  1. I find it interesting that many CD's that are released today, especially top 40/rock/pop etc. have a very MP3ish compressed sound to them. The music is mixed to sound decent on a MP3 player, and they figure that 95% of people don't have music systems that will actually differentiate the sound quality of an uncompressed vs. compressed audio sample, and they recognize that that same group of people listen to most of their music through cheap earbud headphones. I work with teenagers at my church, and I love to have them rave about how great their ipods sound. I invite them to my pad and ask them if they think they will hear a difference between the ipod sound and the sound from a CD or better yet a DVD-A... Most of them say they won't hear a difference. All but the deafest (is that a word...) of them are shocked how bad the ipod sounds in comparison to uncompressed CD.
  2. Michael, I connect my turntable to an old two channel receiver with a phono stage and then use the Aux outs to connect to my computer...I have a sound card with front RCA Inputs. Prior to getting my latest Sound Card I used the Headphone jack with a quarter inch to 1/8th inch converter and connected to the Aux in that way. Audio Cleaning lab does have a "Digital" Phono stage to connect the turntable directly to the computer, but it is really lousy IMHP. (In all honesty, the owners manual of the program tells you that a direct connection is the least desireable option...) If you are using a Mac, GarageBand will do many of the things that an Audio Cleaning program will...i think...
  3. I have been using Magix Audio Cleaning Lab for quite some time now. The program runs about $50 and does a pretty good job. It does a great job of eliminating annoying lp noise. It has a Denoiser, Dehisser, Decrackler, and Declicker as well as many FX for adding reverb, eq, compression etc. It also has the ability to add aftermarket FX processors vis VST. I really like this program and have transferred a lot of vinyl to CD for my dad and his friends.
  4. TIGERS WIN! OHHHHHHHHHH BABY TIGERS WIN! Bring on the A"S!!!
  5. Sorry, I missed the price in the first post....Where are you located? How much to ship?
  6. Hey...lookee..500 posts...yeah me...
  7. Agreed. The more I use a mac the more I like it. I have an old imac (450mhz, 512 ram) that I got at a garage sale and updated it to OS 10.4 (its barely meets the os requirements...) I had never had a mac before and thought I would try a cheap one and see what all the fuss is about. I have been running the mac for about a year as a second computer in my bedroom. I only use it for internet and the occasional word processing. It plays DVDs well too. No PC at the speed of this machine could even think of showing a DVD.... and it never has issues, it never hangs, it never needs the myriads of scans that my pc needs. It just works. My next compooper will definitely be a mac
  8. Agreed. Unless you are really geeked about getting a Mac, just back everything up, do a full system wipe and reinstall the OS. You still have a killer computer there...Not as fast as some of the new dual core systems but not bad none the less...
  9. Of course, you could always buy a Mac, and not worry about any of it.....
  10. I'll put a vouch in on the other side. I ran Symantec products for years and always thought they slowed things way down. Tried the free stuff on Komando.com...ok but not a lot of features like being able to automatically schedule a scan... The ATT Antivirus runs in the background has caught many an inbound transmission and visibly blocked them. It automatically updates everytime I turn my computer on, and runs a scan in the middle of the night daily... The Anti spy is not as good as some, but, one anti spy program is never enough. They all are better at catching different things. I use Microsoft Defender, Lavasoft As-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and the ATT Anti spy. They all catch different stuff. The Parental Controls from ATT are adequate too... You still need a firewall, and I don't believe that the one offered in WINXP is adequate. It blocks incoming, but not outgoing transmissions.... Anyway, just wanted to voice an opinion for the other side...I have been super happy with ATT since I got DSL a couple years ago. Its never down and the service is great for the price... As always...YMMV
  11. Leaves are just starting to turn here in MI too. Beautiful Country side. Nice shots for being at 60mph.
  12. I would jump all over that custom KLF20 Center. He has a 250 BIN on it. Looks like a steal to me and it would be the PERFECT match for your 20's . Go for it!
  13. I think guys aren't responding because none of them have in walls with Heritage. I say go for it if you don't have room for more heritage. It won't be a perfect timbre match but you could do a lot worse...
  14. Be patient. The c7 will be a perfect match for your 30's, and the price won't stay that high forever. I only paid $225 for mine and there was a pair of Kg4.2's thrown in for good measure. It's a killer center channel by theway. I can't wait til I can afford the popbumber upgrade for mine...
  15. Another ebay anamoly... $460 bucks for a C7. That is insane. That's mint academy pricing. I'd almost think about selling mine if I was sure I could get that much. I watched this whole auction. The speaker originally had a $250 BIN price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=005&item=150029810598&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1
  16. Try www.tigerdirect.com Lots of great deals and great service.
  17. I would have loved to be there. I live in the Grand Rapids Michigan area, but alas I was in the Hurd's neighborhood that weekend on a Canadian fishing trip on Dog Lake...Just north of Thunder Bay Ontario. Never been there before...what an absolutely beautiful drive around Lake Superior... I'll be at the next BBQ....
  18. I don't know about the reason for the turnaround...actually, I have a pair of 4.2's and think they sound great. I have found that it is hard to come up with a decent pair of 4.2's...ie ones that haven't been beat on. I would ****** up a local pair in walnut if they surfaced. I would love to move my Forte's to a two channel system and use the smaller 4.2's in an all KG home theater...
  19. I purchased my C7 locally of ebay with a pair of KG4.2's for $250. It was a screamin deal. I absolutely love my C7. I would love to do a crossover upgrade sometime. I have heard that it really opens up an already great speaker. $250-300 for a C7 is a reasonable price. The 20's seem to be rarer all the time. You could probably get considerably more for those.
  20. I use a 1015tx for my main HT receiver powering a legend/quasi heritage HT. I have been very happy with it Good clean power, great Multi channel automatic calibration. Plenty of connections, 7 digital inputs if I remember right.. Go for it.
  21. Any good pro audio shop should be able to provide you with cables that will do the trick. 3' to 6' xlr patch cables are less than 10 dollars for a decent one at my local gear shop (Firehouse Music in GR.)
  22. How bout my favorite guitarist Phil Keaggy...here's a great video--vintage Keaggy performing "The Reunion"
  23. Here's one--from the 80's "Run fer fun?...What the hell kinda fun is that?"
  24. I've already got my tickets for the Grand Rapids, MI tour stop...can't wait.
