To me budget was the prime thought when I began lusting for some tube audio gear. Knowing what's out there I take issue with those who say you should jump into a Peach or Blueberry and some of Craig's VRDs. Not that they are not very nice audio equipment but at least for me, as a "Beginner," their price tag was WAY beyond my means. (and besides how would one ever know how nice a Peach and a pair of Craig's VRDs are unless they start with some gear that's a bit more "Budget?") That being said I played with a pair of early 1960s Ampex 620 Mono-Blocks rated at 12 watts per channel that I bought for $250.00 and fixed up with new capacitors binding posts etc. They have been a ton of fun and they prepared me for my first Dynaco ST70 which I got for about $300.00 and went through it with new caps. and matched quad of JJ tubes etc. Jeeze Louise if you are willing to look and educate yourself a bit you can find lots of cool old tube amps. from Allen organs etc. Before you start with tube amplification I think you should get yourself as nice a pair of high DB/watt/meter speakers as you can afford. This will open up lots of reasonably inexpensive low wattage tube amplifiers for you to listen to and make judgements as to what you prefer in terms of sound. Above all, have fun! Regards, Bill Woodward Portland, OR.
  7. I never wished I had more room in my little home while I was completely going the through it from the roof to the foundation, but your beautiful attic shows me how nice it is to have the extra room when mapping out a project!! Outstanding work, Regards,
  8. Hi Craig; As I've mentioned to you on the phone and on this board, given my past dealings with you I want any further work I need done to any of my HiFi gear done by you. Wouldn't you know the day after I send a check for redone pair of MKIIIs, (to someone else) you come out and say you will be able to put some MKIIIs together. (In this case I truly am a day late, but not a dollar short!) I would have loved to have a pair of MKIIIs that you put together, they look fantastic! Regards,
  9. I'm going to have them in my main system, in my living room. They will be paired with a McIntoch C11 tube pre amplifier that Craig at NOS Valves went through for me last year. I happened to see an ST 70 that "Audiospec" (Will Vincent, the fella I bought the MKIIIs from) did and I was astounded at the attention to detail he puts into his rebuilds. Although I admit I don't really go for white or Farrari yellow ST70s the way he powdercoats every piece before he builds them back up adding thoughtful little updates like a power switch with a cool little blue LED light to the front of the amps not to mention relocating the fuse and all updated binding posts and gold RCA outputs to the back of the amps shows the degree he's willing to go through when taking on a project. I also prefer IEC connectors so I can use the power cords I build. Like I said I have lusted for a pair of Craig's VRDs but this pair of MKIII was just too good to pass up. I can't wait to integrate them into my main system and listen to how they drive my LaScalas. (as well as mating to Craig's rebuild of my McIntosh C11) Regards,
  10. Yes I have lusted for a pair of Craig's VRDs but still a little too rich for my blood. I'm told by Will Vincent, (the technician who did my MKIIIs) that there are one or two others on the Klipsch Forum who have amps he's gone through. We came to an agreement on a price and I should have them by the middle of next week,... AudiogoN ForSale: Dynaco pair mk iii 60 Watt Tube Amp
  11. As has been mentioned, Ebay's customer is the seller not the buyer. While I admit to buying two items through Ebay it proved to be much more trouble then it was worth. (especially since the items were worth very little in terms of money) Some say; "Never say never," well, I will NEVER buy anything through Ebay again. Two very close friends make a hefty part of their living selling on Ebay and if I have anything to dump I'll get them to sell it for me and float them some coin for their trouble. Ebay is way too big and makes way to much money to be truly interested in any of their customers, (sellers or buyers) who have trouble. There's too many other sites out there that specifically auction goods I'm involved with, no need to deal with Ebay. It's a shame more people don't quit dealing with them as well. Regards,
  12. Sad to say I don't think it's some kind of joke. I called the American number listed, a number in Seattle and as one might expect it's a Korean lady who can barely communicate in english. She couldn't even tell me the first thing about any of their products and could not put me in touch with anyone who could. (Lack of ability to speak english I suspect) Someone went to too much trouble for this to be a joke. Looks to me like they just stole the Klipsch story and logo,...kind of. None of the products they list seem to copy anything of the Klipsch design. What a world we live in,...
  13. I search Audiogon almost every day and have yet to find a pair. I'll keep up the search, anyone else with any suggestions? Thanks all,
  14. I briefly listened to a pair of these little chip mono blocks today. A guy was switching between a high end (Jeff Roland I think) amp and these little chip amps through a pair of Khorns and it really opened my eyes. I'm not much into DIY audio even though they do seem relatively easy to build. I'd like to buy a nice pair that someone has taken some time with. Any ideas? Thanks as always,
  15. My little study is sporting a 299D that's been completely gone through,...I love it! Listening to this gem makes me realize how right these guys had it all those years ago. Right now I'm listening to it's matching stablemate a Scott LT110B that I got from Craig at NOS Valves.
  16. I don't have near the collection some of you guys own but it would be very difficult for me to justify selling my mint 1983-4? LaScalas in birch. I have new AA crossovers in them and they look "As new." (I can't say I've ever heard a brand new pair of LaScalas) I guess if space ever became limited and I just had to sell the LaScalas I would NEVER get rid of my Audio Physic "Yaras." They cost way more than I could have ever justified spending but the guy I bought them from has some very serious money to spend on audio. He had them about a year and I got what I believe to be my deal of a lifetime on them. The Audio Physic Yaras sound out of this world. I still have a hard time believing they can produce highs and mid ranges almost with the LaScalas. They are a little shy on bass, but I never knew such small bass reflex speakers could sing so well,...
  17. I don't know if the sale is still on but I picked up the same Monster HTS3500 MkII on Buy.com for $159.00 BEFORE a $50.00 rebate making the final price $109.00! I dislike most everything the Company Monster stands for but this deal was just too good knowing what I was looking for in terms of power conditioning. If you choose the "Budget" shipping option, the shipping was FREE. Good luck,
  18. Very kind of you to help me sort this out DRBILL,.. I did a google and found several on Ebay, (which I HATE) but I would be willing to pick one of there, except all of the "Hits" I got were for Isotaps that were already sold. Could not find a place still selling them without having to bid. It sounds to me like they might no longer be made? Thanks again,
  19. Thanks Craig and Dr.Bill. An Isotap eh? Okay if I pick one up could I splice one inbetween my outlet and the Monster? That way the Monster would never receive more than 120v or 117v right? Thanks for all the help folks,
  20. Sooooo, should I worry about 122 volts going to my tube amps and pre amps over long periods of time? What would you guys do in my situation? Thanks again
  21. Forgive my ignorance but, re-bias what? All tube gear? Thanks
  22. Hello; I just bought a Monster HTS3500 power conditioner from Buy.com for $159.00 with a $50.00 rebate and I'm sure I will be happy with it given my needs but I have question or two answered if possible. First, my household voltage from any outlet in my home is running from 122.1 to 122.6 according to my digital volt/ohm meter. (Sad to say my new Monster conditioner's voltage meter reads 125 volts even when I put a volt/ohm meter off of one of it's outlets and it reads 122.2) Just cheap volt meter on my Monster unit? Second, I do not want 122 volts running to any of my precious tube gear over a prolonged period of time because I understand that it will wear everything including the tubes out faster,...is this correct? Third, could I just pick up an inexpensive variac and set it so that it will deliver no more than 118 to 119 volts and then hook it into my new conditioner and will this solve my voltage problem right? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Regards,
  23. I currently have a Mapletree "Ultra" 4A SE (Special Edition) and I have loved it. I picked it up from a fella who has more money than he knows what to do with. He had owned it for all of three months and used it very little as he has some very expensive gear. I bought it to splice into my main system during the time Craig at NOS Valves had my McIntosh C11 Pre amp that he went through, and I have not used it since. If you are looking for a 4A SE in mint condition with some NOS extra tubes and the original manual I will make you a good deal on it. Good luck either way, Bill Woodward

mOOn; I don't know where you got this,...if it was in fact from a web site I would like to know the address. If you ever come to Portland, Oregon I would like to buy you a beer. Damm I laughed at this one! We've all heard of M.A.D., (Mother's Aganist Drunk Drivers) but has anyone heard of "D.A.M.M.?" (Drunks Aganist Mad Mothers?)
