  1. My wife would do the same for me, sort of. Just substitute "large dumpsters" for "nice shelves for my records." Oh, and it wouldn't be IKEA, it would be the dump. Another reason to secure any shelving, especially ones with heavy loads, to the walls is earthquakes. You probably only need to worry if you live somewhere prone to this, like Missouri. Or Earth.
  2. I love the video, and of course, being a carpenter, have a good supply of wood glue. Would you be a pal and send me a few of your credit cards?
  3. Lovely daughters, Ben. Your wife must be EXTRA beautiful!!
  4. Here are the girls having fun posing with Woodstock:
  5. I don't wanna make you guys too jealous (JB!), but I'm pretty busy this week with three 22-year old Japanese ladies! Before y'all get thinking the wrong thing, they all call me Papa, and they're all 3 my Japanese "daughters." One of the girls was here 1-1/2 years ago as an exchange student. This year she's back with two friends! Having fun showing the local sites. This afternoon it's off to the Charles M. Schulz Museum!

I've gotta get myself back to the hospital...
  7. Ooh, do you have a red plaid shirt?
  8. sputnik, I think my teddy bear was made by the same company. Same creepy face. Mine didn't have the fancy hands or shoes, though.
  9. I love the look of the console you pictured, Iain. The Klipsch wooden prototype is too boxy for my tastes. Klipsch designers should take inspiration from that wild, organic shaped Khorn pictured in the museum...
  10. Cute, Dave.I had a large teddy bear with a rubbery face. I had it up until a year ago, when the Mrs. convinced me to toss it. Not sure that was a good idea. I still have my little yellow elephant, though.
  11. Yep. We took the train from Oakland to Reno and back, and nine months later we were parents. Gotta love those "sleeper" cars...
  12. Jonathan Coulton, Re: Your Brains Heya Tom, it's Bob, from the office down the hall. Good to see you buddy, how've you been? Things have been O.K. for me except that I'm a zombie now. I really wish you'd let us in. I think I speak for all of us when I say I understand Why you folks might hesitate to submit to our demand. But here's an FYI: you're all gonna die screaming. All we wanna do is eat your brains. We're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes All we wanna do is eat your brains. We're at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise: If you open up the doors We'll all come inside and eat your brains. I don't want to nitpick, Tom, but is this really your plan? Spend your whole life locked inside a mall? Maybe that's OK for now but someday you'll be out of food and guns, Then you'll have to make the call. I'm not surprised to see you haven't thought it through enough. You never had the head for all that bigger picture stuff. But Tom, that's what I do, and I plan on eating you slowly. All we wanna do is eat your brains. We're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes. All we wanna do is eat your brains. We're at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise: If you open up the doors We'll all come inside and eat your brains. I'd like to help you Tom, in any way I can. I sure appreciate the way you're working with me. I'm not a monster Tom, well, technically I am. I guess I am... Got another meeting Tom, maybe we could wrap it up? I know we'll get to common ground somehow. Meanwhile I'll report back to my colleagues who are chewing on the doors I guess we'll table this for now I'm glad to see you take constructive criticism well Thank you for your time I know we're all busy as hell And we'll put this thing to bed When I bash your head open All we wanna do is eat your brains We're not unreasonable, I mean, no one's gonna eat your eyes All we wanna do is eat your brains We're at an impasse here, maybe we should compromise: If you open up the doors We'll all come inside and eat your brains
  13. One other thing, the LG's speakers are worse than bad. Super tinny. I'd like to be able to improve the sound without turning on the big system every time I want to watch the news. I'm considering hooking up an Energy sub to the tv's audio out to see if that makes it bearable.
  14. My wife and kids were kind enough to buy me a new TV (LG 42LV4400) this last Christmas (it doesn't require jiggling to get a clear signal!), and I need to upgrade my set-up to digital. I'm a Comcast customer (cable and internet) and have generally been pleased with their service. Since the old tv was over 12 years old, our whole system was analog. Associated (current) equipment is a Comcast convertor box, Panasonic dvd player, Denon AVR-3300 receiver, TIVO box. I'm planning on upgrading the dvd player (like to find a good deal on an Oppo 93, maybe an 83), but I see no need to change the receiver, at least not right away. Of course, we'll need a new digital dvr. So, my main question is, would it be better to get a dvr from Comcast, TIVO, or somewhere else? We watch almost nothing unless it's been TIVOed, so a dvr is critical. I know that the LG is not wi-fi, but it would be nice if either the dvr or cable box (?) would allow for this feature. We also do Netflix, if that makes a difference. All suggestions and advice entertained. I'd like to keep it all relatively simple, without sacrificing essential features (whatever they are!).
  15. Tim, can you post a photo of the speakers, and of the tags?

really? you guys go to Reno to watch the superbowl? We do! We've done it for at least the last 20 years. About 40 friends charter a bus, and we have a great time going up, there and coming back! We do several pools together, so the game is even more fun to watch. About 1/3 of us gather in our "leader's" suite for the game.

Oh hell, that one muffed kick-off return was not even a fumble! The ball barely grazed the guy's knee! He probably did not even realize that the ball did touch his knee! Yeah that was a weird one, but I was referring to the fumbled punt in over time that set up the winning field goal. That one was heartbreaking. But...Pitchers and catchers report next month!!
  18. That's the same as my link above. Marshall, how would you date these particular speakers? I'm stumped!
  19. Speakers on the floor, kids on the wall.
