  1. Good news for those lusting after the Danley DTS10 subwoofer...

    The DTS10 DIY Kit is Back by Popular Demand

    Danley Sound Labs has decided to once again offer the DIY kit version of the DTS10 subwoofer. The kit version of this amazing sub was offered direct to the public from December 2009-April 2010. The response was amazing as the DTS10 took the DIY home theater and hi-fi stereo community by storm. Since the close of the offer on April 30, 2010, Danley has fielded multiple calls and emails each week asking that the kit be made available again. We have decided to listen to our fans! From today through September 30, 2011, you can once again purchase a Tom Danley designed, DTS10 subwoofer DIY kit for only $1075 plus shipping. To place your order, call Danley Sound Labs at 1-877-419-5805 or send us an email to jeff@danleysoundlabs.com.

    God Bless

  2. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences with upgrading and refinishing La Scalas. I've been reading and drooling all over thanks to your great work. I'm an amateur woodworker and I'm very impressed with the work you've done.

    Perhaps I'll be able to post up pics if I'm able to shut down my La Scalas while they're undergoing wood-surgery [:D] I just might pick up another pair to work on so I have mine to listen to.

    Keep sharing - it's inspiring dreamers like me who hope to make my La Scalas look as good as they sound!

  3. One of my all-time favorite songs is one of Elvis': (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes

    Oh I used to be disgusted,
    and now I try to be amused.
    But since their wings have gotten rusted,
    you know, the angels wanna wear my red shoes.

    But when they told me 'bout their side of the bargain,
    that's when I knew that I could not refuse.
    And I won't get any older,
    now the angels wanna wear my red shoes.

    Oh, I was watching while you're dancing away
    Our love got fractured in the echo and sway.

    How come everybody wants to be your friend?
    You know that it still hurts me just to say it.

    Oh, I know that she's disgusted (oh why's that)
    Cause she's feeling so abused. (oh that's too bad)

    She gets tired of the lust, (oh I'm so sad)
    but it's so hard to refuse.

    How can you say that I'm too old,
    when the angels have stolen my red shoes.

    Oh, I said "I'm so happy, I could die."
    She said "Drop dead," then left with another guy.

    That's what you get if you go chasing after vengeance.
    Ever since you got me punctured this has been my sentence.

    Oh I used to be disgusted, and now I try to be amused.
    But since their wings have got rusted,
    you know, the angels wanna wear my red shoes.

    But when they told me 'bout their side of the bargain,
    that's when I knew that I could not refuse.

    And I won't get any older,
    now the angels wanna wear my red shoes.

    Red shoes, the angels want to wear my red shoes

  4. I won't list movies - there are so many and besides, I'm heavily into concert/music DVD's - I enjoy watching them many more times than any of the movies. Here are some I highly recommend:

    * Standing in the Shadows of Motown - (The story of the Funk Brothers). This DVD has song after song of great Motown hits and the quality is wonderful. Joan Osborne's "What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted" has been praised as the "showstopping highlight" that "brings tears to ones eyes" in this "soaring" rendition.

    * Return of the Champions - Queen + Paul Rodgers (Paul Rodgers does not try and "be Freddy Mercury" - he handles the material beautifully).

    * Queen - Live at Wembley Stadium (yes, I really like Queen) - the sound and video are above average and the concert is outstanding - over 120,000 rabid Queen fans watching Freddy and Brian and the boys rock out.

    * Supernatural - Santana

    * The Strat Pack - Live in Concert (lots of great talents here)

    * Live at the Beacon Theater - James Taylor

    * Rattle and Hum - U2

    * Live from Slane Castle - U2

    * One More Car, One More Rider - Eric Clapton (outstanding video and DTS sound)

    * Hell Freezes Over - The Eagles (DTS reference recording)

    * Live at Donington - AC/DC

    * Serious Hits...Live! - Phil Collins

  7. Thanks for all your help!

    The LaScalas are in the living room that's about 15 x 20' with high ceiling (about 12' high). They're now being fed by an old Luxman integrated amp that's about 70-80 wpc. I do like to crank it up on occasion so that's still a necessity.

    What amps do you recommend?

    Thanks again.

  8. I'm a long-time LaScala owner and enthusiast (twenty-plus years of enjoyment) and it's time to get something new for them to play with. My LS's need a new amp.

    I think a tube amp would be great but I'm open to suggestions. I don't know what would be best for the rock and jazz I listen to and I need your help. I'd like to spend less than $1000 on the amp (less than $800 would be best). And I'd also like suggestions on a CD changer as a follow-on purchase.

    What should I buy? (FYI: I'm not an audiophile so please use layman's terms with me - I know what I like even if I don't know the specs :D )

    Thanks for your help!

  9. I'm thinking of refinishing my LaScalas. They look fine but I'd like to kick 'em up a notch 9.gif and I'm not willing to invest the time others have with comprehensive, laborious refinishing.

    What I'm thinking of doing is making a frame for the entire front of the LaScalas complete with grille cloth and then refinishing the top, sides and back of the Scalas. Much easier and should look awesome.

    Question is, where can I get quality speaker grille cloth and are there decent looking choices?

    Thanks for your suggestions and feedback.

    -It's all good!

  10. Great stuff (pics and captions) to read. Wish we could have shared the experience - would've been a fun field trip!

    Thanks for sharing pics of stuff I'll never own. I'm happy to have my LaScalas and room to listen to them (my first priority was always having great speakers and then worrying about when, where and how to enjoy them to their fullest - guess that's why for years I was speaker-room and home-poor 9.gif ).

    Thanks again for the pics!
