Hey Marems, I can understand your interest in the Epic series. I have had a pair of Epic CF3's for close to a year. They are a fantastic speaker that also mates well with my KLF C-7 center. As you already know they have tremendous bass output and slam and are a lot of fun to listen to. From what I have read on this sight, there were 2 changes made to the Epics during their run. some have said that the first generation was the best, and one should try to get those if possible. Mine were shipped from Minneapolis to California using DHL and they charged about $160 for the pair. They were not packed that well and did get some corner dings but otherwise arrived intact. I think DVD recorders are great. I have the panasonic E55. I payed $199 at Costco. It records on DVD-ram and DV-R. Puts out a great picture as well on my 90" diagonal front projection screen. A Vcr looks like crap when blown up that big so in the closet it went. It will not be used by me again. Peace

I will tell you what I have done with my last 4 cars over the last 12 years. I have several credit cards with up around $25,000 on them and they send me 0% offers all the time. I rarely use credit cards for any other purpose as I pay cash for most things. I have bought my last 4 cars used that is, from dealers and payed with the credit card checks I get in the mail. I also do not even get my first bill for about 2 months by the time it is all processed and mailed to me. The card I put my last car on has a 0% for a year. They also offered me a 3.9% for the life of the loan but I saw no point as I keep it at 0% the whole time by flipping it when it is about over or paying it off. Sometimes it may cost a $50 transfer fee but that isn't a big deal compared to paying someone big dollars in interest. So, how about 0% for the last 12 years and still counting. Peace,

The way that VMPS audio tunes their passive radiators is that they apply something they call mortite damping compound to the passive radiators. By adding or removing some of it with your fingernail it is supposed to tune the passive. I was just reading about it in a review of one of their speakers.

MY Epio CF3's are 9 feet apart and my ears are about 11 feet from them with a KLF C-7 in between.

Speilberg definately knows how to grip you as there were many tension filled scenes. On the other hand I hated the whole Tim Robbins scene with it having a bit of a pedophile overtone, pointless and annoying. I also thought it was stupid to take over the earth by killing one person at a time, seems a bit lame. And for those who remember the grenade scene with about 4 people pulling on one of his arms, how did he pull the pins on them. And as many have already mentioned, the ending was too quick and uneventful. B+ for tension, C- for story.

I have read from a post on audioasylum.com that the horn on the epics are the same horn as on the KLF series. I am not sure of the accuracy of that though.

Mine also look like monster wire. how is the bass compared to the Khorns and conrwalls?

Dean, I have pulled the crossover boards a little while ago on my Epics to have a look around. Mine were were built in 94 and they still look brand new. Would you be able to explain to a total newb how to swap out the polyester caps for polypro ones? Which part # to get, where to get them, and the steps to swapping the old with the new. ON my Epic CF3's, there is one piece of foam that I can see which is placed against the back wall and it curves around the sides on the bottom half of the speakers. The bottom is bare wood. I placed my speakers on some 16"x16x 2" pavers on their spikes to raise the soudstage some. I definately don't find the midrange to be subdued on mine at all. They have a very powerful midrange to say the least. Also, I have never heard any of the heritage line to make any comparisons to their sound. I have read that it is not neccessary to rope caulk the horns when they are plastic, but those with more experience my speak on that. Maybe that deadened the sound for you somewhat. Best Regards

i have been using the kenwood sovereign 4090 now for the last 4 years and it has performed flawlessly. It handles 96khz signals for DVD-Audio and SACD. As it should, it decodes DTS and DD. It has its own HDCD decoder so you can play those CD's off of any player. It has 7 optical and coax imputs so there is very little worry of running out of them as in some AV receivers who only give you a few of them. a decent phono section, and preouts for a separate amplifier. As a pre-amp it can handle up 10 components. Not bad for something I got off U-Bid for $350.00. Of course if you want HDMI imputs as I do and 6 or 7 channel amp section, you will have to look elsewhere. I will replacing mine soon. Peace

I have heard great thigs said about the pioneer elite 56txi reciever which you can mate with a separate power amp if you wish. Many people get a two channel amp to power the mains and let the receivers amps power the rest of the speakers. Whatever you decide to purchase, take a look at the site Audiogon.com first before you buy. Also, you might want to investigate some front projectors for your home theater before buying your 61" TV. I have a 90" diagonal picture with mine. I will be buying a new one soon which will give me a 106" diagonal from the same distance and we are talking about a great picture as well. Happy Hunting

When peering into the port tubes of my Klipsch Epic CF3's I notice that there is just bare wood on the floor of the cabinet. Would there be any benefit to covering it with some acoustic foam. There is a curved piece of foam in their already across the back and sides. Thanks

For short demo scene material. some of the best I have found. Opening scene from Toy story 2. Its about 5 minutes of the some of the strongest bass, as good as it gets video quality and its funny as well. There is an Anime movie called Kiaena I believe. Cristen Duntz and Richard Harris do voice overs on it. This movie has one of strongest best thought out and recorded openings for a surround system that i have ever heard. Fantastic! House of the Flying Daggers. Check out the scene called echo game. The whole scene is almost all huge and tight drum hits. super powerful. Also the movie Hero. Great surround sound. Check out a movie called Baraka. Beautiful imagery from around the world. The audio track is music only and the sounds from nature. Huge bass hits, the ocean shooting through a blow hole in the rocks, being inside a roaring waterfall all around, . there is a scene where a giant tree is cut down. When it hits the ground, if your sub is up to the task, it will lift your couch. Peace,

Greetings all, My tube integrated (ASL AQ1003 DT) and my Rotel rb991 power amp each have their own speaker wires. When the tube amp is turned off, how long should one wait if at all to unplug the speaker cables from my Epic CF3's so that I can hook the Rotel back in. I have read that it is a good idea to drain the amp for awhile before disconnecting it from the speakers. Thanks,

I have a pair of epic CF3's, the first version of the three changes Klipsch made during their 2 year run as I have read. I have had them now about 6 months. I have matched them with the KLF legend C-7 center. Both of which I purchased without ever hearing them. I enjoy them immensely. They are 100dB efficient and play beautifully at low volume with the bass fully present, unlike many other brands I have heard that don't play well at low volume, and they totally pound when you crank them up. As many others here have said about Klipsch speakers, you can keep turning up the volume and the sound never struggles or compresses, it just stays clean at whatever volume I push through them. They are great for movies as well and have a nice punch to the chest impact about them that is very satisfying. The speakers the epics replaced where Audio Physic Tempo 3's, which were $3000.00 when new, though I didn't pay that. They sounded very nice and completely dissapeared when playing. They had a ring radiator tweeter that was stated to go up to 40,000khz, but not near the impact or the pure fun of the Epics. The One drawback that I experience though is because of the fact that the horn is placed in the center of the drivers the soundstage can be lower than you might want it. I have them slightly tilted back but toy with the idea of raising them up several inches. Though they are not one of the more popular Klipsch designs discussed here at this great forum, I think if you ever get a pair you will be impressed. I will be keeping mine for some time. Peace,

I was reading the latest little catalog from mapleshade audio and they mentioned that if you wish your speakers to preform at their best you should get rid of the brass jumpers between the binding posts. As they say they degrade the sound and replace with some good wire instead. Has anyone here found any truth to that idea. Shiva

Cool looking set-up. I also use a rotel amp to power my speakers and think Rotel makes great amps. If I could make one suggestion it would be to interchange your sub with your left speaker so that your mains would be the same distance from the center line of the tv. It would also widen the sweet spot and the soundstage. Just my 2 cents. Enjoy your great gear. Best Regards

Your observations are without merit. A class A amp by its very nature runs hot. Because of that they are built with big cooling fins to dissipate the heat generated. If you put a fairly big class A amp outside on a winters day it would still get hot. They are inefficient by their very nature and generate a lot of heat no matter what they are driving or where they are put. It does not take a very big leap to discern thas it is not running properly as it was intended. If your car does not work properly do you ignore it just because it still gets you down the street or do you find out whats wrong and attempt a fix. Maybe its in your nature just to ignore problems and let things run down and die but as for me I would rather have things run as they were intended. YMMV.

Hey Mike, Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions. This amp is said to be a nelson pass design.I have no schematics for this amp which came out around 1989. I was hoping to see what this amp would do with my recently acquired Klipsch epic cf3's. But I would not want to hurt the speakers in any way by hooking up a defective amp to them. Is there a simple visual way to find out which circuits control the bias settings. Do they have a particular shape,size or color or perhaps have a certain value printed on them that would allow me to find them from amongst the other circuits on the two circuit boards in there. It may be going up on audiogon pretty soon as a fixer upper. Take Care

Hey Mike, that was a great and informative post by you. To answer your question, first one side cooled off then the other. While the insides of this amp are not that complicated, discerning the bias circuitry from the rest of the bits and pieces in there, looks to be a bit over my head. UNder the hood of this amp, there are two big capacitors per side, a very large torroidel transformer I believe it is called and quite a few litle soldered doodads. you wouldn't happen to live in S. California by chance would you.

I have a Forte model 1A 50 watt class A amp. It has played beautifully for the few years that I have had it and still does. the problem is that as with most class A amps it has big cooling fins on each side that used to get nice and toasty to the touch. Now both sides while playing stay nice and cool and they never heat up. What has happened to the excess heat. I would like to get it cooking again to help heat my house during this winter. Does anyone know what is happening to this amp and how to fix. Thanks
