  1. I know this is an old post... I'm just reading it due to references to HSU subwoofers. I'm over 900 miles away and apparently about a year late. But perhaps I could ask a question... considering this is a Klipsch forum, I assume those contributing to this have experience pairing HSU subs with other Klipsch speakers. I have Chorus II's and Forte II's in a 5.1 setup (with a Quartet center) and I'm considering HSU sub(s) to to handle my low end. Would any of you have experience pairing the HSU subs with speakers like I have? Should I expect smooth sailing or might I expect any issues? Thanks in advance for any insights.
  2. Shiva, Thanks for the input. I am considering buying two sub woofers so the PSA's are a bit pricey for me. Some of the Rythmik's are more affordable but their lower (less expensive) models kind of leave me wanting more. I've been reading a lot of material on various sub woofers and I'm becoming somewhat enamored of Hsu Research. I like the concept of their hybrid models, which allow one to open or seal each of two independent ports... depending whether one is listening to music or watching a movie with very dynamic soundtrack. The VTF-2 MK5 is quite affordable and would make buying two of them relatively easy. https://hsuresearch.com/products/vtf-2mk5.html I would feel more comfortable about considering these if anyone here has experience pairing any Hsu Research subwoofer with older Klipsch speakers like the Chorus II's and Forte II's in my system. (Did they pair well, sound good with, etc. or were there any kind of incompatibilities that detracted from the over all sound?)
  3. I have a 5.0.0 speaker set up consisting of 2 Chorus II's, 2 Forte II's and a single Quartet center channel. Looking to add one or two sub woofers in a large room (roughly2,750 cubic feet). My speakers are all voice matched and I'm looking for info on sub woofers that will sound right/best with my existing speakers. I recently purchased a Marantz 6015 with two discreet sub woofer connections. (Waiting for delivery of the receiver.) Expect to acquire a miniDSP UMIK-1 USB microphone and REW software to help place and tune sub woofer(s). Need help understanding what sub woofer(s) to add to this set up. Thanks in advance for any shared thoughts/guidance.
  4. This thread makes it sound a little like an either/or situation (2 channel music or 5.1 channel movies). Personally, I really enjoy using one system for both. Voice matched Klipsch speakers all the way around offer excellent surround or multi-channel opportunities for music listening as well as great audio for movies. With most good AV Recievers (or surround processers) you can always choose just 2 channels if you want... although I find myself doing this less and less. It takes a little more care (or variety of options) when selecting your electronics but offers an opportunity to have your cake and eat it too. If I was starting out with a pair of Heresy's, I'd give serious consideration to the suggestion of getting 3 more plus a sub-woofer... then put my time/effort into finding a decent receiver to meet my needs (and upgrade the electronics over time).
  5. I'm not planning on keeping the extra Quartet for several reasons. 1. Using a 5.1 setup. Most listening is music (CDs, SACDs) or concert DVDs... I don't find many of these mixed for more channels. I also watch some movies but this is a secondary interest. 2. My room is being taken over by speakers, electronics, etc. A rear center and/or side surrounds create increased location/wiring problems and would make the room too crowded. If movies were a greater interest I might consider this but with Chorus II mains, Forte II rears and a Quartet center, I'm already giving lots of space to the speakers I have... and enjoying these to the point of not desiring more. (This is my family room/den... and no plans to turn it into a HT.) 3. And probably most important... the wife factor... my wife thinks I've already gone overboard... and I don't think the added benefit is worth pushing this further. (But, don't get me wrong... I'm VERY happy with my setup the way it is. My wife even suggested going with the larger Forte IIs instead of Heresies for the rear... just another reason to love her!)
  6. I'm using a single Quartet center with my Chorus II mains and I'm very happy with this. You can remove the base and take a couple of inches off the height to help with space limitations and placement. The mid range driver in the Quartet matches the Chorus II (most important for vocals)... the high range driver is the same as used in the Academy... the larger woofer gives deeper lows than the Academy. This option is also less expensive than an Academy or Belle. I bought a pair of Quartets to get my center channel and I'm selling the spare... search on Quartet to find the thread.
  7. Picture 4 of 4. Other side of speaker and front, without grill cover.
  8. Picture 3 of 4. One side and front of speaker, with grill cover.
  9. Picture 2 of 4. Rear of speaker and passive cone.
  10. Picture 1 of 4. Above description is in error. Speaker for sale has one very faint scratch on top... too small to show up in a picture and very hard to see even if you are looking for it. There is a more visible scratch on the rear facing speaker base.
  11. Selling a single Quartet... great for center channel with Chorus II and/or Forte II mains. Cabinet is dark oak. I'm not sure how others grade cabinet condition but this must be either 8 or 9 out of 10. The only flaw I can find are some fine superficial scratches on top of cabinet (near the back). All drivers work and speaker sounds great. I recently purchased a pair and I'm using the other as center channel with my Chorus II mains. Mid range drivers match for these speakers. Quartet high end driver same as the Academy while woofer is larger and gives better low end reproduction. Asking $275. Pictures available... will try to include some in follow-up posting this weekend. I'll list on e-bay beginning Jan 16 if not sold by then. Will double box for shipment to U.S. or Canada... buyer pays actual shipping. Provide your address for a shipping estimate. Post any questions in this thread.
  12. I'm continuing to look for an opportunity to audition in the Houston, TX area. I've found one place in the Woodlands that customizes HT setups for big $$$ and can order/use both amps. Apparently they don't really have a showroom with ability to compare alternatives like this. If I asked them to, I'm a little afraid they would expect a possible large purchase from me. (I can't bring myself to lie that boldly! I just want a better idea which one to watch for on ebay, Audiogone, etc.)
  13. I'm looking to add a good quality amp to my 5.1 system, but use my HK 525 for pre-amp and processing for now. Using Chorus II mains, Forte II surrounds and Quartet center. Will appreciate any insights on the Aragon 2005 and Sunfire Cinema Grand 200~5 amps. (I'll be ^%$#'d if I can find any place to audition these amps with comparable speakers.) Thanks in advance.
  14. New to Klipsch in 2004. Acquired pairs of Chorus II, Forte II and Quartet... upgraded Sony ES receiver to HK avr525. Love the sound... listening to lots of old favorites again and getting into multi-channel SACD and concert/music DVDs. Plans for 2005: add a power amp and consider replacing old JBL powered sub-woofer. Also, find a new home for old speakers, receiver and one Quartet.
  15. I've read a little about the Sunfire Cinema Grand... sounds like a good amp. Do any members have experience using the 200 watt version with Klipsch Classic speakers? The Sunfire is said to run very cool and can be placed inside a cabinet... very appealing to me! I have a cabinet with glass door that houses all my other audio electronics. While I can rig something else for a high powered amp, it would be most convenient to place one inside, with CD, DVD, cable boxes, etc. That said, I don't want to sacrifice much in the way of audio quality... so I'm wondering how the Sunfire holds up for music listening with Chorus II and Forte II?
