Hi folks, I am looking into power conditioner to be added into my HT. Since many of you have been in this "hobby" way much longer than i am, are there any recommendations to any other brand beside Monster? I am thinking of getting the HTS-3600. Michael, Thank you for your response. The reason why i am thinking of changing is because primarily i wanna get the best diffusion out of my surround environment. I am pretty sure thr RSX-5 speakers that i have now are directional speakers. I am however happy with my current front 3 channels. In your opinion, will upgrading the current surrounds to RS-xx speakers will provide me with the aforementioned goal? or the current surround setup suffices? the only store that carries klipsch line in my area unfortunately does not have the rs-xx speakers to be tested, only via online order. I am also initially thinking of purchasing an additional pair of surround for the back surround. Thanks for your response. Best Regards, Yohannes

Hi folks, I am new to HT and still in the process of reading anything that has to do with home theater setup, lingo, etc from books, and websites. It has come to my understanding based on the knowledge i acguired, specifically on the surround speakers which i have, Klipsch rsx-5. is a bipole speaker. In fact it is a sattelite/bookshelf speaker and perhaps not intended to be a surround speaker. is it correct to conjugate that the rsx-5 speaker to be a bipole speaker? My question is should i exchange it for a true surround speaker like the RS-XX line, which i believe to be a dipole speaker? however, my reservations are they are not availabe in silver(all my equipments are in this color), i dont know whether the RS-xx line will offer any significant "enveloping" sound output compared to my rsx-5 satellite. in the event that the RS-xx surrounds provide better diffusion output, then i have no choice but to return all speakers in exchange for RF-xx, RC-xx, and RSW-xx. although i have to admit, these are all very big, and dont't look as good as to my current setup. appreciate any thoughts, suggestions, or recommendations. TheEAR, One more thing. you mentioned that i should try to crossover my sub around where my mains start to cut. My fronts' frequency response is @ 75-20kHz ±3dB and my sub is @ 21-120Hz ±3dB, therefore following your suggestion, it will be justified to set the crossover at either my receiver or sub at 75Hz? However on the 1st question, you miss to mention the orientation of the sub on the sweetspot. where should i position the front woofer(circular shape thing) during testing on the listening position? should it be facing the front of the room, the sides of the room, or the back of the room. Hi folks, I browsed the topics some of you posted on how to test the most appropriate placement for your sub. I noticed that you experts out there suggested placing the subwoofer on the sweet spot, crawled around the room while music is playing to find the best spot to put the sub at. My question is 1) how should the orientation of the sub be at the sweet spot during testing, should the sub's front circular shape thing be facing the front, left, right, back? i have a rw-12. 2) Also, on my current config(you can take a look here: http://members.cox.net/zer0sn0nes/system1.jpg), my sub is placed on the corner of the room. Standing/sitting on 3 corners of the room, i can feel the bass output very much, whereas if i sit on the center of the room(the sweetspot), i dont feel it alot. is this normal? or more importantly, the current placement of the sub is not ideal, that's why i hear the bass this way? 3) btw, what is a port? i read that some of you refer to the port, the driver. isnt the driver the circular shape thing that vibrates when the bass is output? how about the port? 4) lastly, for the sub placement testing, how one should decide the most optimal sound? is it not too much bass, etc? Scooter, So you r saying that if i connect my dvd player and receiver with a regular audio cable, then the audio of the movies with DD/DTS option set prior to the playback, will only be output to the front 2 speakers and surround speakers won't give out any sound? Hi folks, I have a technical question about the above 2 connections. I was told when i purchased my HT system, that my dvd player's audio output should be connected to my receiver via digital audio connection, either a TOSLink / COAXIAL to get the 5.1 surround audio. Using the regular Left and Right will obviously give you only 2 channels. Well, my question is won't my receiver somehow distribute the audio contents of for example DD/DTS dvd movie to all 5 speakers even though i connect my dvd player to my receiver with just regular L&R cable? Hi folks, My receiver has a Video Conversion Function which allows video signals from Video and S-Video to be upgraded to higher quality. I am not sure what the manual means but i assume they are all upgraded to Component-video quality. If this is true, then why should one spend so much money on expensive Component cables when regular cables are gonna be upgraded anyway when connected. is my assumption correct? And for those of you who also has the AVR-3805, does this function apply to all Video and S-Video port on the backs as well as the front(V.AUX)? the manual does a poor job in explaing this in detail. Dougdrake, When you said "....using he x-over in your receiver, be sure and set the sub's crossover to as high a setting as possible to get it out of the way.", which knob adjust the sub's crossover? is it the lowpass or the phase knob? Best Regards, Yohannes

Hi guys, actually i need to turn up the volume moderately high for any movies, songs whose bass' signal is then detected by the sub. i mean it make sense really. if the volume of the movie/music is that low, why should the sub fire its bass when none is needed. so i can say thankfully that my sub is not broken. CECAA850, True, the volume needs to be turned up for the signal to be detected by te sub which i think make sense. if there is no need for the sub to produce bass(ex. volume is low), why should it fire. 1 more thing, since you used to have the rw-12 as well, i have questions regarding the phase and lowpass knobs. what are they? how can i set them? right now it is set by default by klipsch to 0* for phase and 40Hz for lowpass. any suggestions? thanks Best Regards, Yohannes

Hi guys, I originally connect my receiver to the sub via LFE but then i tried to connect the sub cable to a a Y-splitter connection that came with the sub. The result is the same. It;s true that when i watch drama movie, which does not have a lot of bass, the light indicator is always red. I guess is this normail for RW-12 or any sub with auto/on function being unsensitive to even subtle signal? Ygmn, when you listen to classic or soft music with the sub set to "auto" and decent sound volume, does it turn green? Best Regards, Yohannes

Hi folks, i just got the RW-12 sub and my sub keep on "dying" on me. In other words, everytime i listen to music / watch movies, i need to set the switch @ the back of the subwoofer to "on" so that it will start producing bass even though it is on "auto" which i read should turn on (light indicator turns green). Then if i change it to "auto", the indicator light stays on green which is good. But after a few minutes, it returns to "stand by" again(light indicator becomes red) and not producing anything and now i need to turn the switch to "on" again and so on. Anyone has experienced something like this on your sub? btw, i set the sub vol to half. I connect the sub to my Denon AVR-3805 via LFE channel, phase is @ 90*, Lowpass: 85 Hz. Hi folks, just wondering whether the single cable(LFE) or 2 cables(Line In) perform usually better for a sub. Although, the sub i bought(RW-12) comes with a "convertor cable" for the Line In(single to dual), it looks cheap and not good quality, wondering if i need to buy "higher grade" cable to replace the stock one. doudou & scp35, Regarding your responses to my questions. Actually there are 2 set of inputs(+ & -) for the speaker cables instead of the normal 1 set. High Freq and Low Freq. Both worked fine whether i use the high freq(top) or low freq(bottom), but i just dont know why each speaker has 2 set of those. Why they just cant make one set. There must be a reason but the manual i got did not explain anything on that Best Regards, Yoha

just bought them from goodguys, I spent 3 whole day researching for my first homme theater system. At first, it was very daunting with all the different brands of speakers which i have never heard before. I started reading different home theater magazines, online audio sites, forums, etc to get the "feeling" of what i am looking for. I originally purchased bose acoustimass 15 cos that's what all my friends are raving about. judging from it minute size with big sound, i agree. Alas, I read a pretty well-wrritten article on how bad bose speakers are and it sounds scary. Hence, i went to goodguys and try to prove whether Bose is that bad, well it was for its price. So i returned them. At the end, after exhaustive movies and audios reviews on different speakers systems for several days (Maybe the saleman was so fed up of seeing me everyday for 2 days testing all the different speakers, but he was so helpful nevertheless); Monitor Audio, Mirage Omnisat, Defnitive Technology, etc, i originally settled for Klipsch Reference Cinema 10 series which include 4 RSX-5 satellite speakers, 1 RW-10 sub, and 1 RCX-4 center channel which blew other speakers away when i tested my behind enemy lines and black hawk down movies . I almost bought it when the another senion saleman asked me what kind of receiver do i have. I said Denon AVR-3805. He suggested me to try the new top of the line REference series speakers which is the RVX-54 which just came in that day. So in the testing room, i tested those 2 movies with 2 RVX-54 speakers, 2 RSX-4 surrounds, RVX-42 center, and RW-12 sub. I was stunned and got each and every one of them. I pretty much got a great deal. It was $3k initially from the ad but They upgarded both my surrounds to RSX-5 for free as well as a free sanus stands for those 2 and the saleman personally delivers them to my house which was a nice touch. What hurt me the most is the investment on cables. I spent close to $600 just on them, the most i ever spent in my entire life. Well, i hope it is a good wire investment. There are pictures i took on the system. The TV when you look @ it is a little small and not "thin" at all, although it is at least flat. I was actually tempted to get the plasma tv by pioneer 43" for 3499(originially $6999) at good guys. They were having promotion until sunday i think, but i might have to postpone that thought for the future. I spent so much already. Hi folks, I just purchased Reference RVX-54 floorstand speakers. There are 2 set of speaker connections at the lower back with a label "HF" on the top and "LF" due south.
