I merely posed a question.

It is a nice thought, but reality and the needs of a civilized society dictate otherwise. We do not allow people to beat their wives simply because what they do in the privacy of their homes is nobody's business. We have authority to go into people's homes to investigate cases of severe child abuse and neglect because what goes on in people's homes has most definitely been demonstrated to be everyone's business. I don't know where exactly the cut-off is supposed to be, and I do very much align with the legalization proponents on the basis of having more freedoms in one's own home. However, I don't think the adage helps articulate the distinction. Naturally, people will come back with the next adage, "As long as they aren't hurting anybody else..." There is no doubt that drug abuse has been shown to be one of the number-one reasons for child abuse and neglect... or at least, the correlation is very strong. It's not the easiest of issues. For example, if people ought to be able to use these particular drugs in their own homes, then, why not Xanax, Vicodin, Viagra, Symbicort and anything else they might want? Why should a doctor be in the way of their freedoms to take those drugs? What makes those drugs so special and worthy of regulation, as opposed to MJ and cocaine? If we open the flood gates, why not be consistent and open them all the way? We are also now being held communally accountable for the healthcare of us all. Those who abuse themselves and take risks now can rely upon others to pick the tab for the untoward consequences of those actions. What you do with your health matters to all of us.

Tough, but not new at all. Social strata has always existed and always will. If a comfortable life is any indicator of using the right ingredients in the proper amounts, I'd say whatever we're mixing right now is a pretty good recipe. I'd say what we're mixing now is marginal to unravelling. Add a new layer of inebriate fog into the blend and who knows what'll occur. IMHO we need to be adopting behaviors understood to enhance the human condition and I remain unconvinced that easy access to MJ is such a swell idea. Imagine visiting the grand kids and finding them sloppy stoned glued to their electronic games - week in and week out. I dunno - I s'pose if they churn out good grades, can be articulate and informed, objective, etc.......... that being in a chronic state of giggly jello makes little difference. But does prohibition actually reduce easy access to drugs for children? We shouldn't adopt a policy of prohibition out of sentimentality or moral righteousness when it's proven so counter productive. If you really want to limit kids' access to drugs, then we need to try a more sensible approach, where we don't cede control and power to the unsavory elements in the black market, waste a fortune doing it, ruin the lives of those with records and the obscene percentage of our people incarcerated, and perpetuating what is the modern equivalent of Jim Crow, all while failing to reduce kids' easy access to drugs. Need to find a balance. I will draw a comparison to e-cigs. They are thoroughly useless products, not legal for most kids to use but obtainable. But they are portrayed as glamorous in the marketing. Business drives the demand by defining incentive. And it is working. Kids are using e-cigs and feel they are glamorous, when in fact they've been duped and many are now addicted. So how to render MJ legal but not incentivize our youth? Smoke responsibly? I guess I am in disfavor of the entire premise. How does alcohol consumption, nicotine/opiate addiction or MJ use or any mind altering substance not used for medical ends - add to a persons life? How do they improve society? Seems to me to be the opposite - they impair society - they slow advancement - they drive health problems - none of them contribute. Now find the components of cannabis which can be isolated and converted into dose related applications and apply those. Perhaps there is the worlds best antidepressant or anxiolytic hiding in there? Once found they could be used as needed - to help - not hinder. Why does society need to be stoned, or drunk, or speeding to feel like they're having fun?

But that's just the thing. They need to reschedule MJ so proper research, at our best research hospitals and universities, with peer review, can take place. Our bodies are rife with cannabinoid receptors, they do modulate things (mood, pain, etc), and it demands proper study. And this is the key........ to fully dissect the properties of the drug so that we can understand how to best apply it contributions. There is a good and a dark side to recreational use of psychoactive drugs. When used with others, socially they can add positive dimensions to the overall experiences. When used alone to recede from troubles or stresses they become ineffective mental crutches that do not in any manner contribute to solving problems. I believe the world is at a point where advancement depends upon serious participation. Future generations have a sizable learning task ahead of them requiring mental acuity - not mental retardation. I suppose those who survive the wash will rise to the top. But will there be hordes of the lesser accomplished needing to be supported by those who succeed? Already we witness social stratification and its consequences. Tough and complex questions, really.

The industry of recreational MJ needs to refine its products for consistency and somehow the grow your own side of the equation needs to end. Why? Because todays MJ is so much stronger that it really needs regulatory controls. You cannot have a 'browny' one time and get 'X' amount high and have a 'browny' another time and get '4X' high. Every browny needs to be equivalent and that is just not possible with homegrown stuff getting into the mix. I live next to Washington and there has been an increase in accidents across the board with NJ legalization. Oddly it is not the fatal ones but the low speed ones. People just misgauge responses and reactions when they're stoned. One the upside there are breathalyzer products being developed that purportedly can provide a quantitative measure of MJ inebriation. From a cultural perspective we now have a quasi form of socialized medicine and adding another legal inebriate into the fray will add to the medical burden in many ways. We cannot remove alcohol - so there will be 2 sources of sloppy joy and splendor. It is an enigma because of the two I'd agree that MJ is better. But this is not an exchange proposition. It would be nice if people could revel in being healthy and alert and active.

I have sold a few items here usually to folks seeking stuff that happen to live close enough for a rendezvous. One of those sales was a marvelous experience and the other not so much. I sold a pair of RF 7's to a newer member and not 2 weeks later he had them back up for sale here for a good deal more $$$. He was trying to flip them for a quick profit and I nailed his thread to the wall - and he no longer participates here. I have purchased items here with tremendous satisfaction and real pleasure working with our members. Recently there's been a thread about a member wanting to get a power conditioner and I happen to have a Balanced Power unit collecting dust in my closet. I thought about offering to sell the unit but it weighs close to 60 pounds and getting it to the buyer would be very costly. And......... when I removed it from my system I learned that it had been the source of a very annoying transformer hum. I am always looking for something interesting......... ALS comes in a few varieties and it is one of the motor neuron diseases and in and of itself, it is not lethal like a cancer for example. Certainly a challenge but one of proper - if complex care. As long as the man is mechanically supported and otherwise sustained he will live......... he may live longer since he is not wearing out pathways through normal usage. I would draw a comparison to Christopher Reeves (AKA Superman). He suffered from traumatic quadriplegia but was in a similar boat. He had funds and access to the best care possible, but he made poor choices. Reeves died young because of improper care and poor care planning. Having dealt with innumerable such cases I am very impressed with Hawkings fortitude and his health team. Hopefully science will soon discover a cure for this ailment.
